Episode 160: What is keto crotch? Dr. Oakley explains keto crotch & what you can do to get rid of vaginal odor

There’s no doubt that a keto diet is a great way to lose weight, but it can also hit you straight in the vagina. Have you recently started keto and noticed an unpleasant vaginal odor? You may have developed keto crotch. Keto crotch is a noticeable change in vaginal odor after starting the keto diet. While there isn’t a lot of scientific research on this topic, plenty of women report that they experience keto crotch. Changing to a high-fat and low-carb diet shifts your body to burn fat instead of sugar for energy. Keto triggers profound metabolic changes that support weight loss, balance hormone levels, and improve cognition. The good news is that once your body adjusts to burning fat, keto crotch will go away. Here’s what Dr. Oakley & Holly will go over in this episode: • Yes, it’s 100% true that eating a keto diet can mess your vagina’s pH • A keto diet is based on the consumption of high protein and fat, and low carbs. This entire thing might be great when it comes to weight loss, but when you talk about the pH level of your vagina, it fails miserably. • How to get rid of keto crotch • Experiencing keto crotch doesn’t mean keto isn’t right for you. As your body adjusts to the keto diet, unpleasant smells around your crotch area will diminish and there are plenty of steps you can take in the meantime to reduce symptoms. • Eat plenty of green leafy vegetables. • Green leafy veggies like spinach, collard greens, and mustard greens are rich sources of chlorophyll, a bright green pigment. Chlorophyll is also known as an “internal deodorizer” and helps with keto-breath and other keto-related body odors. If keto crotch is linked to pH imbalance or changes to the bacterial ecosystem of the vagina, a probiotic supplement can reduce odors and support your vaginal health like from Utiva Health. Episode 159: Your Vagina Ages, too. Dr. Oakley explains why

Episode 159: Your Vagina Ages, too. Dr. Oakley explains why

If you recently took a peek down south and were surprised (to say the least) to see wrinkles, you're far from alone. Everyone has wrinkles there. Visible signs of aging, like crow's feet and gray hairs, are a common part of getting older. And just like the rest of your body, your vagina and vulva also change as you age. During your 40s and 50s, your body starts producing less estrogen as you enter perimenopause, the transitional period before menopause. Estrogen keeps vaginal collagen plump and moist and helps provide good blood flow to the area. However, during perimenopause, decreasing estrogen levels can make vaginal tissue thinner and less elastic. Your clitoris may shrink, and your labia may become less full, potentially changing in color, and starting to sag. A decrease in collagen may contribute to sagging skin all over your body, including your vulva, and weaker pelvic floor muscles. Still, there are ways to help you keep your vagina healthy, like doing Kegel exercises and using lube or a vaginal moisturizer. While it's normal for aging vaginas to change, that doesn't mean you have to deal with uncomfortable side effects. If you have any concerns about your vaginal health, consult with a healthcare provider. A big Shout-Out to our fabulous Sponsor UTIVA!!! Episode 158: Let's get the party started!! Happy Pink-Taco Tuesday-

In honor of the fabulous P!NK coming to Cincinnati with her Summer Carnival Tour to GABP. Dr. Oakley & Holly will go over how to treat a sweaty concert vagina and what you can use to keep her fresh, our absolute favorite is Utiva Health wipes. Speaking of all things Pink, labia can vary in appearance, due to differences in the size and shape of the inner and outer lips. While there are many types, all labia have characteristics that make them unique. Many women worry that their vagina/vulva doesn’t look “normal,” but there really is no normal. The only normal out there is what’s normal for you. Also, can POISON IVY spread to your vagina? NEW Episode 155: Public Restrooms: To Squat or Not to Squat?

NEW Episode 155: Public Restrooms: To Squat or Not to Squat?

If there’s one thing that makes us envy men (apart from the fact that they don’t have to suffer period and labor pains), it’s the fact that they can stand and pee in public restrooms. The idea of sitting on a toilet seat with your bare skin and especially not knowing the hygiene condition of the toilet or how the person before you used the toilet…you can feel a little squeamish about it. You asked, Dr. Oakley: • Should I Use a Toilet Seat Cover? • Can sitting on a public toilet cause harm to the skin? • I’ve read that squatting while using the restroom can be harmful to pelvic health. Is this true? What does the pelvic floor consist of? • Sphincter control, [which refers to the] opening and closing of the urinary and anal sphincters. • Sexual function (“Yes, better pelvic health means better orgasms!”) • Stabilization, [which] stabilizes your pelvis, hips, and low back. • Internal organs support (“Don't strain when you pee or poop-- you could cause a prolapse!”) • “Sump pump,” [which] circulates lymph, blood, oxygen, and nutrients. One thing you shouldn't do. Hover over the seat while you pee. Doing so puts you in a partial squatting position, which can weaken your pelvic floor muscles over time. It also makes it harder for your bladder to fully empty. That can increase the risk for problems like incontinence or urinary tract infections. The only thing more miserable than a urinary tract infection (UTI) is when it happens again, and again, and again. But, good news, there are ways to prevent post-menopause RECURRENT URINARY TRACT INFECTIONS. But sometimes urinary urgency, burning, and that “I gotta go NOW” feeling is NOT FROM an infection but need a completely different kind of treatment. You need to know the difference. Dr. Oakley also stresses that transposition of fecal matter and hormone changes make you more susceptible to UTIs. PSA: wipe front to back, ladies! Be sure to: • Pee after sex • Stay hydrated. • Pee whenever you must, and make sure you ‘GO’ fully. A big Shout-Out to our fabulous Sponsor UTIVA!!! You can help lower your risk of preventing UTIs. Episode 153: “Vallergies” Itchy, Itchy, Ow!

Swollen lips? Unusual discharge? Burning sensations? Your vagina could be allergic to something... We call it, “VALLERGIES.” Vaginal allergies, or allergic vaginitis, is an irritation of the vagina or vulva caused by an allergic reaction. One of the major symptoms of an allergic reaction is vulvitis, which is inflammation of the vulva or vagina. Some symptoms can include: • Vaginal burning or itching • Vaginal swelling • Abnormal discharge • Cracks on the skin of the vulva • Blisters on the vulva If you are currently experiencing mysterious bumps, rashes, itching, and redness, or have in the past, you may be wondering what the culprit is. Dr. Oakley & Holly will go over some of the symptoms of a vaginal allergic reaction and common things that you may be allergic to. If you're suffering from irritation in the vagina or on the vulva, seek input from your gynecological healthcare provider to rule out related conditions like STIs, yeast infection, bacterial vaginosis, or a drop in estrogen. Then, you can see if vaginal allergies might be what's happening with you. Thank you for listening. Episode 151: You Ask Dr. Oakley: Part 1 - Q&A

When it comes to women's health, there is no such thing as a silly question. If you have a health question you want answered, but have been too embarrassed or shy to bring up with your doctor? You can ‘Ask Dr. Susan Oakley' MD, Medical Services: Women's Health, Urogynecology, Specialties: Female Pelvic Medicine and Reconstructive Surgery. If you have a health concern or any questions, please email us at Theladybodpod@gmail.com. In this episode, Dr. Oakley & Holly will go over some of your questions below: • I am 44 years old and about 6 months ago, I had an issue with an itchy bottom. It is not all the time, but it seems to be worse when it is time for my monthly menses. I didn’t ask the doctor when I had my recent pap smear, but he said everything looked normal. However, I am really embarrassed by it. What could be causing my vagina to itch so much? • Do hormone balancing supplements work? If so is there one you recommend? I'm wondering about it for weight, hot flashes, night sweats etc... I've been told I'm not in any stages of menopause but I'm having trouble with all of these things at 40. Any advice or help would be appreciated. • What can you use/do to feel fresh after having intercourse, since douching is not recommended? Thank you for listening. Episode 150: Born with two vaginas: Double-up, ugh, ugh... Ugh!

Some women have two vaginas; the condition is called 'uterus didelphys'. Uterus didelphys is a congenital condition where you’re born with two uteruses. It’s commonly called a double uterus. It can cause pregnancy complications and painful menstruation. Some people have surgery to treat uterus didelphys, but most cases don’t require treatment. How is uterus didelphys diagnosed? Dr. Oakley & Holly will go over those steps in this episode, like your healthcare provider may diagnose a double uterus during a routine pelvic exam after feeling two cervixes or two vaginas. They’ll likely order additional imaging tests to confirm uterus didelphys. How does it affect you? Apart from the inconvenience of potentially having to deal with two periods, many women with a double uterus have normal sex lives, pregnancies, and deliveries, double-up, ugh, ugh... Ugh! (Like, Sir Mix-A-Lot - Baby Got Back) Take a moment and imagine the horror of two periods...in one month. Find out more in this episode. Thank you for listening. Episode 149: Menopause and Orgasms -WHY so many women have difficulty having an orgasm in menopause

Episode 149: Menopause and Orgasms -WHY so many women have difficulty having an orgasm in menopause

Did you use to routinely have orgasms? Do you miss your orgasm? Would you like to have orgasms again? Yessssss!!! Dr. Oakley & Holly will chat on how you can overcome the negative symptoms of menopause and rediscover the joy of sex? “Love Your Body” and improving body confidence can be a simple way to get your sexy back. During menopause, your estrogen levels take a sharp decline, affecting your interest in sex, ability to become aroused or adequately stimulated through touch, and making it difficult to reach orgasm during sexual activity. This hormone depletion leads to vaginal atrophy, the thinning and weakening of vaginal tissue, which makes intercourse uncomfortable, increases the risk of UTIs and other infections, and causes tissue tearing and bleeding. So Lube It Up and moisturizer! Unlike some symptoms of menopause that lessen over time, such as hot flashes, the dryness from vaginal atrophy tends to continue and worsen unless treated. Using an over-the-counter moisturizer every 2 or 3 days counteracts vaginal dryness while also providing lubrication for the friction of sexual activity. You asked Dr. Oakley: Why do UTIs occur in menopausal women? As you age, your vaginal tissue thins, making it more likely to cause infection. UTIs risk is much higher throughout perimenopause and menopause due to the drop in estrogen levels; the hormone estrogen allows good bacteria to grow and helps maintain an acidic environment, keeping the bad bacteria out. Incontinence and bladder prolapse are also other factors that cause UTIs in postmenopausal women. Dr. Susan Oakley highly recommends Utiva's clinically proven line of urinary tract infection prevention supplements to her patients and she takes the fabulous products herself. Utiva's clinically proven line of urinary tract infection prevention supplements as created under the guidance and trust of medical professionals to help reduce the need for antibiotics. Episode 148: What makes you feel sexy?

Episode 148: What makes you feel sexy?

Dr. Oakley & Holly believes SEXY is self-expression. Feeling sexy is a state of mind. Sexy is being unapologetically you. Ladies, our husbands/partners love us. They find us sexy by just being ourselves. They married/ are with you because they were attracted to you. Because they found you sexy. And we’re sure there were some physical aspects of that, but there’s a whole lot more to it. It’s the whole package. And we know sometimes it’s hard to feel sexy when your body has changed with time and after having kids from what it once was. But when you step into owning your sexuality and being confident in who you are now, you can be sexy. Sexy is being unapologetically you. Feeling sexy is a state of mind. There are a lot of factors that go into getting that mindset, but the most important is having good energy and feeling good about yourself — being happy with who you are. As women we are sold the story that sexiness is being a certain age or size, but I don’t buy it. Sexiness comes from within. Yes, a nice compliment from our partners helps, but it wouldn’t be enough to sustain the feeling that I AM sexy! I feel sexiest when I feel good about myself. When I’m being brave, taking chances, and striving to achieve something. I know I am sexy because showing up, stepping up, and getting sh!t done—that’s sexy. Inner power is sexy. You’re sexy, girl!! Don’t you ever forget it!! 👑🌟💫🙌💖🌷. Thank you for listening. Please send in your comments, questions and suggestions for future topics TheLadyBodPod@gmail.com. Episode 146: So, how are things looking in your underwear?

Episode 146: So, how are things looking in your underwear?

Have you ever been concerned about the way you smell... down there? There are few things more stressful than running to the bathroom thinking, "I can smell my discharge through my pants — can everyone else?!" If you think you caught a whiff of something funky down there, you might not be imagining it. Odor tends to come from sweat - the vulva and vagina have sweat glands, like elsewhere on your body. And the scent may change as our menstrual cycle progresses, in response to hormones, or at the end of the day. Noticing vaginal odor, if it's your normal one, does not mean you don't have good hygiene or (god forbid) should start douching. No need to buy those scented sprays, either - the chemicals may give you a bad reaction, or lead to copious amounts of discharge. Your vagina should smell like...a vagina. So how do you know if your smell is normal or not? Dr. Oakley & Holly will go over some of the reasons why your vagina could be smelling, and when you should check in with your doctor about it. Thank you for listening. Please send in your comments, questions and suggestions for future topics at TheLadyBodPod.com.

Episode 145: Ask Dr. Oakley: You wanted to know more about Kourtney Kardashian's Vagina gummies and she’s not holding back

Episode 145: Ask Dr. Oakley: You wanted to know more about Kourtney Kardashian's Vagina gummies and she’s not holding back

We love that we are bringing attention to vaginal health but this idea that your vagina is dirty and should smell like a flower or taste like fresh pineapples is ridiculous. We had a few listeners asking if the Lemme gummies are good for your vagina or are we being swindled? This product suggests that women need to smell a certain way—and that’s just not normal and could also lead you worrying about the smell of your own vagina, when it is completely normal. The vagina is actually a self-cleaning oven. Because vaginas clean themselves, no special products are needed to maintain hygiene. Dr. Oakley suggest rinsing the vulva off with warm water is enough to keep vaginas healthy (unscented soaps are safe too); mild soap for body areas with hair, the inner thighs, and the rectum is all you need. I mean, do we talk about penises like this? Nooooooo… LOL - From Kourtney Kardashian's Lemme to Gweneth Paltrow's Goop, are celebrity supplements actually worth the hype??!! Holly & Dr. Oakley will go over this very question in this episode. Thank you for listening. Please send in your comments, questions and suggestions for future topics at TheLadyBodPod@gmail.com.

Episode 144: Things could get real poopy! Sorry, girl: Norovirus “stomach flu’ is here & it’s the devil

Episode 144: Things could get real poopy! Sorry, girl: Norovirus “stomach flu’ is here & it’s the devil

The stomach flu, which causes intense but sorta short episodes of vomiting and diarrhea — with or without a brief period of fever, chills, and body aches — is spreading rapidly. Seriously, wash your dang hands: Norovirus is primarily spread when traces of a sick person’s poop or vomit sneak into our mouths via our hands or food they’ve prepared. However, the virus also spreads through aerosols that hang around after someone pukes, so masking in public bathrooms is not the worst idea, either. In this episode Dr. Oakley & Holly will go over some tips to survive this awful bug, like: Staying hydrated is key: While nauseated, sip water or an electrolyte drink every 15 to 30 minutes, and if you feel like lying down afterward, prop yourself up to reduce reflux. There’s no need to slam a liter of fluid at a time — you just want to get enough in to produce some urine at least every six hours. Wait until you have an appetite to start eating solids, and start with bland foods like bananas and dry toast. Alcohol-based sanitizer doesn’t kill norovirus all that well, so clean your hands with soap and water. And clean shared surfaces with a bleach-based product — only a few virus particles are needed to cause infection, and it can live for weeks on surfaces, so be as thorough as you can. If you develop bloody diarrhea, you can’t keep enough fluids down to make some urine, or your symptoms last longer than three days, it’s time to seek medical care. Thank you for listening. Episode 140: Can red underwear bring in a lucky New Year?

Episode 140: Can red underwear bring in a lucky New Year?

Happy 2023 LBP listeners!!! Apparently wearing only red undies in the month of January will ensure a year filled with passion and love, and wearing a pair of yellow undies will attract happiness and financial success. So you pick: for love or for money? In some countries, like Bolivia, your undies have the power to determine what the New Year may bring depending on which color you wear. Blue – harmony and health. Green – better luck than the previous year. White – peace, joy, and happiness. Orange – professional success. Purple – inspiration. Dr. Oakley & Holly chat about these interesting New Year’s tradition in this episode. Thank you for listening.
