How To Stop Burnout Before It Starts

How To Stop Burnout Before It Starts
We know burnout is on the rise for working mothers.  In fact, the data is pretty damning.

Sadly too many women are on the road to burnout or are just a breath away from it.  But most of them don't even realise it.

All too often it takes hitting the brick burnout wall for us to realise.  By that time it's too late.

So how can we actually stop burnout before it starts?

My guest is here to tell us how.  As a burnout survivor, Dr Jacqueline Kerr left her position as a public health professor in 2018 after her burnout experience and is now on a mission to dismantle the causes of working mother burnout.

Her TEDx talk provides solutions that we can all use to change the social norms around burnout and I’m delighted that she’s here to share these insights with you.

Her 20-year experience as a behavioural scientist combined with her own personal burnout experience means that Dr Kerr has a powerful perspective on burnout that you're going to want to hear.

The Power Of You - How One Woman's Quest To Reconnect With Herself Led To Huge Business Success

The Power Of You - How One Woman's Quest To Reconnect With Herself Led To Huge Business Success

She went from stay-at-home mum of 25 years to successful business owner in just 5 years!

It’s easy to lose yourself in motherhood and fall into the unhelpful narrative that being a mother disadvantages you in your career and in business.  But today’s guest is here to prove the motherhood advantage - that the skills we pick up in motherhood allow us to become exceptional business leaders.

Today I’m joined by Maxine Laceby the Founder and CEO of Absolute Collagen.

Maxine went from stay-at-home mother of twenty-five years, to boiling up bones at her kitchen table for the collagen benefits, to a leading beauty entrepreneur. She has taken the market by storm, building a credible and ever-growing beauty business, turning over £1M in just one short year, and over £20M just a few years later.

Maxine runs the business with the help of her two daughters and they now enjoy the massive success that they built from their family kitchen table.

I’m delighted that Maxine joins us today to share all about why she thinks the skills we pick up in motherhood make us brilliant in business.

    What About The Dads?

    What About The Dads?

    What about the dads?

Recent research shows that 1 in 10 new dads will experience some symptoms of post-natal depression and 39% of expectant dads are concerned about their mental health.

The mental health of men is still overlooked with suicide remaining the biggest killer of men under the age of 45, and 12.5% of men in the UK suffering from depression and anxiety.

New dads are particularly vulnerable as financial and work pressures coupled with a huge life change can have a significant impact. Dad’s poor mental health negatively impacts support for mothers and the development of children.

So today’s conversation is a much-needed one. My guest is Elliott Rae.

Elliott is an author, speaker and founder of MusicFootballFatherhood the UK’s most exciting parenting and lifestyle platform for men.

Elliott is encouraging open conversations about fatherhood. His book Dad; Untold Stories of Fatherhood, Love, Mental Health and Masculinity is a must-read. Each chapter is a story from a different dad and takes you on a journey - each dad bears his soul and they are deeply personal stories.

Elliott was diagnosed with PTSD after the traumatic birth of his daughter. It’s that experience that has led him to dedicate his life’s work to creating spaces for more open conversations around fatherhood and changing the narrative..

This episode launches on Father’s Day week in the UK and this is the most incredible way to acknowledge and celebrate fathers and I can’t wait to dive into this conversation.

What Do You See When You Look Up? Why Positive Working Mother Role Models Are Vital

What Do You See When You Look Up? Why Positive Working Mother Role Models Are Vital

I pulled the ripcord on my career.

It was only years later that I realised what influenced me to leave a highly lucrative career that I was succeeding in.

I didn’t like what I saw when I looked up.

What I mean by that is that I couldn’t see female leaders that represented how I envisaged my life to be.

In this episode, I share the personal impact of not having positive working mother role models.  I explore why it's vital for organisations to support and promote them too.

Let’s give ourselves, and others, relatable, positive and attainable role models for when we look up.

Because our daughters are looking up too.

7 Things Not To Say To A Working Mother - The Common Ways Motherhood Bias Shows Up In The Workplace

7 Things Not To Say To A Working Mother - The Common Ways Motherhood Bias Shows Up In The Workplace
Motherhood or maternal bias is believed to be the strongest form of gender bias.

Motherhood triggers false assumptions that women are less committed to their careers and even less competent.

It’s not only damaging if you’re a working mother but also if you’re a leader in an organisation where these unconscious biases are being lived out.

So in this episode, we’re going to be exploring what maternal bias is and the common ways it shows up in the workplace. And what do if you experience it or see it happening to others.

This episode celebrates International Women's Day 2022 which is all about #breakingthebias

Your Ideal Week - How to Set Yourself Up For Success Even If You Don't Enjoy Goal Setting

Your Ideal Week - How to Set Yourself Up For Success Even If You Don't Enjoy Goal Setting

I used to have a guilty secret. That secret is I hate goal setting. I really don’t enjoy it. And I rarely do it.
I know it’s weird for a coach to admit right?

But having a direction in which you’re heading is really powerful - I think we can all probably agree with that.

The old - “if you don’t know where you’re going you can end up anywhere” - quote.

So for a few years, I beat myself up about not enjoying or wanting to set goals. At times I forced myself to do goal setting but it just felt really inauthentic and incongruent.

And I’ve got big dreams, hopes and intentions. So how do you create a life you love if you don't set goals??!?

That’s what I’m going to be exploring in this episode. I’m going to be sharing an alternative approach if you too don’t get fired up about goal setting.

It’s based on an exercise I did with my first ever executive coach nearly 20 years ago now and it’s no underestimate to say it was life-changing - and I don’t use that term lightly as I know it’s one that can be thrown around.

This podcast episode is for you if you want to approach 2022 (or anytime if you’re not listening when this launches in January) in a way that gives you the freedom to rise above all the noise of new year’s resolutions and really focus on what’s important to you in your life and work.

If you head to www.wisdomforworkingmums.co.uk/74 you can find a download that goes along with this episode.

    Life Lessons From 2021

    Life Lessons From 2021

It would be easy to just walk away from this year and close the door on it without looking back, hoping that I never have another year like this again.

But as difficult as it has been, there have been some deeply profound and important lessons that I want to take from this year. And my guess is that it's the same for you too.

If I walked away without reflecting on them I'd lose the goodness in those lessons, and I didn't want to do that.

So come join me in my last podcast of 2021 as I share my life lessons.

You can listen to the episode here: https://wisdomforworkingmums.co.uk/73 or via itunes, stitcher or spotify. Or you can find it on most other podcast platforms and apps.

I hope that they help you reflect on your year too. So we can carry what we need to into 2022 and leave behind what we need to as well.

    In this episode I share:

How this year has made me rethink resilience

How I'm focussing on doing less but better

My experience in creating space for just me

How I'm moving from 'powerful effort' to 'effortless power' in 2022 and beyond

I hope you enjoy listening to this episode and it provides you with some useful insights into your own life lessons for 2022.

Wishing you hope, health and happiness for the year ahead.
