A Prayerful Approach to the Holidays with Janet McHenry

A Prayerful Approach to the Holidays with Janet McHenry

How can we have a prayerful approach to the holidays?

Welcome to another episode of Flourish-Meant, where we delve into topics that help us embrace a more prayerful approach to life. I'm your host, Tina Yeager, and today we have a special guest, Janet McHenry, who will guide us in developing a prayerful approach to the holidays.

Janet is an experienced prayer warrior and the author of the book Praying Personalities, which explores different prayer styles and helps readers find their own natural prayer personality.

As we navigate the holiday season, it's important to approach it prayerfully rather than with worries and concerns. Janet will share wisdom on how to customize our holidays and accommodate each other's differences in prayer. Join us as we discover how a prayerful approach can bring glory to Jesus and truly flourish our family lives, even in the midst of challenges. Welcome back, Janet!

Janet McHenry is a prayer enthusiast who believes that each person has a unique way of communicating with God. Through her studies of prayer in the Bible, she discovered that praying people approached God differently based on their personalities. For example, she observed how Moses engaged in a cerebral conversation with God, trying to reason with him about his call to lead the people of Israel. This resonated with Janet, as she prefers approaching prayer with rationality and understanding, grounding her faith in God's word. However, she also recognizes that others may have a more emotive approach, being emotionally charged during their prayer experiences.

Janet uses her knowledge and understanding of prayer to encourage individuals to embrace their own unique style of communicating with God.

    In this episode, we discussed:

    • The importance of approaching the holidays prayerfully rather than with worry and stress.
    • How different personalities approach prayer and how to accommodate each other's differences during the holidays.
    • Practical suggestions and strategies for developing a customized, prayerful approach to the holidays.

    📚 Key Takeaways:

1️⃣ Approach the holidays prayerfully: Instead of making worry-filled lists, give your concerns to God through prayer. Consider writing them down and symbolically placing them in a Christmas stocking or a "Jesus jar," and see how God works in your life during the holiday season.

2️⃣ Embrace your unique prayer personality: Recognize that everyone has their own natural prayer style. Whether you're more intellectually oriented like Moses, emotive like Hannah, or physically inclined like those who fasted in the Bible, find ways to incorporate prayer that align with your natural tendencies.

3️⃣ Be thankful for differences: Appreciate and embrace the diverse prayer styles of those around you. Rather than comparing or feeling pressured to pray a certain way, express gratitude for the beauty of each person's individuality and seek to learn from one another.

When Holidays Trigger Trauma with Dr. Barbara Lowe

When Holidays Trigger Trauma with Dr. Barbara Lowe

As the holiday season approaches, we wanted to address a topic that is important yet often overlooked – how holidays can trigger trauma reactions. In our latest episode of Flourish-Meant, host Tina Yeager sits down with expert guest Dr. Barbara Lowe to explore this crucial issue.

Dr. Barbara Lowe, a licensed psychologist and founder of Greenleaf psychological and support services, sheds light on why trauma is something we should be aware of during the holiday season. She explains how being around our families can bring up unmet needs and traumas, reminding us of the brokenness of this world.

Even in the best of circumstances, we all carry some form of trauma due to the fallen nature of our world and the unseen enemy that seeks to disrupt our lives.

During the episode, Dr. Barbara Lowe shares powerful insights into the impact of triggers during holidays. She discusses different scenarios, such as encountering familiar scents, tastes, or music that transport us back to past experiences.

Additionally, being around certain family members or revisiting places of suffering and trauma can bring up intense emotions. Dr. Barbara Lowe provides practical advice on how to navigate these triggers effectively.

Tina and Dr. Barbara Lowe emphasize the importance of seeking the Lord during these challenging moments. Turning towards Him provides a safe attachment and a source of strength. Additionally, they discuss the concept of self-parenting or developing self-momming skills, where we offer ourselves the love, acceptance, and support we may have lacked in our past.

Dr. Barbara Lowe introduces her book, "Healing Encounters with Jesus in Psychology," which offers a comprehensive guide to healing trauma and satisfying unmet needs. Connect with Dr. Barbara at drbarbaraministries.org.

Purpose in Uncertainty with Grace Wabuke Klein

Purpose in Uncertainty with Grace Wabuke Klein

How can we find purpose in seasons of uncertainty? Today's exciting new episode offers encouragement and insights for navigating uncertain seasons with grace and purpose from featured guest Grace Wabuke Klein, a speaker, author, and co-leader of Focus 412 ministry.

Grace recently released a powerful book titled "Flourish: Finding Purpose in the Unknown and Unexpected Seasons of Life."

During our conversation with Grace, she shared her personal journey of finding purpose and meaning amidst seasons of uncertainty and struggle. She spoke about her experience of growing up in a Christian home in Uganda during the tumultuous time of Ediamin's dictatorship. Grace's parents relied on prayer for protection as they made the difficult decision to leave Uganda, seeking a safer future for their family. Upon arriving in the United States, Grace and her family faced racism and discrimination, including being asked to leave a church because of their race. Despite these hardships, Grace's parents modeled forgiveness and unwavering faith, teaching her valuable lessons about resilience and the power of prayer.

Grace delves into the concept of "winter seasons" - those times in our lives when we face isolation, uncertainty, and waiting. She shares how, during these periods, it is essential to stay grounded in our faith through prayer, reading the Word, and actively participating in a faith community.

Grace offers practical tips and insights on how to endure these seasons and grow deeper in our relationship with God. Furthermore, she highlights the importance of knowing our identity in Christ and finding our worth in Him rather than seeking validation from others.

Grace encourages us to stand strong in our faith, even when facing opposition or questioning the purpose of our waiting.

In our conversation with Grace, we explore the idea of "03:00 a.m. Friends" - those trusted individuals who stand by us during the darkest and most difficult moments. We discuss how cultivating these deep connections and being a reliable support system for others can bring strength and purpose to our own lives.

We hope that this episode inspires and provides actionable insights for your own journey of purpose amidst uncertainty. Remember that even in the midst of the unknown, you can trust God's guidance and goodness.

1️⃣ Support our veterans: It's crucial to go beyond simply saying "thank you" and find meaningful ways to support our veterans. Whether it's through contributions to veteran organizations or advocating for better services, let's show our gratitude by actively making a difference.

2️⃣ Educate and empower: Start at a young age by providing educational opportunities that focus on leadership and history. By creating programs, awards, and scholarships, we can help shape the future generation with bravery, character, and a sense of duty.

3️⃣ Recognize and address mental health: The alarming suicide rate among veterans and active duty personnel demands our attention. It's vital to be proactive in identifying potential signs of distress and providing resources for professional assistance. By offering support and directing individuals to organizations such as the Wounded Warrior Project, we can make a difference in their lives.

🙌 Let's join hands in giving our veterans the recognition and support they deserve. Together, we can foster a society that values bravery, character, and strong leadership.

Encounter Yahweh Nissi with Benny DiChiara

Encounter Yahweh Nissi with Benny DiChiara

How can we encounter Yahweh Nissi and experience God as the banner over our lives? Join today's multi-talented celebrity guest, Benny DiChiara for an empowering episode of Flourish-Meant, where we explore faith, resilience, and encountering the presence of God in our lives.

In this episode, our host Tina Yeager invites Benny DiChiara, singer-songwriter, recording artist, businessman, motivational speaker, and father, to share his extraordinary message and personal journey of healing and purpose.

Benny's story is one of remarkable recovery. After experiencing a traumatic brain injury that could have ended his career and life, Benny found himself in a period of recovery, sleeping for 20 hours a day and struggling to speak correctly. During this challenging time, Benny relied on prayer and sought God's guidance. In the midst of his journey, Benny encountered Yahweh Nissi, the powerful and victorious name of God. In the second month of his recovery, Benny heard God's voice speaking to him, inspiring him to create an album called "Three Days."

Now, through his newest album, Yahweh Nissi, Benny beautifully conveys messages reminding us that our purpose in life is not based on our own preconceived notions, but on serving God's divine plan.

During the episode, Benny and Tina delve into the significance of Jesus' suffering, his ultimate sacrifice on the cross, and the promise of his resurrection. They discuss how connecting with the truth of Jesus' victory brings strength and helps us overcome pain, sorrow, and confusion.

Benny opens up about his personal journey, the impact of his father's passing, and finding comfort in the assurance of seeing loved ones again in heaven. His experiences have led him to deeply understand the importance of knowing our true identity in Christ and discovering God-given gifts and talents.

Moreover, Benny shares insights into his current song "Yahweh Nissi," which serves as a battle cry for Christians to speak out against evil and to fight against anti-biblical ideologies. This powerful anthem embodies a call to unity and an unwavering trust in God's deliverance.

Throughout the episode, Benny emphasizes the importance of focusing on God and not being distracted by worldly thoughts. He encourages listeners to trust in God's provision and to fully embrace and utilize the unique purpose and talents God has blessed them with.

Additionally, Benny discusses his close connection with Children's Cup, a ministry founded by Brother Dave Olerking that supports needy children in Africa and other nations around the world. Benny's passion for helping others led him to dedicate a portion of his merchandise sales to this incredible cause, exemplifying his commitment to making a difference in the world.

God Adores You with Elizabeth Bristol

God Adores You with Elizabeth Bristol

Welcome to another episode of Flourish-Meant! Today, we have a very special guest, Elizabeth Bristol, joining us to discuss a topic close to our hearts: "God Adores You."

Elizabeth is an author, educator, and speaker who has overcome people-pleasing, abuse, and neglect through Christ-centered care. She knows firsthand the struggle of seeking love and feeling loved, especially when her own upbringing did not provide that foundation. But Elizabeth discovered that God's love is unconditional and transformative when she allowed Him into her life. Now, she's on a mission to help others understand and experience this incredible love that God has for each one of us.

Tune in as Elizabeth and our host, Tina Yeager, dive deep into the topic of God's adoration and how it can transform our lives. Let's embrace the power of God's love together on this episode of Flourish-Meant!

    🔑 Key Takeaways:

1️⃣ Knowing God's love transforms our lives: When we truly grasp God's unconditional love for us, it changes everything. We become more receptive to His guidance, wisdom, and direction for our lives.

2️⃣ Even in our pain, God can bring purpose: No matter what hardships we've endured, God has the incredible ability to take our brokenness and work it together for our good. His miracles in our lives surpass our wildest imagination.

3️⃣ God's love is evident in diverse ways: I asked different friends how they know God loves them, and their answers were profound. From fulfilling the deepest longings of our hearts to providing exactly what we need (not just what we want) and sustaining us through challenging circumstances, God's love shines through the darkness.
