What does it mean to be untethered?

What does it mean to be untethered?

What exactly does it mean to be "untethered" and why is it something you might consider doing?

I was called to title this podcast using this word after a conversation with a mentor, who had helped me to see that it was invisible tethers that had kept (and were keeping) me from fully living my most authentic life. I was holding myself back from fully stepping into all the magic of life, because of these little worries and fears about not meeting the expectations of my family, not meeting the expectations of society, of my gender.

In short, I was worried as hell about what others thought of me. And I'm not alone. After conversation after conversation on this podcast, I hear a similar theme. It's my goal to help myself and others to intentionally untether ourselves from societal, relational, and cultural expectations and rediscover our true authenticity.

In this episode, I share one such incident - a story about how I my Christmas this year, and all the ways my tethers tried to get in the way of having the most magical experience.

Through personal tales of growth and community support, I invite you to embrace your unique brilliance. We'll explore how breathwork and affirmations can be transformative, and I'll remind you that your natural gifts are exactly what the world needs. So join me in celebrating the magic within us all, and find solace in the understanding that we're surrounded by those who believe in our potential, even when we're learning to believe in it ourselves.

Holiday Minisode 2: The power of seeing your own value

Holiday Minisode 2: The power of seeing your own value

Have you ever felt like everyone else is the star on the Christmas tree? That, someday, you'd like to earn your spot at the top, too?

Unfortunately, this feeling is completely normal. In our society, most people actually feel less valuable than others, as if you're somewhere at the bottom while others are stars shining at the top. Our obsession with hierarchy distorts our self-perception and creates unnecessary pain and suffering that we inflict on ourselves – and on others.

But let me tell you something, my friend: We're all stars at the top of the Christmas tree!!

I learned this valuable lesson about putting others on a pedestal during 2023, and it has been challenging but transformative.  Join me in this minisode where I debunk the myth of pedestal perfection.

In our discussion, we'll challenge the societal obsession with hierarchy and explore how seeing ourselves as equals can revolutionize our self-worth. We'll also delve into the ways in which elevating ourselves or others can distort your own value.

Let's walk into 2024 with a renewed sense of self-worth and a firm belief in our inherent value. It's time to shine brightly at the top of the tree, where we are all meant to be!

Holiday Minisode 1: How to be ready, all year long

Holiday Minisode 1: How to be ready, all year long

As we edge closer to the end of 2023, I've gleaned some priceless lessons from the past year – lessons that might resonate with you as you chart the course for the year ahead. Whether you're mulling over your own word of the year or setting your intentions, these pearls of wisdom can provide clarity and guidance.

This year, my chosen word of the year 'Ready' took me on a transformative journey, influencing life-altering decisions and shifting my worldview.

From saying "Yes!" to a big opportunity to making some changes in my products and offerings to grappling with the decision to take a holiday break, I've experienced many aspects of readiness and witnessed its impact on my life. This experience has enriched my understanding of the importance of heeding our inner voices, honoring our readiness, and knowing when we are more ready for a "no" than a "yes."

Also, brace yourself for my annual 'Word of the Year' party slated for early 2024 - a must-attend affair! For updates, follow me on Instagram (@untetheredjen).

Remember, readiness might not always come wrapped in certainty, but its power lies in embracing the journey it reveals.

Why does it feel like clarity is so hard to find?

In this episode, I get together with Clarity Coach and breathwork enthusiast, Jen Roth, as we share our experiences and passion for breathwork and how it helps others find clarity through our work as coaches.

We talk about how breathwork and coaching pair together like peanut butter and jelly, exploring how this somatic practice has helped us to solidify our own purpose and believe in our capabilities.

We touch on the topic of the current "certification craze" and how – while certifications can be valuable – they aren't always necessary to pass on your wisdom and practices to others. We also discuss the power of collaboration with likeminded souls who are also saying "yes!" to sharing their gifts.

Finally, we navigate through the topics of joy, teaching, and the importance of finding embodied safety. Discover how breathwork can assist us in tapping back into our natural state of happiness and gratitude, and examine how imparting what we learn deepens our own understanding – when facilitated in a safe environment.

Navigating modern spirituality with breathwork – with Ben Holt

Navigating modern spirituality with breathwork – with Ben Holt

How do breathwork and spirituality relate to one another? For those who have "lost" our religion, how do we start to navigate what spirituality really means to us?

This is, in part, what Ben Holt came on the podcast to share with us today. Ben is a breathworker and teacher whose long journey of coming home to himself laid the foundation for creating a big, beautiful impact in the world through his offerings and businesses.

In this conversation, Ben bridges ancient wisdom with modern insights to share how plant medicine, breathwork, and other holistic practices have supported him along his own spiritual journey – and how technology is part of the awakening that, in his eyes, is elevating our collective consciousness in a positive way.

We unravel the historical significance of breath in various spiritual traditions, discussing into its role as a bridge connecting the physical and spiritual worlds and the science behind intentional breathing and its profound effects on our physiology and mental well-being.

Ben sees breathwork as a potent tool for supporting people in untethering from the societal conditioning that's keeping us in a state of human suffering so we can come home to what is truly meaningful to us.

    Takeaways from this episode:

    1. If you see someone who has achieved success, there's been a decade of  doubts, fear, and unworthiness they've overcome.
    2. Despite the negativity visible in the world around us, we are evolving in an upward trend.
    3. Be open to seeing reality for what it actually is, instead of fixating on it being something familiar to you.
    4. You can experience "God" within yourself, and breathwork is a way of helping you do that.
    5. Magic is all around you, but you have to be willing to let go of everything you've been told to truly see it.

How embodied awareness can revolutionize your wellbeing – with Danny Dreyer

Is it possible that the simple act of mindful breathing can help you go the extra mile?

In this episode, I sit down with Danny Dreyer, the acclaimed author of ChiRunning and ChiWalking to explore the profound impact of mindful breath on your life. Beyond the realms of running, Dreyer's wisdom extends to the very essence of being, offering invaluable insights on how conscious breathing can revolutionize your physical, mental, and spiritual well-being.

Danny has played a key role in my own personal journey. I picked up his book, ChiRunning, around the time when I was training for my first marathon. And one tiny passage in this book around the power of presence while running set course for countless things that have unfolded in my own life. (Including finishing that marathon – with a smile on my face!)

Danny Dreyer takes us on an exploration of the intersection between mindful breath and life's most profound experiences. ChiRunning, inspired by the principles of Tai Chi, goes far beyond running. It serves as a gateway to a life where balance, harmony, and presence are at the forefront.

    In this episode, you'll uncover:

    • How mindful breath, as a central component of ChiRunning, can transcend the act of running and become a transformative tool for everyday life.
    • Techniques for harnessing the power of conscious breath to manage stress, anxiety, and cultivate emotional resilience.
    • Practical insights into the synergy between body and breath, creating an experience of flow and balance.
    • Tips for embracing a more mindful, purposeful existence
    • Personal stories and experiences that illustrate the profound impact of mindful breath on one's life.

Healing pain and the neuroscience of breathwork – with Andrea Freemyer

Healing pain and the neuroscience of breathwork – with Andrea Freemyer

How does someone with a PhD in neuroscience come to be completely enamored by the body?

Meet Andrea Freemyer, PhD,  a trauma-informed breathwork facilitator, embodiment coach, nervous system educator and nature connection guide. She also happens to be one of my mentors!

Through her studies to become a PhD in Neuroscience, Andrea discovered that pain and trauma live in the body and that sustainable healing happens not at the level of the mind, but in the re-patterning of the nervous system and the depths of body connection. When the body heals, the mind follows.

As she was beginning to awaken more deeply to what  this means for every human, the very foundation of Andrea's own life was shaken. With a young son at home to care for, her husband died by suicide. In her intense suffering, Andrea had nowhere to turn but inward, and that's where she found the answer.

It was through this process of facing her own pain that Andrea discovered just how disconnected she'd been from her own feelings. She realized she had forgotten how to love and connect. Through a courageous journey, Andrea learned to heal her complicated grief with the power of her own presence.

This story sets the tone for the deeper dive Andrea brings about the science behind breathwork, and how we can leverage this powerful, built-in tool to come back home to ourselves, to learn to love, and to connect in ways we may currently feel too scared or vulnerable to accomplish.

    Listen in to hear:

    • The science behind breathwork and how it supports your health through nervous system regulation
    • The power of presence in healing deep trauma and pain
    • Why embodiment practices like breathwork are so desperately needed right now
