Life will bring many challenges, death of a loved one, a breakup, a health diagnosis, a sudden change in your plans, a missed opportunity.

Mother Hunger: How Adult Daughters Can Understand and Heal from Lost Nurturance, Protection, and Guidance with Kelly McDaniel

Mother Hunger: How Adult Daughters Can Understand and Heal from Lost Nurturance, Protection, and Guidance with Kelly McDaniel

Mother loss comes in many forms: cancer, suicide, illness, murder, accidents. And while many women still have their mothers, they have lost them to abandonment, addiction, memory malfunction, mental illness and more.

Kelly McDaniel is an author and clinician supporting women on the journey toward relational wholeness.

In her first book, Ready to Heal, she addresses cultural double standards and family wounds that set women up for addictive relationship habits.

Her second book, Mother Hunger, is the culmination of 30 years of research, clinical expertise, and a deep understanding of mothering myths. Mother Hunger provides women a name for the misunderstood root of poor eating patterns, chronic relationship disappointment, and distorted self image.

In Mother Hunger what Kelly does is validate the experience of mother loss by giving a poignant name to a phenomenon that many will know very well and offer an elegant and useful framework for healing.

In short, this is a conversation about childhood attachment injuries and their lasting impact. Kelly destigmatized the shame that comes with being under-mothered and offers a healing path with powerful tools that include lifestyle changes and therapeutic interventions.

Judith Ruskay Rabinor, PhD, is a clinician, author, writing coach, speaker, and workshop leader retunrs to the podcast for the 4th time.

During her first interview we talked about her memoir The Girl in The Boots: Making Peace with My Mother. She specializes in eating disorders and the mother daughter relationship.

Today’s conversation is a wide ranging one. We focused on the transformative power of deep listening, as well as went into other interesting areas such as:

    • How we all have a need to be listened to, and healing happens once someone truly witnesses our experiences and chooses to listen to us deeply.
    • How we unconsciously repeat harmful patterns and what it takes to break those cycles
    • Why therapists care so much about the past
    • How we build resilience
    • And so much more

Judy says that deep listening is an act of generosity.

Who We Are and How We Heal with Nina Mongendre

Who We Are and How We Heal with Nina Mongendre

None of us came out of childhood unscathed.

Let’s face it, even the lucky ones among us didn’t get an ideal childhood.

Are you still looking for approval from your parents? Do you long for them to see and accept you for who you are? How do you see your parents today? Are you holding onto a fantasy?

Is there anything you need from them in order to live your life fully and authentically?

Deep, raw and very personal conversation with  kundalini yoga and meditation teacher Nina Mongondre. She is the author of the Inner Child & Beyond Oracle deck and is writing a book about inner child and ancestral healing. In her private practice, she offers shamanic healing, neuroEmotional coaching and inherited trauma work.

The central theme is the parent-adult child relationship and some key points we touched upon are:

    • How becoming a parent gives us new understanding and appreciation for our parents

    • How in order to accept, we need to grieve first

    • What healing in a relationship means to us

    • The acute and sudden awareness of an immense vulnerability after you lose your parents that those who still have their parents alive won’t understand

    • How our parents live in us even if we cut ties with them

    • And so much more.

(LIVE Podcast) Updating Your Relationship with Your Parents -Part 1 with Daniel Maté

(LIVE Podcast) Updating Your Relationship with Your Parents -Part 1 with Daniel Maté

We hosted our first post-pandemic LIVE event. It was also our first podcast event. We recorded the show in front of a live audience. The topic of the evening was the Complicated Parent-Adult Child Relationship.

My guest for the live podcast was Danniel Mate. He has appeared on the podcast before in episode 338: Healing Childhood Trauma in Adulthood.

He is an award-winning lyricist, musical theater composer, a mental chiropractor and podcaster.

With Dr. Gabor Maté, Daniel is the co-author of The Myth of Normal: Trauma, Illness, and Healing in a Toxic Culture. The father-son pair have collaborated on the Hello Again workshop since 2016, leading programs in Vancouver, Toronto & New York; a book version is currently in progress. Daniel also runs the world's only "mental chiropractic" service, Take A Walk With Daniel, and is the co-host of the podcast Let’s Get Lyrical with Carice and Daniel.

Living Well with Stress with Elissa Epel, PhD

Living Well with Stress with Elissa Epel, PhD

World-renowned psychologist and best selling author Elissa Epel on embracing stress and transforming it.

Stress is a part of life.

It’s ubiquitous. It is the ocean we swim in.

We can’t avoid it. But we can learn to live well with it.

Humans have a stress response for a reason. It prepares our mind and body for what we need to do in the moment and in the moments ahead. Even our negative thoughts can trigger our bodies stress response, so we rarely experience periods of ease and deep restoration.

Humans are exquisitely built to handle stress. In fact we need it.

And in the right dosage and frequency, it helps keep our cells young and vital.
