    26. Mapping the India - China border

    26. Mapping the India - China border

Aeronautical engineer and retired test pilot Joseph Thomas talks to host Pavan Srinath about aerial survey and mapping of the India-China border, about the evolution of mapping technology in the subcontinent, and about the longest contested border in the world.

Mr Thomas discusses how maps were drawn and land was measured between the 19th century and today, the advent of aerial mapping in India, to where we are today. He elaborates on his time in aerial mapping using Canberra aircraft, a time when India had better maps of the border areas and a technological lead over China for almost two decades. He also discusses how international borders are delineated and demarcated, and provides context for the full long India-China border, as well as the Line of Actual Control in Ladakh.

Joseph Thomas is an Indian Air Force pilot who flew transport and logistics during the 1962 Indo-China War. From 1967 to 1971 he flew in the reconnaissance and aerial survey squadron, taking part in border surveys, and aerial mapping of the entire country. He is also a test pilot and helped start the Indian Air Force Test Pilot School. He retired as a Wing Commander in 1984, and was awarded a Vayu Sena Medal.

    Hell Is For Heroes

In our discussion of "Hell Is for Heroes" (1962), we talk about the repercussions of the “replacement soldier” during the stalemate warfare on the Siegfried Line in 1944. Listen as we discuss the accuracy of this forgotten film that depicts the overlooked 95th Infantry Division.

    Green Book

    Green Book

"Controversy Month" begins with this Next 160 Project podcast as we cover a clumsy flick about a virulent racist learning to respect at least 1 (brilliant) black person. Green Book was popular with a lot of people and even won the Best Picture Oscar for Peter Farrelly. Yup, the guy who made Dumb And Dumber. And, yes, it’s got some winning qualities as the actors, particularly Mahershala Ali, do some lovely work. Well, the usually reliable Viggo Mortensen…not so much. The fact is, this Driving Miss Daisy for the 2010s is even more inadequate than last year’s Best Picture winner, The Shape Of Water. At least it provided us with an epic amount on which to chew—and even argue about—as Ryan plays devil’s advocate to Bev’s SJW. There’s also a Roma-inspired “home v theatre” rant at the end that Ryan has been thinking about for months. So steal a rock from a roadside vendor and gnaw on a whole pizza as we devour the movie that showed the world that racism was solved way back in 1962.

Death by Regulation w/ Dr. Mary Ruwart (EP 36)

Death by Regulation w/ Dr. Mary Ruwart (EP 36)

Death by Regulation: How We Were Robbed of a Golden Age of Health and How We Can Reclaim It In 1962, Congress passed possibly the deadliest regulations of all time: the 1962 Amendments to the Food & Drug Act. This “living law” continues to metastasize to this day, reshaping the pharmaceutical cartel, the supplement industry, the practice of medicine and transforming our health care paradigm from prevention to treatment. Research shows at least half of Americans who have died since 1962 lost about 10 years of their lives to the Amendments; in all likelihood, each of us has been affected. Dr. Ruwart's new book, Death by Regulation, is now available for purchase through Amazon or Death by Regulation Website Learn why Congress passed the Amendments in the first place? Have they made a difference? Find out how The Amendments added about 10 years to the time it takes for new drugs to get from the lab bench to the marketplace. They destroyed over 50% of our innovations and censored the dissemination of life-saving information. Dr. Mary J. Ruwart is a research scientist, ethicist, and a libertarian author/activist. She received her B.S. in biochemistry in 1970 and her Ph.D. in Biophysics in 1974. As a senior research scientist at UpJohn, Dr. Ruwart was involved in developing new therapies for a variety of diseases, including liver cirrhosis and AIDS. Dr. Ruwart left Upjohn in 1995 to devote her time to consulting and writing. She teaches communications courses for scientists and provides consulting services for nutraceutical companies, clinical research organizations, and universities. Dr. Mary Ruwart served with the Center for Applied and Professional Ethics at the Univ of N Carolina, designing a medical research ethics course for the University. Her radical application of ethics to medical regulation, especially regulations regarding pharmaceuticals, has life-and-death-implications. Since 1982, Dr. Ruwart has also been involved in societal ethics with a focus on the political theory and practice of libertarianism. Her award-winning international best-selling book, Healing Our World, demonstrates how the ethical application of libertarian principles has historically created harmony and abundance. Referencing hundreds of studies, Dr. Ruwart demonstrates that many of our current policies surreptitiously violate the basic ethical standards that we hold dear, thereby leading to unintended—and highly undesirable—consequences. Over the last three decades, Dr. Ruwart has often run for public office as a Libertarian Candidate, primarily to educate voters on the impact of ethical choices on their personal and financial well-being. Mary's 1st book: Healing Our World: The Compassion of Libertarianism Dr. Ruwart’s international best-selling book integrates the morality of Christianity, the ethical compassion of the liberal, the self-responsibility of New Age spirituality, and the practicality of real world politics to take the libertarian ideal to the next level. Rainbow Valley - Episode 013

1962 – A year of worldwide upheaval, the continuing space race and the death of Hollywood’s biggest sex symbol.

The year would witness one of the most devastating air disasters as an Air France Boeing 707 would crash in Paris, John Glen would become the first American to orbit the earth and Albert Sabin would develop the first oral polio vaccine.

Algeria Burundi and Jamaica would all gain their independence this year and the Telstar satellite would provide eth first live transatlantic television pictures.

Along with an escape from Alcatraz, the A6 murders and Cuban Missile Crisis bringing the world closer than it’s ever been to all out nuclear war, the soundtrack of the  year was provided by Elvis Presley, Cliff Richard and The Tornadoes, oh and a certain group from Liverpool released their first major single this year as well.

Ladies and gentlemen, Rainbow Valley is proud to present the story of the hits and headlines of 1962.
