The Loss Life: Katherine + Mim

The Loss Life: Katherine + Mim

Mim, Lenny & Bhai's mom, is back to catch up on what has happened since she came on Episode 18. Since then she has raised awareness about baby loss by cycling the length of New Zealand with her husband Roy, shot a film that she is submitting to all the major festivals, and started a training program for health care providers that will help improve the bereavement care of parents after their baby dies.

Mim & I talk all the time so you will hear some weird banter & a lot of laughing. Which is OK TO DO! Our grief vibe matches up and she has been a big part in getting through these last few months.

Listen to her insight on facing her grief head on, meeting other loss parents in the middle of no where, and how she hopes to help change the way healthcare workers treat bereaved parents.

Find her on IG at @lennyslegacy https://www.instagram.com/lennyslegacy/

And stay tuned for info on when the film will be out!

    Nathalie + A'Mya

    Nathalie + A'Mya

Nathalie is a mother of twins, one here on earth and to the other, A'mya who died just days after birth 11.5 years ago. Since then, Nathalie has parented both of them the best she can while learning about her own grief. She is a holistic counsellor and coach as well as a writer and published author of multiple grief resource books and the founder of the Grieving Parents Support Network.

This conversation is truly so healing. We cover what it's like to carry twins knowing one may not make it, what it's been like to parent one without her sister, and how she is a source of hope for those that she coaches by shining a light on what this life is about after loss.

    We discuss:

    • Grief as front & center at first
    • How it stays but it isn't as big as in the beginning
    • Healing is a process and not an end point. We don't ever say we're "healed"
    • How to not lose hope with the potential of losing hope
    • Survivors guilt with twins
    • Teaching her daughter about her sister & letting her find her own way of grieving
    • Understanding our grief
    • Being OK with always having just plan B, living life with grief
    • Relationships during and after loss
    • Who we are before will dictate how we handle loss
    • And so much more!!

The Loss Life: Katherine + Sarah

The Loss Life: Katherine + Sarah

I'm changing it up! This episode will not be centered around loss but more so about life after loss. Sarah from Episode 3 joins me to discuss what the Loss Life looks like! Things are different now, but that doesn't mean we still can't enjoy things, seek out fun, & laugh a lot. Sarah is the perfect example of this being 3 years out from losing her son.  Death of our babies alters us, we are a different breed, so Sarah and I discuss what that looks like moving forward in our losses.

Sarah and I are friends here in Atlanta, we run with a small Loss Mom group, we have cocktails, laughs, we even have the same OB, all while we bring our boys with us.

So if you want to know what life kinda could look like years after your loss, here's a not great portrayal but it's probably entertaining af.  LOL.

    What we talk about:

    • REALITY TV, it's our thing, we love it, who cares
    • Specifically Vanderpump Rules & the Scandoval!!!
    • How watching reality TV has helped in our coping & makes us feel comfortable after loss
    • Getting hooked to these story lines because it's something out of our reality.
    • Our emotional capacity to handle griefy things in movies & TV
    • Analyzing characters as we watch based on our traumas
    • Drinking and grief
    • Stillbirth and infant death now being written into story lines a lot more or are we just more aware?
    • Needing Loss Moms to run businesses around us so that we can go to them cuz they get it.
    • Serial killers or random death tragedies?
    • And so much more sh*t lol

    Rebekah + Faith + Asher

    Rebekah + Faith + Asher

Raised Jewish, Bekah is the mother of 3 children in Heaven & 3 earth-side. After discovering her first baby, Faith, had a life-limiting diagnosis at 20 weeks, she turned to God for the first time in her life and discovered a spiritual depth & connection that eventually led her to her Christian faith. Rebekah goes on to suffer a miscarriage as well as the death and stillbirth of her son Asher. She now shares openly about her journey in hopes to help others going through a difficult loss.  Her transparency on both the joy & the grief side are so appreciated and her perspective on loss, grief, God, hope & love are inspiring.

I think perception is everything in this space. And some of us do lose our faith whether briefly or permanently during our darkest times.  The truth is, some of us find our way back as we surrender to our pain and ask God for help. Here is a story of 3 losses. Something we don't hear often. But how she continues to move forward is something that I believe will benefit many people.

    Laura + Lainey Part 2

    Laura + Lainey Part 2

This is PART 2 of Episode 33 with Laura & Lainey Mae. In this second part, Laura tells us about the death of her baby at just 2 months old. She also dives into candidly what she thinks could have happened to Lainey and how asking questions surrounding the death of her baby has been challenging and down right scary.  Something seems off and as she starts to investigate what happened, she doesn't like what she is putting together.

She just didn't know what she knows now.  Why are we in this position after our babies die? Why does no one but us want answers? In her pursuit of finding out what happened to her daughter, Laura is also trying to establish a life & a future where she can not just survive this pain but LIVE despite of it.

This episode may be tough to listen to so please be aware. However, do not shy away from it because of fear or sadness. There are things that need to be heard and listened to.

    Laura + Lainey Part 1

    Laura + Lainey Part 1

In Part 1 of a 2 part Episode, Laura talks with me about precious Lainey Mae, who died at just 2 months old. Laura is a single, Christian mother who is very open about her story & how challenging this has been to do alone even with such an incredible family as her support system. She has been such a light and a source of laughter, hope, & goodness for me and I wanted her to share her entire story.

We all have such different stories but we all share so many commonalities when it comes to out living our babies. You will hear her message of beauty, faith, inspiration, as well as anger, rage, and regret.

    What we also talk about:

    • Dealing with high blood pressure that leads to emergency induction
    • Being pregnant with someone close to you
    • Looking back on the joyous moments is so painful
    • Did our babies know they would die?
    • Mediums

    Dr Harvey Kliman

    Dr Harvey Kliman

I talk with Dr Harvey Kliman about his research and medical opinion when it comes to the placenta, pregnancy loss/stillbirth, & reoccurring pregnancies. He is a research Scientist in the Department of Obstetrics, Gynecology, and Reproductive Sciences at the Yale University of Medicine and the Director of the Reproductive and Placental Research Unit with the following Research Interests: Pregnancy Complications and losses, Autistic Disorder, Endometrium, and Infertility.

Dr Kliman is the one who gave me some answers around Brody's death. He shed some light on what could have happened & how we prevent it from happening again. Without his placenta pathology report, I would still be going off of what my OB said, "he was perfect, this was freak, & it won't happen again." False.

    Here's what we discuss:

    • His background and how he got here
    • Developing the Estimated Placenta Volume measurements
    • Pushback from doctors
    • Causes of stillbirth
    • Causes of a small placenta
    • How to monitor if your placenta is small
    • How do approach doctors about EPV
    • C***d & the placenta
    • And so much more...

Important info from Dr Harvey Kliman:

    Pregnancy loss: Pregnancy Losses

Home page: Reproductive and Placental Research Unit

    Organization: Measure the Placenta

This is an episode for those who are curious about the placenta, who want to find answers, who also want to learn about other things outside of a small placenta, & to hear how we can prevent this from happening again in subsequent pregnancies.

    Katherine + Liz talk PAL

Liz is BACK (on her "comeback tour" she says LOL) to discuss pregnancy after loss! Last time she was with us for Episode #1, we discussed life after the death of her son Harrison.  Since then she has had her "rainbow baby", Abigail, and is here to discuss how hard PAL was for her.

At the time of this recording, I am 15 weeks pregnant so diving into this world of trying to have a living baby after full term death and stillbirth of your first child has been helpful for me.  Maybe it can help you! We are in this together, after all...

    We talk about:

*Trying to Conceive and how not glamorous it is

*Pregnancy after loss depression & anxiety

*"Gender disappointment" & how common it is for Loss Parents

    *SIDS & living in fear

*Being able to leave her baby easily now

*Statistics saying that we have great odds in our favor

*The mental and emotional challenges PAL brings

*Being treated like a "normal" parent and how it sucks

    *Infertility

    *Hormones after it

*What life would have been like if our babies didn't die

*And all things pregnancy loss, life after stillbirth, grief, & PAL...

    Sydney + Adam

My girl Sydney and I discuss her life after the death of her first son Adam on Valentine's Day 2021. Her story is open and very honest, personally what I dig most about her.  She talks about how much blame she has on her Doctors and, sadly, on herself & how she coped with that. We go into pregnancy after loss and what that was like giving birth to her rainbow baby.  She is super honest about gender disappointment and processing the opposite sex of her baby that died...And then we start talking about all the other kinds of stuff! Mediums, and spirit babies, and signs from our children, and all the cool stuff that comforts us. Check this one out and have an open mind and an open heart...

    Katie + Makenna

    Katie + Makenna

Katie and I talk about her beautiful daughter Makenna, who was born early and lived for 4 days in the NICU.  Katie discusses very openly her experiences with her birth and the days to follow.  She is feisty as hell, and I love how open she is about her grief and the ways she honors Makenna.

We talk a lot in this podcast.  Everything from the love for our babies, to poor treatment from doctors, to grief and even fake online Loss Moms (yes that's a thing)...

Words will never be enough to explain the love I have for my daughter. Makenna dying didn't stop me from being her mom and loving her just as any other parent would love their child. She is my light.

Katie created Rainbows for Makenna.  A non-profit that provides comfort boxes for parents suffering loss. You can shop here: https://www.rainbowsformakenna.com/

And find Katie on IG: https://www.instagram.com/rainbowsformakenna/

NOTE: These are MY thoughts, experiences and opinions.  By no means am I telling anyone what to do, what's right or wrong, or how to handle grief or trauma.  I am not a doctor or a therapist.  Im just a loss mom giving you a front row seat as to what I've experienced.

This is my real life, and I'm putting it out there so you feel less alone.

    Ally + Noelle

    Ally + Noelle

Ally learned of her daughter Noelle's life limiting diagnosis, Ebstein's Anomaly, during a follow up anatomy scan.  Ally discusses what it was like to live with hope & fear while navigating a pregnancy with so much unknown. Although she only lived 62 minutes on Earth, Noelle's memory lives on in her parent's lives and heart. Ally now uses her spare time to promote Noelle's legacy and advocate and spread awareness to neonatal death, and Congenital Heart Defect (CHD) Awareness.

Ally is a light in a very dark place & she chooses to tell her daughter's story to help others suffering the same situation.

    Sarah + Nathanial

    Sarah + Nathanial

Sarah talks with me about her first born son, Nathaniel, who she and her wife Amy conceived through IVF.  His precious life ended traumatically with severe early-onset preeclampsia, placental abruption, emergency C-section, a brief NICU stay and death within his mothers’ arms. Sarah took to grieving while trying to find out what happened, and planning for future pregnancy like a full-time job. In the midst of the uncertainty, she found resources that helped answer critical questions. In honor of her son, she created whenmybabydied.com which aims to offer families a centralized resource hub of information and answers for the question no parent ever thought they’d have to find. Sarah and Amy, in the midst of their grief, have entered into pregnancy after loss, as Sarah is now due with Nathanials sibling.  This comes with many more challenges that we discuss as well.

Here are some great resources that we discuss:

    ACOG research:

Sarah is such a light to speak with and I think so much of what she says will help...To find Sarah on IG: @whenmybabydied

    Katherine + Brody's Mimi

    Katherine + Brody's Mimi

In this special Christmas episode, I talk with my mom, Brody's Mimi, to hear her perspective on Brody, his death, his life, grief, life after loss and being the mother of a Loss Mom.  I will warn you, there are a lot of tears.  But my mom shares her experiences, her perspective, her spirituality, her faith, her broken heart and all the things that come with being a Loss Gramma.  She had tragedy strike as a kid when her dad died at an early age and just under 2 years ago, her own mother died. Her perspective from someone who has lived a lot of life and what life looks like for her now is incredible to listen to...

For those that wish to reach out to her and connect as a Loss Gramma, you can find her on Instagram @kycakra

I hope this helps for anyone that has someone to talk to that understands, and even for those who don't understand what this is like for everyone involved.

As always, please remember that this is MY experience, my life that I choose to share with you.  You might not resonate with all things that are said.  Nothing is meant to treat, diagnose, or offend anyone. Please use your own judgement about your own grief.

My wish is that this could help someone know that they aren't alone and potentially provide some insight you didn't know you needed.

    Merry Christmas to all
