George Lucas's 1st AFIer is a lot more grounded than his most famous one, but it was a monster success all its own. The young cast (many first-timers) is uniformly excellent and the soundtrack is just lovely. Rev up your little deuce coupe for T100P podcast #86 while percolating that java juice from Sparkplug Coffee!

Opening with a standard penned by Doc Pomus and Phil Spector for Ben E. King, this selection of (mostly) covers released in 1962 shows once again that classics are timeless. The sixties are still in the early stages and the global vibe is swinging, just starting to get a little poppy, as you'll discover while listening to the calypso, blues, soul, jazz and latin musical arrangements we've picked here. Pass the word if you like the series, we'll be back with a new episode by the end of next week...

Gregory Peck stars in this much-loved coming-of-age tale, our 64th podcast in the T100P. His kid costars (Mary Badham and Philip Alford) are the focus of the story, but good performances abound. The AFI reveres this picture. How about the Ellises?

    Lawrence Of Arabia

A white madman embeds himself amongst warring Arab tribes during WW1. What can go wrong? So, so much. But the movie makes for a beloved AFI favourite. Peter O’Toole is outstanding in director David Lean’s hands. We, however, had trouble sorting out our feelings about this sandy epic. Find out why!

    Almanac 621209 Alan Young

    Almanac 621209 Alan Young

A lengthy interview by well known news man, Walter O'Keefe. Discover some of the history of actor and comedian, Alan Young. At the time of this interview he was the star of the television program, Mister Ed. Listeners to the Retro Radio Podcast have heard Alan Young as featured in his own radio program. I would play him more often, but there arn't many of his radio shows out there, and I'm pacing myself.

Originally formatted for a 2 hour broadcast, commercials, and station breaks have been edited out by a previous transcriber. Still it runs about 1 hour, 15 minutes. The format is to interview Alan at the top of the half hour, then go to music from 1947. Walter O'Keefe's interview covers Alan Young's early history, and his early career as a teenager. Also anecdotes of the show biz life, and wierd first jobs that Alan had. In a final segment Alan returns to tell about his musical ability, and some behind the scenes glimpses of his TV show. The show wraps up with a last tune, and Walter signs off with a deep thought to live by. He puts it so much more eloquently, but basically, "Don't long for what you don't have, and learn to enjoy what you do have."

    Bonus Tracks:
None Today, the show is long, and already has music interspersed throughout.

PS: I want to add that this is a rare show. There aren't any other recordings of the Almanac program that I know of, and interviews are always good for sharing rare, candid moments
