    The Authority Show

If you are a coach, consultant or course creator then chances are you are driven by the desire to help as many people as you can, and leave a lasting impact. You have experience that needs to be shared. Knowledge that needs to be taught. A message that needs to be heard. Plus, a business that needs to be scaled. But in the age when anyone with an opinion can shout about it on the internet, why is it that some coaches are able to cut through the noise and position themselves as true influencers with something meaningful to share? What is it that they are doing that you haven’t figured out yet? The answer, of course, is writing their book. Because writing a book is the most powerful way to position yourself as a thought leader and the go-to expert in your niche. Because when you do that, you are going to be able to 10x your influence, your impact and your income. I’m Jessica Killingley and I’m a book mentor, coach and literary agent. I work with ambitious entrepreneurs who help other people to do extraordinary things. I’m going to be sharing my experience from over two decades in publishing and everything I know about selling books, creating bestsellers, personal development, coaching and business, so that you can get a brilliant book out into the world that’s going to turn delighted readers into devoted clients. Welcome to The AUTHORity Show.

EP65: Writing a book with a neurodivergent brain [Writing with ADHD mini series]

EP65: Writing a book with a neurodivergent brain [Writing with ADHD mini series]

Hello and welcome to a new episode of The Authority Show. I am so excited to share this one with you and introduce my new 'mini-series'.

In the following few episodes, we are talking about the subject of ADHD and particularly writing with it. Now throughout becoming a book coach, creating this podcast, and even when writing my blueprint guides... I was not aware I had ADHD. This diagnosis came much later, but now it makes complete and utter sense to me. The way my brain processes book writing is not typical, and I believe its due to this, that has armed me with the skills and techniques to coach it in others.

Our guest today is Claire Purcell, a professional copywriter and also one of my coaching clients on the path to writing a novel. In this episode, we're talking about her experience with ADHD, from navigating it at work, to being medicated for it and how this effects her creative 'flow'. We also share both of our diagnoses and how we have learnt to love our 'little quirk in our brain'.

     Key moments from this episode:

    • (1:00) Introduction to our new mini series
    • (7:40) Claire and her career background in copywriting
    • (19:00) Claire's diagnosis
    • (26:00) Working with ADHD
    • (32:00) Jessica's diagnosis
    • (40:00) Writing a book with ADHD

EP64: Q&A about books and money - where to spend it, how to make it.

A very happy Monday and welcome to a new episode of the podcast.

In this episode, I took to my Instagram and received any questions my followers had on MONEY in book writing.

Together, we are looking at the pros and cons of traditional publishing, vs self-publishing. And the investment opportunities that can arise, such as hiring a PR or a marketing expert.

I KNOW how daunting this can all be, but that's why I am here, and this episode should help you decide what's right for you and your book.

Ep 61: How much time do I need to commit to writing my book?

Welcome back to another episode of The Authority show, and episode 4 of this week's re-launch. In this mini-episode, we are breaking down what time actually means when writing a book, and how to manoeuvre this around your lifestyle.

I'm sharing my 4 pillars and stages of not just the writing, but the forming of a book. From the planning to the writing, to the editing and publishing, and even to years in the future, and how to still see results this far after publication.

Now, there is no perfect day to write a book and there is no spiritual ritual or notebook that can make you do it... it's just you, putting in the necessary work.

We also touch on the idea of front-end perfectionism and how this could be holding you back from reaching these goals.

Ep 60: How to let writing your book be easy

Ep 60: How to let writing your book be easy

In today's short, but powerful episode, I ask you some incredibly thought-provoking questions:

What if, you stopped believing that writing a book was going to be hard?

What if, you stopped believing in finishing the book you started, was going to be hard?

What if, you stopped believing conditions had to be met, for you to be deemed a 'writer'?

What if, you stopped believing that there are too many books on that subject, and there isn't enough room for you in that market?

    ________________________________________________

Join me in this episode, to dig into what 'hard' really means in terms of writing, and how we can flip this into your motivation for getting it done.

It's time to show up for YOU, and do what YOU need to do.

Ep 59: How to avoid writing the wrong book

Ep 59: How to avoid writing the wrong book

So, what do I mean when I say 'Don't write the wrong book.'?

In today's episode, we're unpacking this statement into 3 important points, to make sure you are writing the correct book for yourself and your clients.

1: How to write a personal book, the RIGHT way. In this section, we are reminding you of the brutally honest truth, that your readers do not care about YOU. They think about themselves, but also how YOU can solve their problems.

2: How long is too long? And why you shouldn't make yourself such an expert in EVERYTHING.

3: And writing a book for future clients, not just 'now' clients. We talk about why this is so important for continuing your book sales over the next season of your business.
