For years, “restaurant brands” meant chains like McDonald’s or TGI Fridays.

Not any more.

In today’s fast-paced, hyper-digitalised world, every restaurant is a brand — whether it likes it or not.

In episode 5 of The Recipe, we explore the consequences of this shift.

We hear from a Danish brand director who says that any restaurant with a higher sense of purpose is a brand — and that it should be reflected in everything it does.

We sit down with the creative director of one of Scandinavia’s most sustainable restaurant groups to talk about the challenges of offering plant-based fine-dining.

And we engage in a little “toilet talk” with an expert in brand experience who explains why a restaurant’s bathroom should never be an afterthought.

In this relaunch of a series introduced last year, we are looking this episode at Noah.  Noah may seem like this larger than life character in the Bible.  An ark, a flood, a rainbow, and a charge to repopulate and fill the Earth.  It is popular in some circles to dismiss some Old Testament Bible stories (like Noah) as mere mythological fantasies.  Stories that became tall tales, but didn't actually happen. 

But consider if Noah actually did happen and that his context wasn't so different than what we experience today.  A man righteous before God but living amongst wicked people.  A man obedient to God to build and ark and prepare...for what was next.  A man who was rewarded for his obedience by the Lord by being shut in the ark, just him and his family.  There's a lot we can learn from Noah as we live in a time that looks a lot like his day.  Wickedness and a growing apathy or even opposition to Godly things are all around us.  Noah is a bold man and another profile in courage worth our examination today.

Sin always has consequences. Sin brings degradation. Sin brings humiliation. Sin brings condemnation. But while sin always has consequences, God always has purposes. 

If you want the key that unlocks the unity of the one story the whole Bible is telling, that key is COVENANT.

The story of Noah and the ark is really a story of God and his grace.

By grace, God saved, sustained, and sent Noah.

By grace, God saves, sustains, and sends us, too! 

God's grace precedes righteousness, it provides relationship, and it produces faith and obedience. 

Have you ever asked that question? Abraham did. At the destruction of Sodom and Gomorrah, Abraham asked God, "will you destroy the righteous with the wicked". Will not the God of Righteousness do what is right?
The last piece of our series "is this the end times", deals with this question. Jesus said as it was in the days of Noah, and in the days of Lot, so will it be with the coming of the Son of Man. We look at the great flood, and Sodom and Gomorrah and ask, will God destroy us during the tribulation period, or are we spared like Noah and Lot. Come along and find out!
