Welcome back to another episode of Flourish-Meant! In today's episode, we have a very special guest, Nellie Harden, joining our host Tina Yeager to discuss a topic that is close to every parent's heart: How do we raise confident kids in a changing and unpredictable world?

Nellie, a renowned family life and leadership coach, draws from her own experiences as a mother of four teenage daughters and shares valuable insights on instilling values, fostering self-esteem, and navigating the challenges of the second half of childhood. As a former homeschool parent with a background in biology and psychology, Nellie brings a unique perspective on raising children to become fully functional and independent young adults. Join us as we delve into the importance of vulnerability, open communication, and establishing a strong foundation for our children's success in life. Get ready to gain valuable tips and strategies from Nellie Harden on how to raise confident kids in an ever-changing world. Let's dive in!

We discuss the challenges parents face in instilling values, appreciation, and confidence in their children, especially during the crucial second half of childhood when they are preparing to become fully functional young adults.

Here are 3 key takeaways from the episode:

1️⃣ Establish and reassess family values regularly: Nellie highlights the importance of establishing and regularly reassessing family values to ensure they align with current circumstances and are meaningful to the family. By refreshing these values regularly, parents can guide their children towards success and instill a strong sense of identity and purpose.

2️⃣ Cultivate vulnerability and open communication: Nellie emphasizes the power of vulnerability within the family unit. By creating an environment where everyone feels seen, heard, and loved, parents can build trust and help their children navigate the challenges of our rapidly changing world. Open and vulnerable discussions without interruption or sarcasm allow for genuine connection and growth.

3️⃣ Build self-worth and confidence: Developing a strong sense of self-worth and self-esteem in children is crucial for raising confident kids. Nellie shares practical strategies, such as the Holt system, which helps teens discover their values and make decisions aligned with their desired identity. By acknowledging and supporting their children's worth and confidence, parents can set them up for success in life.

Healthy Relationships Amid Sexpectations with Barb Winters

Healthy Relationships Amid Sexpectations with Barb Winters

How can we help our kids cultivate healthy relationships amid a culture of sexpectations?

In this episode, Barb Winters shares her personal journey as a mother of a recovered pornography addict and how it led her to become a certified sexual risk avoidance specialist.

Barb Winters is the author of Sexpectations: Helping the Next Generation Navigate Healthy Relationships She is a speaker, certified Sexual Risk Avoidance Specialist, and founder of Hopeful Mom: supporting parents in an online world, where she offers encouragement and practical advice to parents and leaders.

Barb, a pastor's wife and former homeschool mom, experienced the shock and devastation of finding pornography in her home. Overwhelmed by guilt and feelings of isolation, Barb kept this secret from her family and only confided in one person, who lived miles away due to the stigma surrounding the issue.

As she embarked on a challenging journey to help her son and herself, Barb conducted extensive research and discovered the alarming prevalence of pornography in households today. This realization led her to question why parents weren't discussing these issues with each other and with their children.

Motivated by a strong conviction, Barb decided to create a platform called Hopeful Mom, where she could openly address and engage in conversations about pornography, social media dangers, human trafficking, and other related topics. This spark of inspiration marked the beginning of Barb's mission to empower parents and provide support in navigating these sensitive subjects.

She opens up about the initial shock, anger, and guilt she experienced when discovering pornography in her own home, highlighting the isolation and stigma that often surround these issues. Barb's determination to help not only her son but also other families sparked the creation of "Hopeful Mom," where she offers practical advice and encouragement to parents navigating the challenges of an online world.

Tina and Barb also discuss the prevalence of pornography and other related issues in our society, shedding light on some staggering statistics.

They address the common misconception that only certain individuals or families are affected by these problems and emphasize the importance of breaking the silence and bringing these issues into the light.

The conversation guides us towards creating safe spaces for discussions without judgment or condemnation. Barb encourages us all to step out of our comfort zones, relying on the Holy Spirit's guidance, to initiate these necessary conversations. She shares valuable insights on how parents can approach their children, as well as how we can cultivate healthy relationships within our families and spousal relationships by fostering open communication based on love and support.

Prayer to Conquer Fear and Despair with Richard Gamble

Prayer to Conquer Fear and Despair with Richard Gamble

On this episode of Flourish-Meant, Tina Yeager welcomes guest Richard Gamble, the visionary behind the Eternal Wall of Answered Prayer, a monumental piece of public art revealing how Jesus has answered a million personal prayers. It will be the largest database of hope stories in the world.

Having the idea in 2004, God gave him the go-ahead to launch in 2016, and for the past four years, Richard has shared the incredible concept all around the UK, rallying people behind the belief that one individual’s answered prayer can be another person’s hope. After becoming a Christian in 1990 Richard studied at bible college and then worked for British Gas before leaving the big corporate world to make his mark in entrepreneurship, co-founding both a software business and a marketing consultancy. With a keen love of football, he became CEO of Sports Chaplaincy UK, and was former chaplain of Leicester City Football Club (before they were famous and won the Premiership!).

Richard shares his personal practice of overcoming fear and despair by visualizing a storm of worries on his left and Jesus on his right. He encourages listeners to donate to eternalwall.us, a website where people can share their stories of answered prayers. Richard believes that these stories, written, audio, or video, will inspire future generations.

He reminds listeners to place their hope in God, recounting experiences where God has provided and healed. Richard also discusses the importance of physical reminders of God's faithfulness, using personal stories and examples from the Bible.

Through personal anecdotes and scripture, Richard and Tina emphasize the power of faith and hope in overcoming challenges and finding healing.

Richard defines Psalm 77 as a life hack for dealing with fear and despair. He candidly shared his own experience of waking up in the middle of the night and battling fear. To calm these fears, Richard personally practices a visualization technique where he envisions the storm of worries on his left and Jesus on his right. Recalling past instances where God has provided and healed has been instrumental in finding peace during these moments.

Moreover, Richard emphasized the importance of hope and where we choose to place it. Coping with fear involves seeking peace from Jesus and anchoring ourselves in the things God has said to us.

Throughout the episode, Richard shared incredible stories of answered prayers that have built his faith and helped him combat fear. Inspired by the concept of passing down and telling these stories to future generations, Richard conveyed his vision for the eternal wall of answered prayer. This monumental piece of public art, the size of a football field, will comprise a million bricks, each representing a story of hope related to Jesus. Visitors will be able to scan any of the bricks with their phones and learn about the inspiring stories inscribed upon them. The underlying goal is to offer hope to those who drive past the monument and inspire them to seek God.

Intrigued by Richard's journey and his inspiring project, the eternal wall of answered prayer, we invite you to learn more about it by visiting the website eternalwall.us. You can be part of something that will last for 100 years and impact future generations. Share your own stories on the website, whether through written, audio, or video formats.

Richard's story of battling an incurable disease in his spine for over 22 years, only to experience healing, reminds us that God is still listening and can do anything. Let us choose to focus on God's truth rather than facts, for there are over 100 scriptures encouraging us to proclaim the goodness of God in our lives. We are grateful to have had Richard Gamble on the show, revealing his journey, insight, and passion for inspiring hope through shared stories of answered prayers.

We hope that you, our Flourish-Meant community, can take five minutes of your time to impact future generations and join us in spreading hope through the eternal wall project.

Quote: "I wanted to share some of the ever-changing things in my world with him."
    — Cally Logan [00:01:12 → 00:02:15]
Trusting God's Timing: "I trust God more, and I know he's not forgotten. I know this isn't a no, it's just a not yet. And when he does bring those things forward, it's going to be all the more marvelous."
    — Cally Logan [00:04:21 → 00:06:32]
The Power of Surrender: "We have to let him have his way. We can't call the shots. We have to just take that next step of obedience and whatever that looks like."
    — Cally Logan [00:08:13 → 00:09:39]
The Dangers of Making Marriage an Idol: "I had kinda made getting married almost an idol...I was putting his promise as an idol between God and me...I have made it an idol, and I don't want to do that anymore."
    — Cally Logan [00:10:07 → 00:11:47]
"Wait well" means being intentional with our time and investing it wisely. This includes writing letters to future spouses or children, documenting our growth and lessons learned. It also means being discerning with our relationships, and surrounding ourselves with godly and encouraging individuals. Investing in church, family, career, and seeing our current circumstances as a mission field are all ways to wait well.
    — Cally Logan [00:13:25 → 00:15:19]
Practicing Listening and Using Your Gifts: "I think there really needs to be time and focused on just listening and allowing him to speak to us. And perhaps putting an idea or spark of an idea that's something that we wouldn't have even guessed for ourselves and then seeking that out, searching that out and seeing that maybe he does have a specific thing to say about it."
    — Cally Logan [00:16:34 → 00:18:50]
Prayerful Preparation for a Future Spouse: "I think one of the biggest things I realized is that's open this to inviting me to be a little more vulnerable. but also to be prayerfully minded to really train for my future spouse."
    — Cally Logan [00:19:57 → 00:22:33]
Healthy Communication in Relationships: "What are ways we could have good, healthy communication to come towards compromise so that no one feels that they got the short end of the stick, But instead, they feel like, you know, I felt really heard. And I felt really known, and I felt like my opinion mattered, and we came to this new tradition of the payment to this this new understanding or this great, healthy communication to find a solution without they're having to be an argument or upset or anything else."
    — Cally Logan [00:23:04 → 00:24:28]
The Gift of Time: "I think I would just really wanna encourage listeners that the time no time is wasted by God. And even if you feel like you're behind while your friends are married and they're having kids and things like that, it doesn't mean that you somehow woke up too late for the school bus, and you missed it."
    — Cally Logan [00:25:22 → 00:27:28]
The Desire of Young Men: "I think young men have this desire in their heart...they wanna share their lives with somebody."

Secret to Joy in Relationships with Becky Harling

On this episode of Flourish-Meant, host Tina Yeager invites Becky Harling to discuss the secret to joy in relationships. The episode covers a variety of topics such as the importance of managing expectations, the necessity of being humble in relationships, the significance of the Holy Spirit's intervention, and building personal relationships in today's society. Becky also talks about her new book, Rooted Joy, and the girlfriend gatherings she is starting. Additionally, the episode includes tips on how to listen actively and making others feel heard. Tune in to learn more about the science and theology of being a good listener, nurturing relationships, and seeking joy.

Becky Harling is a relationship expert who understands the importance of leaning on the Holy Spirit to navigate messy relationships. She believes that we were designed for community and intimacy with both God and others, and that relationships are the key to a joyful life. With loneliness on the rise, Becky's insights into building strong, healthy relationships have never been more relevant. Whether you're struggling with a difficult friendship, a challenging marriage, or simply feeling isolated, Becky's guidance will help you show up as your best self and deepen your connection with the people around you.

    Topics covered in this episode:

    1. Importance of Sharing Opinions
    - Not everyone needs to share their opinion on everything. We've bought into the lie that we do.
    - There are times when it's better not to share our opinion because it won't help our relationship with someone we love.
    - Jesus spent time with people who were very different from him and probably didn't agree with him on everything (e.g., the woman caught in adultery, tax collectors, prostitutes).
    - Despite the differences, Jesus loved them.
    - The unity of the body of Christ was on Jesus' heart before he went to the cross.

    2. Building Relationships
    - The best way to stay connected with Becky Harling is through her website, where she offers free resources and a weekly devotional blog.
    - She can also be found on Instagram, Facebook, and Twitter.
    - Her new book, Rooted Joy, is the first in a series of girlfriend gatherings aimed at providing more intimate settings for women to connect and grow together in faith.

    3. Managing Expectations in Relationships
    - Speaker emphasizes the importance of managing expectations in relationships
    - Jesus is the only one who can completely fill our deepest emotional needs
    - Speaker suggests holding self-management meetings and understanding why we may feel disappointed in a relationship to avoid placing unfair expectations on others
    - Loving someone means giving them freedom and not constantly relying on them to fill our needs as only Jesus can do that

    4. Changing the Narrative in Relationships
    - The speaker suggests changing the narrative in your head to improve how you show up in relationships.
    - Changing the narrative involves abandoning lies and claiming God's truth.
    - Initiating contact with others is important - reach out to neighbors or church community.
    - Being a good conversationalist is easy - just learn how to ask questions and keep the focus on the other person.

    5. Building Deep Relationships Through Humility
    - The speaker talks about a book called "Rooted Joy" which is based on the book of Philippians in the Bible.
    - The book talks about humility and how it's important to show up humbly in relationships.
    - Harvard conducted a study on happy people and found that those who show up humble in their relationships are the happiest.
    - God designed us to find deep joy by living humbly with one another in deeply connected lives.
    - Science is now proving what God has said all along.
    - The ability to understand and connect with others on a deeper level requires the presence of Holy Spirit.
    - Believers can ask the Holy Spirit to help them focus on the other person and understand their heart.

    6. Conflict Resolution in Relationships
    - The Holy Spirit loves to answer this prayer and shows insights into the other person's heart.
    - Listening actively to someone's ranting or upset behavior by seeking to understand the cause can help make the person feel heard and understood.
    - The speaker relies on prayer for guidance in all aspects of life.
    - They admit to struggling with conflict and have had to mature in this area due to their leadership roles.
    - The speaker has shifted their view of conflict from something destructive to an opportunity to strengthen relationships.
    - They emphasize the importance of listening to understand the other person's perspective in conflict, rather than trying to prove their own point.
    - The Holy Spirit's intervention can help to soften both parties' hearts and resolve the conflict.

    7. Building Personal Relationships
    - The speaker is very relational and values her relationships with her husband and adult children.
    - She offers her husband and herself grace during times of disagreement.
    - She has had challenges building friendships, particularly during a time living overseas as a missionary.
    - She learned to love people for who they are and invest in relationships outside of her comfort zone.
    - She started a Bible study that led to many women coming to know the Lord.
    - The speaker discusses the difficulty of building personal relationships in today's society due to the impact of social media. They explain that spending too much time on social media can lead to feelings of loneliness, despite the perceived connection.

    8. Listening Ministry
    - The speaker has written a book called "How to Listen so People Will Talk".
    - They acknowledge that they are a talkative person but strive to be a good listener.

Launching Our Kids Well with Colleen O'Grady

Launching Our Kids Well with Colleen O'Grady

How can we dial up relationships with our maturing kids and help them launch well? Today's guest, Colleen O'Grady, offers clinical and personal insights to guide parents on how to support adolescents and twenty-somethings toward successful experiences as adults.

Colleen O'Grady, MA, LPC is a licensed therapist and life coach who helps moms reduce drama, reclaim their lives, and dial up the dream with their teens and young adults. Colleen has a thriving private practice in Houston, TX and coaches moms from around the world. Colleen is also the creator of Power Your Parenting: How to Reconnect with Your Teen (and Reclaim Your Life). This is a seven-week program with like-minded moms designed to transform negative patterns (drama) into a healthy, fun, loving connection with your teen while you reclaim a life you love. Colleen is the host of the Power Your Parenting: Moms with Teens podcast, which has been ranked the number one podcast on parenting teens.

Colleen shares how her experience as a mother shaped the content she provides. She explains how parents and children sharpen one another in a mutual process of character shaping.

We discuss the importance of receptivity and teachability in a parent's perspective. We must prioritize listening over lecturing and transition from serving as monitors toward roles as consultants. O'Grady warns that it's all too easy during our children's teen years to fall into the trap of becoming a 24/7 monitor. Parents often focus too intently on data points, performance, and achievement at the expense of attending to our relationships. When a child leaves home, we can't monitor them. They're not obligated to maintain a close relationship with us after they move out of the house. If we don't parent with the relationship in mind, we will sabotage our long-term connection with them and also lose the opportunity to speak into our children's lives.

Colleen states that the greatest challenge of shifting our role from monitor to consultant can be keeping our mouths shut.

O'Grady explains that the quality of our kids' attachment correlates to their health and success as adults.

Parents should not aim to become their children's best friends, but they also should not set themselves up as their enemies. Parents need to learn to let go of managing their kids' lives. We offer the greatest benefit to our children by helping them learn to self-manage.

Parents will continue to have a role to play as consultants, partly due to the incomplete maturation of a young adult's brain. Parents cannot control adult children but can speak into their lives.

O'Grady discusses the issues parents struggle with as their young adults individuate, including fear of losing parental control and grief over the loss of the parental role.  She offers the following tips to help parents cope with this transition in healthy ways for them and their young adult children:

    • Wrote out worries and convert them into prayers.
    • Focus on what God wants, not on the disaster.
    • Prayer turns our worries into something useful.
    • Focus on the relationship as the first priority.
    • Be the safe place to which your child can come home.
    • Be an encourager that your adult child recognizes as safe, loving, compassionate, and non-judgmental.
    • If past interactions with your child have been critical, back off a bit and restart with playful, thoughtful, light-hearted communication that demonstrates you're speaking in your child's love language and recognizing their areas of interest.
    • As consultant, you're teaching your young adult how to think through problems and decisions.

Colleen recommends a strength-based approach and teaching your young adult to use what they have to move forward in a healthy way.

We discuss the struggle parents experience with worry versus trust.

O'Grady recommends an exercise in which parents journal gratitude, movement, and delight regarding their young adults.

We discuss the issues of grief and identity crisis experienced after children leave home. Colleen assures parents that God has a dream for them that isn't over. Overcome Anxiety with June Hunt

On this episode of Flourish-Meant, host Tina Yeager interviews June Hunt, founder of global biblical counseling ministry Hope for the Heart, to discuss how to overcome anxiety. June highlights the importance of trusting God and shares practical tips for managing anxiety attacks. They cover different types of anxiety disorders and share personal anecdotes of overcoming anxiety. Listeners are encouraged to check out "Hope from the Heart" for more resources.

June Hunt, M.A., is an author, singer, speaker, and founder of Hope For The Heart, a worldwide biblical counseling ministry. Her life work has yielded landmark contributions in the field of Christian counseling. Hope For The Heart, which she founded in 1986, offers biblical hope and practical help — through biblical counsel, coaching, and context for contemporary concerns — in more than 60 countries on 6 continents. Early family pain was the catalyst that shaped June’s compassionate heart. Later as a church youth director, and then becoming a college/career director, she became aware of the need for sound biblical counsel. This led June to a lifelong commitment to provide God’s Truth for Today’s Problems.

In this episode, we discuss the following key points:

Casting cares instead of reeling them back -

    • Insights into anxiety and how it can escalate out of control if not dealt with effectively
    • Highlight Jeremiah 29:11 as a verse that reassures trust in God's plan
    • Description of anxiety as the number one mental disorder and the excessive negative presumption of danger and over-exaggerating circumstances
    • Discussion of different types of anxiety disorders and their effects on normal functioning
    • Personal story of June's anxiety related to the fear of her father institutionalizing her mother and controlling her inheritance and life
    •  Emphasis on the importance of understanding realistic thoughts to overcome worry and excessive anxiety.
    • Thought management to control worry and overcome anxiety

All Things Work for Good with Gina G. Parker

All Things Work for Good with Gina G. Parker

Do all things work together for our good? Today's guest, attorney, author, and entrepreneur Gina G. Parker, helps us discover how all things can work to bless us even when we face life's trials.

Gina G. Parker is an attorney and a successful businesswoman as well as an author and speaker for churches and women’s groups.  Gina and her staff view the law practice as a ministry and share the love of Christ with those who enter the doors of her business.

Realizing a lifetime dream of owning a manufacturing company, Ms. Parker in 2001 founded Dental Creations, a dental manufacturing company, while continuing her general law practice. The company was founded with a vision to support missions, help women in crisis, and give second chances to criminal defendants through employment. Ms. Parker has voluntarily donated her legal services to help families and churches in crisis. She speaks at Sexual Abuse Recovery Seminars and has served as a board member for the Waco Family Abuse Center. Currently, she leads Hands of Hope International ministry. She and her family helped to purchase a Hungarian television station that reaches approximately 5 million homes with the gospel of Jesus Christ.

Gina how she endured many personal crises, including infertility. She shares how scripture passages offered her the hope she needed to persevere. Parker notes that many people abandon their faith when facing hardships. She offers hope and encouragement to her legal clients. But she also noticed their suffering and challenges, so she took action and established a business to help provide jobs and second chances for those in need.

When circumstances get overwhelming, Parker offers the following advice:

    • Separate the important from the unimportant.
    • Spend time in prayer and scriptural study.
    • Dwell in God's presence and turn stress over to him.

We discuss the difference between all things working out as we hoped and all things working for good. Gina outlines how to cope with the unexpected by defining the path as an alternate plan instead of an end. She states that God still has a plan even when things don't turn out as we expected. We can find peace, joy, and purpose in our relationship with Jesus, not in success or circumstances.

Parker acknowledges the pain of our tragedies is real. We discuss walking through the reality of struggle. She states that it is hard to persevere and "count it all joy."

Gina recommends holding onto scriptures like 1 Thessalonians 5:17, which advises us to pray without ceasing. She also offers the following strategies to get through life's storms:

    • Realize that God is both good and faithful.
    • Acknowledge the world is broken. God is still good. God is love.
    • Recognize the enemy's plan to deceive and destroy us.
    • Declare your trust in God aloud.
    • Denounce Satan's lies.
    • Hang onto life-giving core beliefs that honor God.
    • Recognize the enemy uses fear to assault our minds.
    • Renew your mind at the onset of and during life's trials.
    • Post encouraging verses where you'll see them.

Parker states, "Truth is the greatest defender in the face of tragedy."

We discuss how to recognize when we've misplaced our trust and believed a lie. Gina shares her personal story of overcoming sexual abuse by partnering with God's truth instead of shame lies.

Gina shares some of her favorite scriptures, including Romans 8. She notes the power of speaking the truth over yourself aloud.

We discuss how to handle difficult people. Parker explains that anger does not work for our benefit. She states that our best responses to those who won't listen are silence and prayer. Changing the mindset of someone with an obstinate heart is unlikely to happen with words. Prayer can change us for the better even if the situation doesn't change.

Parker shares about her upcoming mission trip to Hungary, where she helped purchase a Christian television station to bring the message of hope to millions.

Immerse in Healing Rain with Sue Detweiler

Immerse in Healing Rain with Sue Detweiler

Get ready to explore the transformative power of Christ's healing. In this episode of Flourish-Meant, host Tina Yeager engages in a captivating conversation with Sue Detweiler, renowned speaker, podcast host, and author of "Healing Rain."

Sue Detweiler is an inspirational author, prophetic speaker, and host of the Healing Rain podcast listened to in 135 nations. She is a recognized member of Randy Clark’s Global Awakening Network and Apostle Guillermo Maldonado’s Supernatural Global Network. Sue also received the highest recognition from the president of the Foursquare Church, Jack Hayford, for leading Life School of Ministry, a three-year Bible training institute in Nashville that grew to five hundred students. She earned a Master of Divinity from Vanderbilt University and is pursuing a doctorate with Global Awakening Theological Seminary.

Sue Detweiler began preaching at the age of 19. With her husband, Wayne, she planted and co-pastored their first church at the age of 22. With a strong prophetic teaching gift, Sue has equipped men and women to become pastors, evangelists, and missionaries to the nations. She is an international speaker and travels to Central America, South America, Europe, Africa, and the Middle East.

Sue shares profound insights and personal experiences that will leave you inspired and equipped to embark on your own healing journey. Throughout the discussion, Sue emphasizes the importance of exploring spiritual solutions when facing chronic illness. She compassionately reminds us that being sick is not our fault and that physical symptoms can be real and medically verifiable. Sue sheds light on the impact of isolation from the community of God and constant negative thoughts, which can manifest as demonization. Believing that inner healing, deliverance, and physical healing often go hand in hand, Sue unveils unforgiveness as a doorway for the enemy. Drawing from her own triumph over childhood abuse and a spirit of rejection, Sue showcases the power of Jesus as the ultimate healer who can bring freedom from negative realities. Sue's deep love and admiration for God's healing abilities shine through as she addresses prevalent unbelief and its manifestation as doubt in the truth of God's word. While acknowledging the fallen world we live in, Sue encourages us to consider that healing may not always be 100% successful on Earth but can occur in heaven. Recognizing the connection between our mindset and our physical well-being, Sue explores the significance of replacing a victim mentality with a victor mentality. She invites us to focus on the word of God and magnify the truth that Jesus is the healer, thereby shifting our perspective and aligning our bodies with God's truth. Throughout the episode, Sue provides practical resources to enhance our healing journey. She invites listeners to visit their website and download the "7 Keys of Divine Healing," which delves into the transformative impact of Jesus Christ's work on the cross. Additionally, Sue generously offers written prayers for expressing gratitude to God for each bodily system, highlighting the supernatural aspects of our bodies' ability to heal. The power of communion as a practical step for healing is emphasized by Sue, who shares a heartwarming anecdote about her daughter experiencing a potential miscarriage but claiming the life of the baby through prayer and communion, resulting in a healthy birth. Sue believes that taking communion regularly and with faith can bring about a change in mindset and emotional state, allowing us to receive Jesus as our healer. The presence of demonic forces in our lives is a topic Sue courageously addresses, drawing from her personal experiences and spiritual growth. She recounts a powerful story of a friend who suffered from severe gastrointestinal issues and found deliverance from a spirit of trauma in a healing meeting. After being delivered, her friend experienced complete healing. To close the episode, Sue highlights the importance of understanding our identity as imprinted by God and outlined in His word. She invites listeners to explore her book, "Healing Rain," which provides a blueprint for applying this understanding to their lives. Sue delves into the power of reframing difficult circumstances, allowing for authentic expression of feelings while acknowledging faith in Jesus as the ultimate healer.

Sue introduces the concept of a healing team, emphasizing the power of a supportive community to address crises and overcome medical statistics through faith in God's reality. The importance of believing in God's report and receiving breakthroughs and turning points in life is beautifully underscored. In closing, Sue expresses compassion for those who are sick and suffering, recognizing the need for a breakthrough and for Jesus to be present as our healer. She reminds us that healing often involves a journey of transformation in our hearts and souls. Join us on Flourish-Meant as we dive into Sue Detweiler's incredible insights and experiences. You can listen to the full episode on our website, and make sure to check out Sue's book, "Healing Rain," which offers a blueprint for discovering Jesus as your ultimate healer. Hope, Transformation, and Victory with Caroline S. Cooper

Hope, Transformation, and Victory with Caroline S. Cooper

Hope can we find hope, transformation, and victory when we need it most? Today's guest, Caroline S. Cooper, guides us along the journey from emotional pain and trauma to healing.

Caroline Cooper is an author, podcast host, and speaker on topics related to mental health primarily from a Christian perspective. In addition to having personal experience with trauma and mental illness, Caroline is a Certified Peer Specialist in mental health and has a master's in Bible & Theology.

Caroline shares how she tried to bury and ignore trauma and mood swings earlier in her life. She explains how unresolved trauma and untreated mood swings worsened and surfaced despite her attempts to hide her emotional struggle. God pulled her toward prayer and gave her a glimmer of hope. From there, Caroline began a journey of transformation and victory.

Through counseling, treatment, and working through her issues with God's help, Caroline went through healing and recovery. She was transformed through the healing of her past and found victory. God then pulled Caroline into mental health ministry.

Cooper explains that victory isn't a single, dramatic achievement. She defines victory as the next right choice. We can experience a series of victories on the recovery journey, each of which begins with a tiny seed of hope.

We discuss the importance of a support system and point out that God often uses people to serve in his work of healing in our lives. Caroline notes that most people do not want to talk about mental illness, but she emphasizes the need to seek healthy and supportive people to come alongside us in recovery.  She encourages all those struggling with emotional battles or trauma to reach out to trustworthy people for help.

Cooper details the steps of emotional recovery.

    1. We must begin with hope, since we have no motivation or purpose without hope. We are unlikely to take any helpful action without at least a glimmer of hope. Recognize that God has a plan and purpose for you. Psalms 42, 43, and 44 are songs of deliverance that echo the importance of hoping in the Lord. Anything else will disappoint us.
    2. Once we have hope, we can take action. Transformation is defined as the change we need to make to become healthy. We don't need to change our essence, but we will instead change into the person God created us to be. With God's help, we can address needed change with confidence. Transformation begins in the mind and heart. We correct our unhealthy thoughts with the truth.
    3. Victory is defined as making the next right decision. Recovery involves a series of small victories. See Psalm 21:31 and 2 Corinthians 15:56-58.

Cooper defines recovery as a cycle because it is ongoing. There's always room to grow. Each victory brings hope for the next step.

We discuss how to recover from setbacks while on the journey. SAMHSA defines recovery as a process. Cooper encourages those who experienced a setback to start again by finding hope. Caroline also notes that having a support network helps us recover from setbacks.

Connect with Caroline via email at caroline@ingodscorner.org. Find her podcast and get a copy of her new book, In This Corner: Battling Trauma and Mental Illness from Inside the Ring, on her website, accessible at carolinescooper.com or ingodscorner.org

Roadmap from Lost Lonely and Low with Estella Kirk

Roadmap from Lost Lonely and Low with Estella Kirk

Have you ever felt lost, lonely, or low? Today's guest, Estella Kirk, shares insights for those who need a roadmap from negativity and insecurity to living with confidence.

Estella Kirk has a strong message for teens and young women about self-esteem. She’s only 17 years old, but she has already experienced the agony of low self-esteem at 15. Estella has been a successful actress and model….with even a new acting roll with a movie in Atlanta recently.  She is an incredibly talented Christian pop artist, who just released her second album, Running on Low. The new songs relate to the feelings of being lost and alone, but with every message Estella lets the listener know that God is always there, with every step of the way in life’s journey.

Kirk shares her childhood struggles with insecurity. She relates how the motivational shift toward serving others in Christ's strength improved her confidence.

Estella also notes that she battled negative thoughts in her early teens and discovered that the lyrics of songs she had been listening to were feeding those negative thoughts and emotions.

Kirk said that teens have shared their personal struggles with insecurity with her, attesting to how common this problem has become.

Estella identifies the detours of scrolling through social media that can lead to comparison traps and insecurity. She warns against allowing the enemy's voice to get inside your head.

Kirk relates her own struggle with confidence. She encourages listeners to center their self-worth on Christ by reading the truth of their identity in Christ from scripture daily. Estella also emphasizes the need to pay attention to the influences in your life, including music as well as the people you spend time with.

We identify potential traps in following fashion trends, especially for young adults. Kirk defines the significance of clothing yourself with spiritual integrity and righteousness. She shares her experience as a member of an influencer group in California. Estella made the decision not to wear the immodest tank top the rest of the group promoted. We discuss the dangers of setting forth a statement suggesting worth lies in sensuality rather than character.

Estella recounts how she learned that her worth did not come from achievements. She encourages those struggling with insecurity to take the following steps:

    • Ask prayerfully, "Why do I feel like this?"
    • Ask the Lord to help you through your feelings.
    • Use prayer and scripture as a roadmap to guide you out of insecurity.
    • Surround yourself with people who will lift you up.
    • Invest time in developing your relationship with God.

We explore ways to seek connection with a healthy fellowship of believers.

Kirk reassures teens that they can make a difference. She emphasizes that your Christ-centered dreams and goals matter. If it is God's plan, he will carry you through.

Estella addresses the seasons when we feel alone while pursuing God's calling.

She also shares a message of grace for those who have made mistakes or who've been wounded by the transgressions of others. Kirk encourages us to resist the cultural pressures that lead to negative emotions or unhealthy coping.

Estella recounts a story of when a friend expressed suicidality. We discuss ways to respond to those in despair. We emphasize the importance of reaching out to get help. Saving a life takes priority over our friends' approval.

Estella shares her key-shaped logo based on Isaiah 22:22 and announces she'll soon release branded merchandise.
