Episode 136: Dating after 40- No glove, no love

Episode 136: Dating after 40- No glove, no love

The holiday season brings out all those holiday dinners, invites, and plus 1 invites. When it comes to those family gatherings, you hear the, you’re getting to be too old to be single noise. Now this the time of year people get sensitive about being single. Whether you are re-entering the dating scene after a long hiatus, or maybe just continuing the search for "the right one", your girlfriends, your sister and maybe your mother will have no end of advice on how to meet the love of your life. The last thing you need with a new relationship is a new infection. According to the CDC, the age group in which STI rates are rising most rapidly is adults at midlife and beyond. This is a huge surprise to many people whom seem to think that chlamydia, gonorrhea, HPV and herpes are limited to 20- and 30-year-olds that are having random hook-ups. Most guys hate using condoms - How many of those (lame) excuses have you heard? But Dr. Oakley have seen and treated a lot of infections in women who decided to skip the condom “just this once.” Do not depend on the man to be prepared. The savvy single woman keeps her own stash of male condoms on hand. Be sure they are all marked “extra-large.” *WINK* In this episode, Dr. Oakley and Holly go over some practical steps you can take to minimize your risk like: • Familiarize yourself with the most common STIs, and understand how they are transmitted. • Learn about screening and how to protect yourself, even if a condom is out of the question. • Consider getting an HPV vaccine even if you are over age 45 Thank you for listening. Episode 132: Resting Witch face

    Episode 132: Resting Witch face

Between long work days and packed calendars, it can be surprisingly easy to forget about taking care of yourself. Sometimes, when we’re feeling stressed and running around taking care of everybody else, the healthiest thing we can do is to stop and consider how we can take care of ourselves. Most women do not realize that there is such a thing as Pelvic Floor Physical therapy or why it is important to have a Healthy Pelvic Floor. Your pelvic floor muscles are responsible for everything from supporting your organs, to helping you pee and poop, to allowing for pleasurable penetrative sex, so it makes sense that you might be thrown for a loop after you pushed out a baby. Issues like muscle spasms down there are more common than you’d think, and it’s important to pay attention to your pelvic floor — especially after pregnancy. It might seem frivolous, but neglecting to slowww dowwwn and simply make time to get it checked can lead to serious resting witch face (WINK). Tried it all, and are still struggling with persistent pain? You’re not alone. Dr. Oakley & Holly will go over these intimate issues in this episode and how you can make your first appointment. If you have a subject you would like to discuss, please email your ideas to TheLadybodpod.com. Dr. Oakley wants to hear from you. Episode 130: What’s the difference between vaginal moisturizers and lubricants?

Episode 130: What’s the difference between vaginal moisturizers and lubricants?

Let’s start with the fact that vaginal moisturizers and lubricants are not the same thing. Lubricants do not alter vaginal tissues; they just provide a slippery barrier to reduce friction at the time of intercourse. A moisturizer, on the other hand, is intended to change the water content of the cells (hence “moisturizer”), resulting in tissues that are more elastic, thicker, and have the enhanced ability to produce fluid. From breastfeeding to menopause, vaginal dryness can happen at any stage in life. How can you get back to lubricating naturally? What lubricants are best for you and your body? What can your partner do to help? Vaginal moisturizers, lubricants, and vaginal estrogen can be helpful tools for improving sexual wellbeing, but how many of us know how to choose the right ones? We'll be answering these questions and more. Thank you for listening. Please send in your comments, questions and suggestions for future topics at TheLadyBodPod@gmail.com. Episode 129: MIL wants to be in delivery room: A delivery room stand-off

Episode 129: MIL wants to be in delivery room: A delivery room stand-off

Being asked to be in the delivery room with someone is a pretty high honor. In most cases, it's a partner and/or fellow parent-to-be who gets picked, so they can support their significant other and witness the birth of their child. But recently it's become increasingly common for other people to assume they'll be present during a birth. For whatever reason, mothers-in-law seem to be requesting front-row seats in the delivery room lately, and it appears that daughters-in-law everywhere are pretty much horrified by the "trend." The only person who gets to make the final decision on who is and isn’t in the delivery room is you. Dr. Oakley & Holly will chat about delivery room etiquette in this episode. Episode 126: What is toe sucking, why do people like it, and how to do it

Episode 126: What is toe sucking, why do people like it, and how to do it

It’s an incredibly intimate act and can be extremely sexy, if done right! In general, there are two types of people in this world: those who hate the idea of touching feet at all — and everyone else. If you’re happy to touch someone’s feet and, ideally, put their toes in your mouth, you’re probably into toe sucking. Toe sucking, also known as shrimping, is another form of oral sex. Instead of sucking, nibbling, and licking genitals, though, you or your partner travel farther south to your tootsies. While some people have an immediate “Ewe!” To the idea, plenty of other people love sucking on someone’s toes or getting their toes sucked. In this episode Dr. Oakley & Holly will go over these questions: • What is toe sucking? • Is toe sucking always sexual? • Do women like their toes sucked? • How to suck toes… Thank you for listening.
