So FRIENDS & KIN, I am gonna be extremely transparent for this episodeIf you have been listening to this show since its inception then you know around September-ish, sis gets a bit of the blues. Not a heavy depression where I don’t want to leave my bed but we have to remember that depression manifests itself in so many different ways. 

There are symptoms that we would never think to associate with depression. In this episode I go over what some of these symptoms can be, and let me be honest - after I read these symptoms, I was shocked! I learned there is such a thing called - HIDDEN DEPRESSION! During this episode I dive into what Hidden Depression looks like, because I can promise you - we have been hoodwinked when it comes to our perception of depression. Friends and Kin in this episode I had the pleasure of interviewing an amazing sista with a story that definitely should be shared. Jasmine IVANNA Espy, 29, influencer, filmmaker and advocate is a co-producer on the upcoming documentary, “The Beacons: Illuminating HS Stories,” a new docuseries from Novartis that highlights her story and others living with Hidradenitis Suppurativa (HS), a disfiguring skin disease with no cure that causes small, painful lumps to form under the skin. HS is estimated to affect as many as 1 in 100 people worldwide. Black women under the age of 40 have the highest risk of developing HS and may also have more severe cases than white people. Despite this disparity, they tend to go longer without a diagnosis or treatment.  

In Part Two of this conversation, Jasmine shares her experience with HS & how it has affected how she navigates life. She tells us about how this condition affects her as a grown woman, her mental health and social interaction. Jasmine also shares how she has used her voice to advocate for herself and others with HS. Jasmine took a diagnose that caused a lot of trauma as a young girl and has flipped it on its head to go out into the world and make a difference. She is a superhero! This conversation is one of the reasons I started this podcast, as there are so many stories in our community that are untold. It’s time to share them! Enjoy! 😊

I dive into how doing simple things can help you to develop self-awareness in your life and how to incorporate different techniques into your daily living that will help to develop self-awareness in your life. The real question to ask yourself is - WHO IN THE WORLD AM I? No, seriously - who are you in the world & who in the world are you? Literally & Figuratively. I even included a series of questions to ask yourself when you want to do an evaluation of where you are with self-awareness. It might be time for a check-in!

Listen, being single is extremely freeing and allows you to navigate this planet as you wish. So many people are hellbent on being attached to someone else or something else, but there is a peace in not being bound. Not to say that being in a healthy relationship is BAD, however, there is something to be said about being free to be until we (the singles of the world) meet the person that makes us feel FREE in a HEALTHY, committed union. Until I meet him, I will be focusing on myself and becoming the best version of ourselves that we can be!

Friends and Kin it’s that time of year again! Time for the kids to go BACK TO SCHOOL!!!! In this episode, I talk about getting ready for back to school. Now be advised, THIS MESSAGE WILL BE FOR EVERYBODY!!! If you don’t have kids, do have kids even if you work with kids - directly or indirectly. It’s for EVERYONE. Because we are ALL affected directly and/or indirectly, whether you are aware of it or not.

You are probably wondering - HOW AM I IMPACTED IF I DON’T HAVE ANY KIDS… LISTEN, we are ALL impacted. Think about it… 

Traffic - when kids are in school the roads are so congested!

Stores - the lines are longer, parents are frustrated with buying school stuff making them very testy and annoyed in stores & stores are always out of things we’d usually have easy access to. 

But the TRAFFIC, MAN. SHEESH!

I also polled some educators across the country, about the state of education - TODAY. As in right now. It was such an amazing way to hear from mouths of the people actually out in the trenches. Please listen to this episode. I really enjoyed this episode & I hope you do too!

In this episode we have a candid and off the cuff conversation about LONELINESS. I take a deep dive into what happens when you work on healing it by going straight to its core! People don't seem to understand just how serious loneliness can be if we just continue to brush it aside like it's not a big deal. There are so many health risks, and not just our mental and emotional health. Loneliness can adversely affect our physical health just as well.  

I discuss the difference between LONELINESS and SOLITUDE or BEING ALONE. There is a MAJOR difference and if you aren't aware of what those differences are, well you need to just tune in and get some of this good information. Go get some tea, then come and get the tea!

We must address the tendency to sabotage our success in order to show up in the world as OUR BEST VERSION OF OURSELVES. 

I dive into exactly what self-sabotage is and the different ways it can show up in our lives. I also talk about how to identify and attack it when we notice it’s happening. I offer a few options on how to fight back when it shows up. It starts with really getting into WHAT YOU REALLY DESIRE FOR YOURSELF. So go listen in and start to process for YOURSELF what you need to do to create an environment where you are ready to fight against self-sabotage when it rears it’s ugly head. I am talking about being petty and the way folks take PRIDE in being PETTY. When I say YOU - I am talking to me, you, you, you and anybody else that it is for. And that is for any and all of us who need to stop being PETTY!

I dive into the different ways being petty may show up in our behaviors, what could be at the root of those behaviors and how being petty can and does effect our all of relationships. I also touch on ways to shift that behavior when you are in the moment to opt out of being negative and unkind. Because, let’s be honest - being petty is just being unkind…

Friends and Kin this episode is final episode of the TWO part show that I did with one of my best friends. Crystal & I have been friends since we were Freshman at Morgan State University! That’s 25 years of friendship. Our friendship is a healthy balance of Libra/Scorpio + Capricorn energy that is a ball of fun. 

This conversation is all about our big trip to Paris to see King Beyoncé that had a lot of funny and INTERESTING moments! From the strange ladies on the plane talking so loud you would have thought they were on the playground to me knocking a basket of rolls on the floor - intentionally. 🤓🤣

We talk about the experience seeing Beyoncé live and both of us HIGHLY recommend that EVERYBODY that is FINANCIALLY ABLE go to experience, what I believe will be her LAST live performance! It was such an amazing time & although Crystal and I don’t see eye to eye on love for Paris, we had one of the best times ever on vacation - and we travel together several times a year! 🛫🛳️

This vacation was absolutely amazing & I can’t wait to get back to France. I want to visit some other cities, outside of Paris next.

Friends and Kin, this is episode No. 52 of Hand Me My Purse the podcast! For those of you who are new to this show - WELCOME! Take off your coat, and your shoes, sit down and stay awhile… This conversation is centered around celebrating Juneteenth & Black Music Month. This is a month that was created by former president Jimmy Carter to celebrate Black people’s contributions to music! I touch on how our ancestors used music and the gift of song to make their way to freedom. I dive into the beautifully tragic reality that makes up how enslaved Africans made it to the Western world and how even though our ancestors endured this - they still had a song in their spirit. We in turn continue to sing their song, to express through music the songs written onto our DNA.

It's been a minute. ⏱️  Sis has been BUSY BUSY BUSY as a bee! 🐝  Auntie MeMe has been working day & night like the Jackson 5 back in the 70s, man.  I don't have TOO much to say just yet, but I do want to express my sincere gratitude for your patience.  Now if you will just hold tight for a little while longer, I promise I have some important news for you coming very soon.
