Oriana Fox interviews the activist, artist, mother, educator and Labour councillor Lena Šimić. Oriana gets some practical advice about how to become more politically active while balancing the demands of work, motherhood and art. Environmentalism and anti-capitalism are two of the causes that have occupied Šimić, so they discuss how she has tackled these issues creatively and within family life.

Murray Bookchin: Can We Effect Meaningful Change in an Anti-Ecological Society?

Murray Bookchin: Can We Effect Meaningful Change in an Anti-Ecological Society?

The Lindisfarne Tapes are selected recordings of presentations and conversations at the Lindisfarne Fellows’ meetings. In March of 2013 William Thompson granted permission to the Schumacher Center for a New Economics to transfer the talks from the old reel-to-reel tapes to digital format so that they could be posted online and shared freely. In 2021, the Schumacher Center used the digital audio to create the Lindisfarne Tapes Podcast. Reposting should include acknowledgment of williamirwinthompson.org. Learn more about the Lindisfarne Tapes here.

Bookchin delivered this lecture in 1976 at the Lindisfarne Spring Fellows Meeting, "Economics and the Moral Order."

    Consumer Activism

    Consumer Activism

Consumer activism is when a person attempts to reinforce their moral callings through their consumption. They don’t just consider the good by itself, they take into consideration where their money is going, who it supports, and how it is used. It comes in the forms of buying from brands that you agree with or boycotting the ones you don’t.

In this episode, Hillary and Erika discuss the differences between B Corporations and Fair Trade, dive into a little history on boycotts, and talk about ways to be more conscious in everyday consumption.

#92 "Circles and the Other C-Word" with Artist and Advisor Sadee Brathwaite + Artist and Activist Rakel Stammer

#92 "Circles and the Other C-Word" with Artist and Advisor Sadee Brathwaite + Artist and Activist Rakel Stammer

    Hey listeners!

Today's first guest is Sadee Brathwaite, an Artist and Minister/Priestess of Maåt. She makes drawings and paintings, figurative and abstract, about archetypes, symbols, ancient cosmologies, beliefs and myths. As an ordained Minister/Priestess, She advises people in life, in creativity, and in spirituality. Her calling, either through art or advising, is to help people heal and grow as spiritual, enlightened beings. We talk about how her art and her church were the things that brought her joy and comfort as a young person who moved from Barbados to the US at a young age, how her spirituality has evolved over the years, the sacred feminine and sacred symbolism that appear in her art, finding Ione and the Ministry of Maat, mysticism, and how it all comes together beautifully to complete the picture of her work and her life's purpose.

My second guest is Rakel Stammer, an artist who primarily works in painting and drawing, but also dabbles in sound, installation, collage, writing, photography, printmaking and performance. Her work has been published in several magazines, anthologies and journals across the world and she has exhibited in Denmark, Sweden and the U.S. She recently completed a residency at the Women’s Studio Workshop and will be exhibiting her series “The Cunt Drawings” completed during a residency at Deer Creek Collective in November at @sassafrasny in Kingston, NY. Rakel speaks publicly and writes about capitalism, art, trauma, dominance and violence, seen through an anti-capitalist, intersectional feminist lens...all things we talk about today on the show!

Today’s show was engineered by Maddy Bogner of Radio Kingston, www.radiokingston.org.
