Join Carlette Patterson, Head Sports Life Coach® & CEO of Patterson Sports Ventures® and Caio De Souza, Sports Nutritionist and Health Coach to learn about the symptoms of dehydration, when athletes should drink water and the best tips for hydration.
    Winning Strategies:
    1. The symptoms of dehydration include dizziness, brain fog, exhaustion, and the best way to check your level of hydration is by observing your urine color.
    2. The correct amount of water depends on the person’s sweat rate plus environmental factors such as the weather and level of physical activity. The average amount of water per person should be around three liters per day.
    3. Drink 12-16 ounces of water in the morning to rehydrate your body after sleeping. Stop drinking water about two hours before bedtime so you can sleep through the night uninterrupted.

Are you up for the NUTRIT10N Challenge? What is one winning strategy you can implement in your life today?

    10 Talks CONVERSAT10N – Sports Nutrition 101: Macronutrients
Join Carlette Patterson, Head Sports Life Coach® & CEO of Patterson Sports Ventures® and Caio De Souza, Sports Nutritionist and Health Coach to learn about fueling for peak performance, why the timing of your nutrition matters, and how to build a balanced meal.

    Winning Strategies:
    1. Macronutrients – carbohydrates, fats, and proteins – are essential for maintaining levels of energy for peak performance and optimal recovery.
    2. Three to five hours before training athletes should eat large, well-balanced meals that include complex carbohydrates, healthy fats, and lean proteins. One hour before training or during training athletes should eat simple carbohydrates to maintain glycogen (energy reserve) levels in the body. Post-training an athlete should focus on eating or drinking 20-30 grams of protein.

10 Talks CONVERSAT10N – Nutritional Theories and Bio Individuality

10 Talks CONVERSAT10N – Nutritional Theories and Bio Individuality
Join Carlette Patterson, Head Sports Life Coach® & CEO of Patterson Sports Ventures® and Caio De Souza, Sports Nutritionist and Health Coach to learn about how to figure out what foods or diets work best for you, being conscious and aware of your body’s messages, and how to trust the nutrition process.

    Winning Strategies:
    1. Bio individuality is all about being able to tune into our bodies and recognize how they are trying to speak to us. Listen to those signs and Watch Your Film to ask yourself your stat on your meal (1-10, 10 being fabulous) and what Performance Barriers are getting in the way of being able to achieve peak performance. Learn what you could do differently from a dietary perspective to be able to feel like a 10 for the next time.
    2. Competitive Greatness is all about being competitively great for you rather than against others. The components of this tool are Truth, Faith, and Love. Truth; What is the truth about the foods you are eating and how they are making you feel? Faith: Trust the process; results will not happen overnight, but listening to your body will help guide you toward what’s right for you. Love: Are you incorporating self-love into your journey? Food = nourishment for your body.
    3. How long does it take for me to have faith in the process of changing my nutritional choices before I feel it in my body and see it in my performance? This might take a week or two; however, with trial and error, you will eventually find what works for you. Understanding what your body is telling you is a skill, which like anything else, must be practiced.

    10 Talks CONVERSAT10N – NUTRIT10N 4 Your Mind. Body. Life

    10 Talks CONVERSAT10N – NUTRIT10N 4 Your Mind. Body. Life
Join Carlette Patterson, Head Sports Life Coach® & CEO of Patterson Sports Ventures® and Caio De Souza, Sports Nutritionist and Health Coach to learn about supplements, nutrition for young athletes, the connection between food and mood, and if fasting is right for you.

    Winning Strategies:

    1. Take care of your gut. Gut health affects mood because 70% of the immune system is affected by the gut biome. When the bad bacteria in our gut takes over the good bacteria, called dysbiosis, it puts our body in constant distress and can send signals to our brain, negatively affecting our mood.
    2. An easy nutrition hack is to have a protein shake and simple carbohydrates directly after working out. For our muscles, the protein will rebuild and the carbohydrates will refuel.
    3. With young athletes, approach nutrition simply but effectively. Set them up for success in the long-run by teaching the importance of fueling and recovering with nutrition, starting by eating enough of the right macronutrients (carbohydrates, fats, and proteins).

    10 Talks CONVERSAT10N – INTRODUCT10N 2 NUTRIT10N

    10 Talks CONVERSAT10N – INTRODUCT10N 2 NUTRIT10N
Join Carlette Patterson, Head Sports Life Coach® & CEO of Patterson Sports Ventures® and Caio De Souza, Sports Nutritionist and Health Coach to hear about Caio’s journey with nutrition, common performance barriers, and ‘tuning in’ to your body’s needs.

    Winning Strategies:
    1. Use the 80:20 Rule: where 80% of your foods are whole foods such as lean proteins or leafy greens and 20% of your foods are foods that may “feed your soul” such as processed foods or sweet treats.
    2. The truth about nutrition is that there is not one specific diet or lifestyle change that will work for everyone to reach peak performance. Our bio-individuality means that tuning in to the body after meals is the best way to make an informed decision about the foods that feel best for you.
    3. Stay intentional throughout your NUTRIT10N journey by establishing clear goals and the steps to get there. A NUTRIT10N change is a lifestyle change and it will take patience during the process.

10 Talks CONVERSAT10N – Giving Hope 2 Single Parents and Children Raised by Single Parents

10 Talks CONVERSAT10N – Giving Hope 2 Single Parents and Children Raised by Single Parents
Join us for our new season of 10 Talks Podcast: The Power of HOPE - MY 10 HEART “HEAR10”. Carlette Patterson, Head Sports Life Coach® and Sanja Tomasevic & Audrey Valentina, Sports Life Coaches® will share their G.I.V.E.H.O.P.E. Project with the desired outcome of inspiring and introducing new thinking to the next single parent and children raised by single parents. We are honored to share with you the presentation and the Power of Audrey and Sanja’s stories.

    Winning Strategies:
    • Use the Power of a Support Team. Asking for help is a great sign of strength. It takes a village; find your village, be vulnerable, and lean on them in times of need.
    • Own Your Truth. The moment you own and honor your truth, you can begin investing all your energy toward creating a 10 Life for you, your family, or whoever else you surround yourself with. Everyone deserves a chance to heal from the pain they did not ask for, and it begins with truth.
    • “I will not be a statistic because now I make my own stats”. Embrace the mindset that you are in control of your own life and the present moment. Recognize the Power of Choice and remember that you are not a number; you are a human being. You and your life matter!

    10 Talks CONVERSAT10N – How 2 Get Help
Join Carlette Patterson, Head Sports Life Coach® & CEO of Patterson Sports Ventures® and Mark R. Allen, M.D., Peak Sports Psychiatry to hear words of wisdom when someone is asking for help, how parents can best support their children, and why we need the power of relationship.

    Wellbeing:
    • A shift in mindset is required for the athlete to reach out for help. However, if the athlete cannot recognize that they need help, then the Power of Team is required to check-in with the athlete.
    INFORMAT10N:
    • A parent’s role on their child’s support team is as a cheerleader, where they can foster independence but be available for more support if extra help is needed.
    NAVIGAT10N Through Change:
    • Therapy is dose-dependent and is recommended every week, similar to medication. Individuals getting help through therapy can recognize incremental gains and growth.

    10 Talks CONVERSAT10N - Concussions

    10 Talks CONVERSAT10N - Concussions
Join Carlette Patterson, Head Sports Life Coach® & CEO of Patterson Sports Ventures® and Mark R. Allen, M.D., Peak Sports Psychiatry for a conversation about the signs, symptoms and protocols for concussions, as well as the effect it can have on an athlete’s mental and physical health.

    Wellbeing:
    • It is necessary that all athletes and coaches are aware of the signs and symptoms of concussions. It is the coach’s responsibility to lower the risk level of head impact (like in football), but it is the athlete’s responsibility to recognize the serious nature of a concussion.
    INFORMAT10N:
    • A concussion is a head injury that jostles your brain and there are about 3.8 million concussions reported each year.
    NAVIGAT10N Through Change:
    • An athlete recovering from a concussion needs to take the six-step protocol seriously, and if multiple concussions occur, the athlete must weigh the benefit of ongoing participation versus a potential long-term brain injury from the concussions.

Join Carlette Patterson, Head Sports Life Coach® & CEO of Patterson Sports Ventures® and Mark R. Allen, M.D., Peak Sports Psychiatry for a conversation about the topic of confidence, the research behind it, and how to become more confident from a holistic perspective.
    Wellbeing:
    • Confidence is an inner belief about your own abilities and ability to achieve something, based on skill and preparation. Confidence is a key trait of all successful people, and coaches who give confidence to their players are more likely to be successful.
    INFORMAT10N:
    • Research on self-efficacy (confidence) identified four main areas where confidence is built: mastery experiences, vicarious learning, model behavior, and social persuasion.
    NAVIGAT10N Through Change:
    • Work with a coach who inspires confidence and intentional practice. Parents, although change is difficult, must allow the coach to do their job and help build confidence in their children by being their biggest supporter.

10 Talks CONVERSAT10N – Social Media and Wellbeing
Join Carlette Patterson, Head Sports Life Coach® & CEO of Patterson Sports Ventures® and Mark R. Allen, M.D., Peak Sports Psychiatry to hear about the mental health impact of NIL on college student-athletes, the science of long-term social media use, and how we can re-train our brains.

    Wellbeing:
    • Winning strategies to limit the impact that social media can have on our brains includes taking breaks or setting screen time limits, or “stat up” how you feel after using social media.
    INFORMAT10N:
    • MRI’s have shown that the more time on social media correlates with lower sensitivity to emotional stimuli. Social media is replacing genuine social interaction causing higher rates of isolation and depression.
    NAVIGAT10N Through Change:
    • Athletes on social media promoting their Name, Image, and Likeness who are feeling the pressure to perform in competition can focus on three areas: perspective, grounding, and the Power of Team.

Join Carlette Patterson, Head Sports Life Coach® & CEO of Patterson Sports Ventures® and Mark R. Allen, MD, Peak Sports Psychiatry to hear about the two types of fear, what is fear, and why do we have it?

    Wellbeing:
    • Failure is a natural part of life. Growth only comes when we challenge ourselves to fall forward with the intent of embracing failure rather than fearing it.
    INFORMAT10N:
    • Fear of failure is being afraid to level up, while fear of success is reaching the top and being worried about maintaining it.
    NAVIGAT10N Through Change:
    • Three winning strategies to address fear include: desensitization by gaining experience, decontextualization by getting perspective, and faith through trust.

    Wellbeing:
    • Perfectionism can be productive at times, but it becomes challenging to manage when rigidity and hyper-awareness leads to functional impairment. In sport, an athlete may struggle to leave their ‘practice mindset’ and enter Flow State during a game.
    INFORMAT10N:
    • Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD) and Obsessive Compulsive Personality Disorder (OCPD) differ in severity and characteristics and are often developed in athletes as a means of control.

    INFORMAT10N:
    • Athletes often develop an addiction as a coping mechanism during times of transition or retirement.
    • Substance abuse will most likely have a detrimental effect on an athlete’s career and overall well being.
    NAVIGAT10N Through Change:
    • Addressing substance abuse always starts with education and clear messaging to athletes that helps struggling athletes get to the root of their problem rather than starting by using drastically punitive action.
