How to Stop Comparing Yourself to Others: Tips for Women in Midlife

Comparisonitis can be a challenging experience for women in midlife, where they compare themselves to others and feel inadequate or unfulfilled in their own lives. In this episode, I explore practical tips and strategies to help women overcome comparisonitis and find greater contentment and fulfillment in their lives.

I start by discussing the importance of self-compassion, focusing on our own goals and values, and limiting social media use. I also emphasize the value of cultivating gratitude, building relationships with supportive people, and seeking professional help when needed.

In addition, I explore the benefits of mindfulness, embracing imperfection, and challenging negative thoughts. I highlight the importance of celebrating other people's successes, taking action towards our own goals, and practicing self-awareness to identify our triggers and cope with them effectively.

By following these tips and strategies, women in midlife can learn to break free from the cycle of comparisonitis and find greater peace and fulfillment in their own lives. Tune in to this episode for practical guidance and inspiration to overcome comparisonitis and thrive in midlife.

Thriving in Midlife: How to Navigate Life's Challenges and Achieve Your Goals with Lisa Mustard

I'm doing something a little different in this week’s episode. I’m calling it a reverse interview - instead of me being the interviewer, I'm the interviewee. Recently I had the pleasure of being on my friend Chris McDonald’s podcast, the Holistic Counseling podcast, where we talked about navigating aging and midlife with ease. She is such a great host and interviewer and I asked her if I could take the interview and add it to my episodes.

Chris just joined the PsychCraft network of podcasters - if you haven’t already checked out her show, you won’t be disappointed if holistic counseling and modalities are of interest to you!

And if you’re curious about adding holistic counseling treatments to your practice, be sure to check out her trainings. Plus you can earn continuing education contact hours.

Where to Spend Your Time in Each Phase of Building and Growing Your Private Practice with Joe Sanok

Joe Sanok is one of the OGs of private practice launching and he’s one of the first I listened to when I was considering starting my own private practice. And while I've shared with you all that private practice isn’t for me, Joe has influenced and inspired me in more ways than just that. Before I started the Therapy Show, I listened to 100s of episodes of Joe’s podcast, the Practice of the Practice before I ever hit record. And Joe has been an encouragement and supporter of my podcast and vision from the start.

I am excited to have him back on the podcast and in this episode he’s going to be sharing some wisdom and advice on where to spend your time in each phase of building and growing your private practice. So if you’re in the beginning stages of starting a solo practice or you’re well on your way to adding that next clinician to your group practice, this episode has something for anyone.

Be sure to check out www.pillarsofpractice.com where you will find FREE resources designed to help you take your private practice to the next level, whether you are just starting out or already have an established practice running.

Exploring the Four C's Self Care Model for Women Mental Health Clinicians with Dr. Karen Dyck and Dr. Melissa Tiessen

In this week's episode I interview Dr. Karen Dyck and Dr. Melissa Tiessen, two mid-career psychologists working in private practice. They founded Intentional Therapists out of a recognition that self-care is incredibly important for mental health clinicians, yet they receive little to no training in this area. The mission of Intentional Therapists is to help female mental health clinicians thrive in their professional roles and normalize self-care in all its forms. During the episode, Karen and Melissa discuss the four C's of their self-care model and how it can help female mental health clinicians move from surviving to thriving in their work and life.

Mindfulness Made Easy: Tips and Techniques for Beginners - a Put It into Practice Episode

Mindfulness Made Easy: Tips and Techniques for Beginners - a Put It into Practice Episode

I had a different topic planned for this week's PIIP episode, however it's been a tough week and I wanted to share what I do when I'm struggling with something - as it may help you too.

    It's practicing mindfulness.

    What is mindfulness?

Mindfulness is the practice of being fully present and engaged in the current moment, without judgment or distraction. It involves focusing one's attention on the present experience, including thoughts, feelings, bodily sensations, and the surrounding environment, in a non-judgmental way.

Mindfulness is often practiced through various techniques such as meditation, breathing exercises, and body scans. It has been shown to have a wide range of benefits, including reduced stress and anxiety, improved focus and concentration, increased emotional regulation, and greater overall well-being.

In this episode I share what mindfulness can help with and how you can become more mindful.

Plus learn more about the app I mention in the episode and get a free 7 day trial and a course on transforming your relationship with anxiety. https://mindfulnesscom-partner-program.pxf.io/c/3141999/1521271/16803 (affiliate link)

First Steps: Launching Your Private Practice with Milena Riservato, LMHC

First Steps: Launching Your Private Practice with Milena Riservato, LMHC

This is episode 2 in my series of interviews with therapists who are all in private practice.

The goal of this series is to share how they all built their practices. I’m asking them some big questions. From the decision to go into private practice, to how they market their services as well as obstacles they faced and things they wished they would have differently getting started. We are diving into the nitty gritty of starting a private practice. So if you’ve wondered about starting your own practice, then this series is for you.

And in this week’s episode, I'm talking with Milena Riservato, a Licensed Mental Health Counselor in New York about her path to starting and growing her practice.
