Episode 166: Recovering from Dieting and Disordered Eating

Episode 166: Recovering from Dieting and Disordered Eating

Ana Vucetic is here for the first of a two-part series to discuss Recovering from Dieting and Disordered Eating. Dieting is someone else telling you what, when and how much to eat. What if you don’t like it, or don’t digest it well, or don’t feel happy after eating it? It’s listening to someone else’s opinion and feeling in control, but it’s quite the opposite. We don’t know what we like or how it makes us feel since most diets are so restrictive. How do you sustain this? Binging, guilt and shame often follow once you reach the “maintenance” phase of most diets as our internal saboteurs want to rebel after all this restriction. How do we recover from this? Ana dives into this important topic in today’s podcast.

    Episode 165: Nourishment and Embodiment

    Episode 165: Nourishment and Embodiment

Esther Cohen, MS, RD joins us today to discuss Nourishment and Embodiment. How do we nourish ourselves with things other than food? We are consuming and digesting more than just food, but also our environment and our experiences. It’s so important to be more present and mindful of the moment we’re in so that we’re more nourished by it, whether it’s spending time with family or simply enjoying our food to it’s fullest. But we also need to have freedom from food so that we can make conscientious choices.

Esther Cohen has dedicated the past 35 years to learning everything related to embodied psychology, physiology and energetics of eating and healing disease in the body. After years of study in Touch for Health, 5 Element Acupressure, and Meditative Practices, she pursued a path to integrate western science and received a Master’s of Science in Human Nutrition from Colorado State University. Esther is also a Registered Dietician and Functional Nutritionist. Episode 164: Our Primitive Brain, Planning, and Rebellion

Episode 164: Our Primitive Brain, Planning, and Rebellion

Dr. Krystal Sodaitis is here to discuss Our Primitive Brain, Planning, and Rebellion. There seems to be so much resistance to planning, whether it be exercise, self-care, or simply reading a book. Planning is scientifically based. There are two main parts of our brain—the one that sets long term goals and the one that protects us. These two parts of our brains are frequently at odds when it comes to planning and goals around food. (For example, our primitive brain wants us to eat more frequently while the pre-frontal cortex brain says it’s okay to do some intermittent fasting.) How do we train ourselves to listen to the side of our brains that are in line with our long-term goals? Krystal will help raise our awareness regarding this topic and discuss ways to make this happen.

Dr Sodaitis is a board-certified pediatrician, wife, mother, life and weight coach (certified through The Life Coach School), healthcare executive, lifelong learner and yo-yo dieter in recovery. She transitioned from academic medicine to working for a health insurance company in 2013. She has held both clinical and nonclinical leadership positions and can relate to the different lifestyle challenges working from home versus working at a hospital or clinic setting can bring. Episode 163: Manifesting Your "Second Act"

Episode 163: Manifesting Your "Second Act"

Jamie Sabat is here to discuss Manifesting Your "Second Act." Manifestation is the 3D world that we create around us based on our mindset. Jamie uses the language of the mind as one of the tools for manifestation, for example, to reframe the story of what’s going on in your life. Your subconscious mind was created from the ages of 0-7, so this method helps you to release negative feelings from that age range which impact your life today. Why should we consider doing this in our daily lives? Jamie will explain how to get to the life we want by using manifestation.

Jamie Sabat is the Founder of Distill + Express, a health and wellness consultancy specializing in natural solutions. With over 15 years of experience in the trend forecasting industry, Jamie is a thought-leader and early identifier of long-range trends in the wellness space. As a Wellprenuer, Jamie provides the opportunity and gameplan, empowering women to live a life of abundance in health, wealth, love, and happiness. Episode 162: Food as Medicine

Dr. Colin Zhu joins us to discuss Food as Medicine. We know that there is very little nutritional training as part of most medical schools, so Dr. Zhu got curious and trained as a chef and a health coach at the Natural Gourmet Institute for Health & Culinary Arts and the Institute for Integrative Nutrition. He tells us that the concept of culinary medicine “is blending the art of food with the science of nutrition.” How do we apply this theory? Why is it important? How does it affect human health? Episode 161: Tricky Situation - Alcohol and Women

Episode 161: Tricky Situation - Alcohol and Women

Ann Dowsett Johnston joins us today to discuss a Tricky Situation - Alcohol and Women. Why is this a female-specific issue? It turns out that women drink because of stress much more than men do, and now alcoholic beverages have become marketed specifically to women. There is no real health link between alcohol and our hearts, and in fact there is a link between alcohol and cancer. So, why are we drinking so much? It’s OKAY to look at this question of WHY. Instead of “I deserve this,” ask the question “what is it costing me?” Ann will explain these concepts and so much more in this podcast.

Ann Dowsett Johnston is the bestselling author of Drink: The Intimate Relationship Between Women and Alcohol, named one of the top 10 books of 2013 by the Washington Post.
