Ep. 213: Sumthin' Smells Funky Vol. 8! - White Pepper

Welcome back my friends to Ep. 213 of the InObscuria Podcast! Last week one of your esteemed co-hosts mentioned that he was going to start a new funk rock band called White Pepper… We thought this week would pontificate about what that group will sound like! We will once again explore all things FUNKY! Let your body move and your asses groove as we get down with some badass funk rock!

What is it that we do here at InObscuria? Besides eating pop-tarts, we exhume obscure Rock n' Punk n' Metal in one of 3 categories: the Lost, the Forgotten, or the Should Have Beens. In this episode, we take a listen to all 3, as we move n’ groove our way through funk-infused rock n’ roll. This genre has a special meaning to the hosts, as they have dabbled in this funkdafied landscape throughout their musical journeys.

    Songs this week include:

    November 7, 2023: Midday News
New York City is moving migrants out of city shelters to make room for new arrivals. But it's unclear where the displaced migrants will end up. Meanwhile, it's Election Day in New York State. Long Island's Suffolk County is set to get a new county executive for the first time in 12 years. Finally, the summer concert series at Forest Hills Stadium is over, but nearby neighborhoods remain divided over whether the open-air stadium should continue hosting shows amid a slew of noise complaints. WNYC’s Ramsey Khalifeh has more.

    October 16, 2023: Midday News
Governor Kathy Hochul plans to travel to Israel for what she calls a "solidarity mission" as the Israel-Hamas war intensifies. Also, New York state will now let you buy a bottle of liquor on Sunday mornings as WNYC's Jon Campbell reports. Authorities say a train hit and killed a teenager this morning in Queens after appearing to faint and fall on the tracks. Plus, police in Summit, New Jersey are warning residents to stay vigilant after a rabid fox may have attacked three dogs. Finally, Councilmember Keith Powers, representing some of the loudest neighborhoods in Manhattan, recently released a report looking at noise pollution. That report  found one-third of 311 calls in the first quarter of this year were for noise complaints. Now, after proposing several laws to combat the noise, Councilmember Powers joins to discuss how it would work.

    Digitalisierung 2.0 - jetzt nachhaltig gedacht (mrmcd23)

The Week That Was and That Will Be - July 24

In this week's episode of myBurbank Talks, hosts Craig Sherwood and Ross Benson unpack the major happenings from the week of July 18 and forecast what's coming in the week ahead. They dive into the gripping LAPD pursuit, where officers were injured in an encounter with a carjacker.

Also, they discuss the decision to keep the number of Infrastructure Committee members unchanged and the election of new commissioners and board members.

On Wednesday, they cover the Police Commission meeting where Sgt. Fletcher Stone presented on E-bikes. Our hosts ponder a potential recommendation to the City Council about bikes on sidewalks, and note an upcoming community event, "Take a Scoop out of Crime," at Foster Freeze.

Thursday's episode brings insights into the school board's decision on contracts, raises, and coaches' summer salaries.

They also share a preview of the coming week, which includes a Planning Commission meeting on Monday, City Council's Tuesday meeting on watering restrictions, leasing decisions, and public hearings. Additionally, they announce the grand opening of Cypher VR Escape Rooms, an advisory council on Disabilities meeting, and an informational meeting about three SB35 residential projects.

The hosts wrap up the podcast with their Pet Peeves segment, discussing traffic issues around a local Starbucks and providing a solution to weed abatement, thanks to a message from Karen.

Digital Infrastructure and Innovation with Kelly Jin

Digital Infrastructure and Innovation with Kelly Jin

In this episode of the Data-Smart City Pod, Professor Steve Goldsmith interviews Kelly Jin, Vice President for Community and National Initiatives at the Knight Foundation and former Chief Analytics Officer for the city of New York. They discuss the recent Infrastructure Innovation Summit, cohosted by the Knight Foundation and Data-Smart City Solutions at Harvard University, where folks from cities across the country convened with leaders in the federal, private, and academic spheres to discuss the future of urban environments. Jin also talks about why cities must start with the question "what are we trying to achieve?" before collecting data and implementing new technology, in order to remain resident-focused.

This week Mark and Allen break down the Episode where Ron finally meets Diane, This Ben and April decide to take a Road Trip to Pawnee, and  Leslie tries to pass her "Fun in the Sun" act. Unfortunately, a combination of garish rouge blush, a very common DC event, and a self-centered Councilman/Dentist put a crimp in everyone's respective plans!

Tune in to hear the guys cover Potholes, Princesses,  Presidential motorcades and Invisalign's as they walk us through this classic Season 5 Episode: "How a Bill Becomes a Law"! You'll be glad you did!

Ep. 137: Genres From The Netherworld ...continued

Ep. 137: Genres From The Netherworld ...continued

This week we leave you pondering: these genres that can’t possibly be real; right? Humans love to organize and put things in categories. Music is no different. When someone asks about a band or song they ask you what it sounds like. You can either give them a generic term (rock, punk, metal), refer to another band or artist, or provide them with an oddly specific categorization like psychedelic operatic speed ska… Or something like that!

What’s this InObscuria thing? We’re a podcast that exhumes obscure Rock n' Punk n' Metal and puts them in one of 3 categories: the Lost, the Forgotten, or the Should Have Beens. This episode deals more with the Lost… Genres and sub-genres that are truly unique and oddly specific. We hope we turn you on to something new!

    Songs this week include:

    1. Dirty Rig – “Just A Star” from Rock Did It (2006)
    2. Raging Slab – “The Shield” from Assmaster (1987)
    3. Valient Thorr – “Stormstris” from Legend Of The World (2006)
    4. Dash Rip Rock – “Jenny Says” from Ace Of Clubs (1989)
    5. 2 Skinnee J’s - “Mind Trick” from ¡$Uper! Mercado (1998)
    6. 16 Horsepower – “Haw” from 16 Horsepower (1995)
    7. Boris – “Pink” from Pink (2009)

PolyCoin - A distributed game across MCH. The history at EMF Camp 2018 and 2022, and how it was made and works. See what is on the inside of the PolyCoin crypto miner devices, and why they were designed the way they were and what had to be compromised along the way, what can be improved, and plans for future versions. PolyCoin - is a game being deployed at MCH 2022, you'll see the PolyCoin crypto miner units installed throughout the site. This game involves "capturing" the crypto miners using an RFID card to collect the fictional crypto currency PolyCoin. Each player selects one of four fictional global corporations to support, and captures the crypto miners for their chosen company producing PolyCoins for them. The company with the most PolyCoins wins! Delving in to the brief history of the game at EMF Camp 2018 and 2022, and then explaining how it works and the various bits hang together to create the overall game. Covering PICmicro, ESP8285 (micropython), DFR0299, RC522 RFID, MQTT, Python on Raspberry Pi, and the hidden features of the game waiting to be discovered. I'll cover the problems with the original game deployed in EMF 2018 and how they were addressed with the PolyCoin game in 2022. Then the problems encountered in 2022 at EMF camp (far less issues!). This would ideally be suited to having this presentation followed by a hands-on session to see the parts that make the game. I should have enough bits to run a workshop as well to build a PolyCoin crypto miner unit, including surface mount and hand soldering all the parts and assembling the units themselves. about this event: https://program.mch2022.org/mch2022/talk/CRHHCU/
