    • Staying Alert During the Holiday Season to Avoid ScamsDuring the holiday season, be cautious of fake product sales and other scams, and take advantage of convenient solutions like Instacart and sales like Ashley's anniversary sale to save time and money.

During the holiday season, scammers often try to take advantage of people's emotions and distractions. While you may be focused on buying gifts, budgeting, and dealing with other holiday-related matters, scammers see this as an opportunity to prey on your vulnerabilities. For instance, during last year's holiday season, there were numerous instances of fake product sales, such as counterfeit AirPods being advertised online. Even though the prices weren't too far off from the genuine article, they were still a red flag. It's crucial to stay vigilant and pay close attention during this time of year to avoid falling victim to scams. Meanwhile, Instacart offers a convenient solution for those who want to save time and energy during the holiday season. By downloading the app and taking advantage of the free delivery offer on your first three orders, you can stock up on groceries without missing a minute of your favorite activities. Additionally, Ashley's anniversary sale provides an excellent opportunity to save on mattresses, with select brands and models available at discounted prices and financing options. Just be sure to read the fine print and double-check the details to ensure you're getting a genuine deal.

    • Buy gift cards from the source to avoid potential scamsBuying gift cards directly from the retailer reduces the risk of someone else using it and ensures the correct value for a hassle-free gifting experience during the holiday season.

During the holiday season, when people are looking for deals on gifts, they need to be cautious, especially when it comes to buying gift cards. While it might be more convenient to buy gift cards from displays in stores or online, there's a risk that these cards have already been scanned and activated by someone else. To avoid this, it's important to buy gift cards directly from the retailer behind the counter. This not only reduces the risk of someone else using the card before the intended recipient, but it also ensures that the card has the correct value and can be used as intended. The emotional and logistical struggle of dealing with a potentially invalid gift card can add unnecessary stress to the holiday season. So, make sure to take the extra step and buy gift cards from the source to ensure a hassle-free gifting experience.

    • Stay Safe from Gift Card Scams during HolidaysBuy gift cards directly from companies to avoid scams, be cautious of third-party sellers during holiday season

Scammers often target popular gift cards during the holiday season, making it essential for consumers to be vigilant. These scammers go to great lengths to create convincing counterfeit cards, often using widely available brands like Apple, Walmart, Target, Google, and others. To avoid falling victim to these scams, it's recommended to purchase gift cards directly from the companies themselves, either online or in-store. Be cautious of third-party sellers, especially those with unfamiliar names or websites. Remember, this season, work only with trusted companies to ensure the safety and validity of your gift card purchases.

    • Dealing directly with companies and maintaining good healthDirectly dealing with companies for better transactions and using structured plant-based nutrition for health enhancement are important.

For better business transactions, try to deal directly with companies as much as possible, whether it's purchasing gift cards at their physical stores or buying products from their websites. Another key takeaway is the importance of maintaining good health, as 74% of Americans are overweight, and Prolon's structured plant-based nutrition program can help enhance cellular rejuvenation. Lastly, if you're in the market for a new car, consider taking advantage of the Hyundai Getaway Sales Event, where you can find great deals on award-winning Hyundai models and enjoy peace of mind with America's best warranty and complimentary maintenance. Remember, these deals won't last, so act fast!

Why are accessible swimming lessons crucial for preventing drownings?

Why are accessible swimming lessons crucial for preventing drownings?

Knowing how to swim isn't just out of fun for the summer, it's also important to recognize that not everyone has always had the opportunity to learn to swim. This is why it is so important to recognize, in order to save lives around the water-- swimming lessons should be available for everyone.

"Only 46% of Black and 47% of Latine children had swimming lessons, compared to 72% of white children," according to a parent survey (Northwestern/Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children’s Hospital of Chicago). Studies show there is a generational influence, if the parent doesn't know how to swim, most likely, the child will not learn either.

To help break this cycle, the YMCA of Metropolitan Dallas is stepping in with the goal to eliminate childhood drowning (CDC says drowning is the leading cause of death for children ages 1-4). The Y partners with apartment complexes across the metroplex to offer free Safety Around Water lessons (SAW) to children who otherwise wouldn't have access. Last year, the SAW program served 5,834 swimmers!

On Ask the Expert, Jen Pewitt joined the KRLD Afternoon News. She is the Vice President of the YMCA Metropolitan Dallas.
