Ann Patchett and Tracy Sorensen on famous friends and talking organs
American author Ann Patchett believes contentment is a radical idea in today's busy world and in her latest novel Tom Lake reflects on the joy of stillness. Also when Tracy Sorensen's novel about cancer, The Vitals, was published Tracy was given the terrible news that her own cancer has re-emerged. She is now undergoing chemotherapy while spruiking her book.
Catching Up with Liz and Amy
In this episode Dr. Liz Stephens and Amy Stockwell chat about various fascinating topics that include the frustrations of low blood sugars, the new Dexcom 7, the pending holidays and must read books by some of our favorite authors! During the episode we mention a few things that I want to clarify for those who get confused...
First, Liz refers to a recent episode of the podcast (and fantastic resource) Diabetes Connections with author Stacey Simms who talks in depth about the dexcom 7.
Liz also recommends the book These Precious Days by one of our favorite authors, Ann Patchett, who is the co-owner of the amazing Parnassus Books in Nashville, TN, a must visit for any of you who live in the area.
Finally, I embarrass myself by butchering the title of Barbara Kingsolver's latest novel Demon Copperhead. One of my favorite books of the year!
We'll be back after the holidays with more compelling conversations, stay tuned!
EP125|童年的傷,時間會記住:《倖存之家》|誠品選書
EP2: New mysteries, re-visiting Amor Towles, romance novels in the Indian diaspora - and why are there no Thanksgiving books?
In this episdoe, just back from the New England Crime Bake, Hannah and Sam discuss the mysteries they're reading (not "sexy mysteries"), Sam's dip into "The Lincoln Highway," the new Louise Erdrich (Hannah's first!), romance novels set in the Indian Diaspora (with a segue into "Never Have I Ever"), the new Ann Patchett, and then a bunch of stuff about why there aren't any big Thanksgiving books or really any cultural artifacts.
Oh, and Ursula Le Guin's book is called "No Time to Spare" and Louise Erdich's is called "Future Home of the Living God" (which Sam was not even close to getting right in real time).

Episode 15: Ann Patchett + J. Courtney Sullivan (September 19, 2016)
On the publication date of her seventh novel Commonwealth, author and bookseller Ann Patchett (Bel Canto, Run, State of Wonder, etc.) launched the book onstage with her friend J. Courtney Sullivan (The Engagements, etc.). The conversation touched on the joys and pitfalls of first chapters, Ann's mother's take on the new novel ("None of it happened and all of it is true"), the freedom Patchett learned from Catholicism, engaging with the Nashville community as a retailer vs. as an artist, and a lot of really great book recommendations.
