    Mr Lexx full interview

    Mr Lexx full interview

A former student at Kingston's (now defunct) Fox Drama School, Mr. Lexx is an actor who has appeared in several plays and earned a Best Actor award in 1992. Mr. Lexx also joined the popular dance troupe Squad One but for the past seven years he has pursued a career as a deejay whose stage performances are enhanced by his experience in dance and theater.[3]

Mr. Lexx first displayed his deejaying skills in 1992 at the popular Sunday night dances held in Kingston's Harbor View area, featuring the Super Dee sound system. Representatives from The New York-based label Natural Bridge Records heard Lexx's impressive lyrical flow and brought him to Kingston's Mixing Lab recording studios where the 16-year-old recorded his first single, "Own A Home", his tribute to women who aren’t dependent on men for financial support. Subsequent single releases including "Unification" and "Ghetto Man Slam" yielded little fanfare for the aspiring deejay but he persevered and in 1997 his efforts were rewarded with three hit singles, "Runaway Train" (X-Rated label), "Fade Away" (2-Hard Records) and "Boogie Woogie" for producers Steely & Clevie.

Lexx's popularity lagged in Jamaica due to the time he spent abroad so he returned home in 1998 and reestablished himself through a series of stage shows, utilizing is acting and dancing capabilities to support his microphone skills at Kingston's largest annual dancehall concert, Sting in December 1998 and the event marked a turning point in Mr. Lexx's career. Many of the unknown songs Mr. Lexx performed at Sting became Jamaican radio hits while his performance in August 1999 during Montego Bay's Reggae Sumfest Dancehall Night has amplified the Mr. Lexx buzz to a near deafening decibel! Attired in an outrageous leather outfit, Mr. Lexx energetically delivered a hit filled set which included his first #1 single "Get Wid It", produced by King Jammy, "Yu Nah", another #1 and his current smash "Cook" which humorously urges women to brush up on their culinary skills to keep their men happy; both tracks were produced by Steely and Clevie.

Patrick valued Paul’s opinion and as such sidelined the popularity garnered from the tape. After struggling with his musical identity for the next seven years , it was Patrick’s son’s mother, who in 2003, suggested that he record another Stir it up volume as this was who he Truly was . Heeding her advice Patrick came up with volume 4 “The Crucifixion of the Ghetto”. This was a blend of humor and social awareness that employed a balance of hardcore street smarts and undiluted intellect by collaborating the imitation of a foul mouthed Mutabaruka and a modified version of Ian Boyne; these two voices would represent both sides of the social divide. Patrick would again ask Paul to play famous Demus and join him as a duo he would call Twin of Twins. Though Patrick is the writer of the two ,his brother’s input and opinion is vital to his creative process as paul would overtime grow more comfortable with this art.

    Tony Curtis

    Tony Curtis

From that moment in 1991 when he won a talent show in Ohio Rios, Jamaica he had the amazing ability to convey the message in a song in such a way, he captures the attention of the listener. His sentimental tone, immaculate clarity and forward projection, perfectly smooth phrasing over any rhythm is indicative that he is evolving into one of the genres brightest star.

Tony Curtis' exceptional remake of the Burt Bacharach classic "Raindrops Keep Falling on My Head" entitled "HIGH GRADE" from album "Stronger" served as the reggae anthem of 2002. This single was self produced and gave the world a first time glance of Tony Curtis' productions skills. These skills were clearly far from novice as the single blazed through airwaves and compilation CDs such as VP Records, Strictly the Best Volume 30 internationally.

Three years later Tony returned with A brand new album entitled, Ready for the World produced by Michael Jahmikes Coburn for Reggae Vibes Productions Inc and distributed by VP RECORDS May 2005. This time, Tony unleashes his vocal prowess and writing skills, artistically defining the concept of love as the sole aberration to war. From the 1st track to the last, its transparent that the artiste is indeed ready.

As is customary, this album is flavored with Curtis traditional specialty for the ladies. Feelings, I Want You More, All The Way and Angel are romantic ballads that will definitely be in rotation on every ladies playlist. Other tracks such as Determined, Know My Style and Follow Me featuring Johnny Osbourne reflect the spiritual side. The relevance of peace and love, brotherhood, hope, perseverance is profoundly expressed and peaks on track ..3, entitled Lets Live. This song not only illustrates his conviction and commitment to peace but is also a universal cry for unity.

In 2011 he teamed up with French producer @GreenYard Records and released "FIGHT IT" EP; a 5 Track album and fusion of modern roots and neoclassical dancehall featuring dancehall icons, Cutty Ranks and Burro Banton. The title track is Tony Curtis' uplifting answer to the shitstem's crisis-driven rhetoric or recession that seems to be surrounding us everywhere these days and the video had cameo appearances from artiste Little Hero and the legendary Don One of Don-1 Sound Records/Studio in Brooklyn. Critics are saying, this EP is a great opportunity to discover one of the most underrated artists of our times.

TONY CURTIS IS ALSO A MEMBER OF REGGAE QUARTET L.U.S.T (LUKIE-D, THRILLER-U, SINGING MELODY & TONY) whose rendition of AIR SUPPLY SONG "JUST AS I AM" WON THE 2008 REGGAE SONG OF THE YEAR AT THE EXCELLENCE IN MUSIC AND ENTERTAINMENT AWARDS; (EME) is the brainchild of radio disc jock Richie B!
