Anxiety Unveiled: Managing Anxiety as a High-Achieving Working Mother

Anxiety Unveiled: Managing Anxiety as a High-Achieving Working Mother

Today, we want to delve into a topic that resonates deeply with many of us - anxiety.

Specifically, we will be focusing on high functioning anxiety and how it affects high achievers, overachievers, and those who strive for excellence in their personal and professional lives.

I had the pleasure of welcoming Dr. Jodi Richardson, a renowned expert in well-being science and the author of "Anxious Kids" and "Anxious Mums." Dr. Richardson shares her insights, experiences, and strategies for managing anxiety in a way that empowers us all.

During the conversation, Dr. Richardson sheds light on the science behind anxiety and how it manifests in different individuals. We will explore the physical and psychological symptoms that accompany anxiety, as well as the impact of anxiety on our well-being and energy levels.

As working mothers, we often find ourselves juggling numerous responsibilities, both at home and in the workplace. The pressures and demands can sometimes lead to feelings of overwhelm and stress. By understanding how anxiety affects us, we can better navigate these challenges and find a sense of balance.

One aspect that Dr. Richardson will discuss is the concept of sensory thresholds. While traditionally associated with individuals on the autism spectrum, sensory thresholds are something that all of us possess. The low threshold for noise, for example, that Dr. Richardson mentions can be relatable for many working mothers who crave moments of peace and quiet amidst the chaos.

Additionally, we will explore the different states of the nervous system - the ventral vagal (rest and digest), sympathetic (fight or flight), and dorsal vagal (shutdown, freeze, numbing, dissociation). Understanding these states can help us recognise when we are experiencing anxiety and take steps to regulate our nervous system, shifting back into the restorative ventral vagal state.

Dr. Richardson provides practical strategies for managing anxiety, such as engaging in a morning routine, incorporating physical movement, and utilising our senses to shift our attention from worry to our bodies.

We believe that Dr. Richardson's insights will not only resonate with high achievers seeking guidance but will also be valuable to anyone curious about understanding and managing anxiety. Furthermore, her unique blend of professionalism and relatability will provide a refreshing perspective in the mental health space.

Together, we can navigate the challenges of anxiety and thrive in our roles as working mothers.

How Do You Manage It All? Empowered Work-Life Integration As A Working Mum

How Do You Manage It All? Empowered Work-Life Integration As A Working Mum

In this episode, I'm diving into a common question that working mothers face: "How do you manage it all?"

The juggling act of balancing work, family, and your personal life.

It’s a tricky question to explore because it can be a loaded question.

It’s not a question that men get asked.

It’s certainly not a question that working fathers get asked.

Probably because traditionally, the answer for most men on how they ‘manage it all’ would be because they had a wife at home doing everything.

Their wife would be holding the emotional and mental load of the family and home for them.

But I think it’s an important question for us to ask our fellow working mums because with more mothers working than ever - how we balance our work and home responsibilities is a sticking point for so many of us.

Asking the question makes the invisible visible.

Seeing how we each navigate the invisible load - either normalising that it’s not easy or learning from each other.

I’m approaching this question from the perspective that if most working mums still carry the majority of the family and domestic responsibilities, how do we navigate our careers in a way that supports us to thrive?

Seeds of Change: How Small Actions Can Create a Positive Legacy in the Workplace

Ever felt the sense that gender inequality in the workplace is somehow our fault as women?

    We often hear:

    We’re not confident enough.
We let imposter syndrome hold us back.

Well, today’s guest is here to change that narrative.

My guest is Joy Burnford, the author of the thought-provoking book, "Don't Fix Women."

Joy challenges the prevailing narrative surrounding gender equality, urging us to shift our focus from changing women to transforming the systems that hold us back.

Join us as we delve into the concepts and practical strategies presented in her book, and explore how we can create a more inclusive and empowering world for all.

How I've Stepped Up To Be the CEO In My Business And Life: Behind The Scenes With My Business Manager Lauren Fenn-Ellis

Let me take you behind the scenes!

In my latest podcast episode, l share my journey from solo entrepreneur to building a dream team and how it has transformed my life and business with the help of my incredible business manager Lauren Fenn-Ellis.

In this revealing conversation episode Lauren and I discuss how I've stepped up to be the CEO in both my business and life. Here are 3 key takeaways from our conversation:

1️⃣ How to build a dream team.  Exploring culture, values, clear communication and project management systems. We discuss the importance of setting expectations and how it helps streamline processes.

2️⃣ You don't need to have a podcast or a business to benefit from hiring support. We explore how the mental load of tasks and responsibilities affects everyone, and how hiring support professionally or personally can help you to step up to be the CEO of your life.

3️⃣ Automation and delegation are game-changers. We talk about how eliminating tasks without a return on value and questioning our involvement in certain areas can free up time and energy for what truly matters.

Tune in to the episode to hear more about Lauren's role as a Chief Operating Officer (COO) in my business.

Plus, she shares a valuable holiday packing list system as a free download! Trust me, even if you don't have your own business, you'll gain wisdom and inspiration from this episode. Don't miss it!

Fatherhood Matters - Insights From A Solo Father

Fatherhood Matters - Insights From A Solo Father

Here at Wisdom For Working Mums you obviously hear me talk a lot about mothers.

But a huge part of our experience is influenced by gender and societal roles.  The research shows that if we can achieve more equal parenting then the gender pay gap and the motherhood penalty reduce significantly.

To celebrate Father's Day I wanted to give a voice to fatherhood.  And how those gender roles influence a dad’s experience.

And my guest today has powerful insights to share. Michael Ray is an international motivational speaker who addresses the gender and societal roles that are no longer applicable and the negative impact on organisational, business and personal outcomes. He speaks straight from the heart and his ability to connect, resonate and inspire people is obvious.
