In hindsight, The Dawning of the Age of LiLo was perhaps more portentous of the road to come than we may have thought at the time. We’ve never read the book “Confessions of a Teenage Drama Queen” is based on, and this movie certainly doesn’t pique my interest. In fact, the most interesting thing about the movie is the career trajectories of its youngest stars. Some became top dollar talent, some stopped acting entirely. This movie is a question, and the answer is “No.”

AUDIO WARNING: When we mention line dancing, and drop the clip of dance rehearsal and Lola thinking about being a professional, the next clip is Josh shrieking bird noises. It sounds awful because we pulled it from a home cam. We could not pass up the opportunity to share this peek into our lives, but we wanted you to be aware in case you’ve got sensitive eardrums. There really isn’t a whole lot to say about The New Mutants that we don’t cover in less time than they did. There’s easily about a podcast’s length of plot that was left on the cutting room floor. Josh was legitimately excited by the first trailer for this film, but corporate monopolization and global pandemics got in the way of a film that could have been good enough to overcome Charlie Heaton’s… “accent.”

If you step back really far, about 20 years back or so, you can why Smart House exists. Not exactly a star turn or a career maker for anyone involved, though Katy Sagal gives us an amazing, terrifying,  Proto-Tarunga Leela meets Theranos Beta dressed up as Small Wonder. It’s no wonder it tops so many lists when it features a giant scary robot woman. “Step on me, Mommy!” is a more common thought than we may feel comfortable admitting.
