Espresso Shot 42: YA GOTTA ASK!

If Nicoa had a $1 for every time she has asked someone the following questions:
"But have you asked?" or "Did you ask?" or "What about asking?"  What if asking the question you aren't asking actually gets you what you want? A LIFE BY DESIGN starts first and foremost with asking questions - not only of others, but of yourself!  And don't assume what others are thinking. You know what that does... GO FORTH AND ASK!

    Discover Your Power

    Discover Your Power

By now, you’ve made significant progress in breaking through the fears and paralysis that have kept you constrained through the years. You’ve learned how your fears hold you back and keep you from doing the things you want to do. You’ve learned to explore new arenas and avenues for self-expression by creating a vision and working toward it.

We are going to discuss taking actions toward the vision and the notion of getting to the edge of your comfort zone and the ability to move beyond it by taking the next step in the gap. This idea of getting to the edge and pushing yourself beyond it can feel like risk taking. Pushing yourself to take a risk deals with your confidence to drop the self-doubts of the past and take responsibility through action for who you want to be and are becoming.

An important aspect of gaining self-confidence and eliminating self-doubt is expressing what you want and speaking from a voice of certainty. It is a key method to break through certain inhibitions and the need to control the responses of others. Expressing what you want provides you an opportunity to assert not only your thoughts but also your rights and what you want in the face of your own anticipatory fear that you might offend people or be rejected.

    Let's talk about sex

    Let's talk about sex

Kelly Myles and I go back many years. I am very grateful to have been with her on her journey to become an author and watch her courageously transition out of many decades in the hairdressing industry and into a coaching career that she is loving. Kelly is now having a powerful and profound impact on many lives through her coaching business. It's interesting how many of her clients are finding challenges with their relationships and sex life. So, in this conversation we discuss it.

We all love sex, and we all want great sex, yet for so many people - including myself for many years - sex has been more a source of stress and anxiety than one of joy and pleasure. Whilst there are many short term, quick-fix, and gimmicky suggested solutions out there to help people improve sexual performance, the key seems to have very little to do with sex at all. It's all about communication and connection.

Kelly talks in detail about some very simple things we can all do to improve connection, improve communication and significantly improve intimacy. None of which involves tablets, toys, or toe-touching! This is one of those conversations that is relevant to every person, no matter age, gender, or relationship status. This is a wonderful conversation with Kelly that I enjoyed immensely and hope you do also,

    Ep 81. Affirm It

    Ep 81. Affirm It

If you want something for yourself but don't have it, you feel it.  What you think about not having it will determine how you feel and I think for most uncoached brains, it's unpleasant. Our thoughts influence how we feel so if we focus on how it's never gonna happen, we're going to feel BAD.

Some people pretend they don't want what they want because, why bother... But that desire is bound to come up and reveals itself as shoulda and coulda.  It feels like regret. Regret is haunting.

Today's episode is about no longer denying yourself the life you experience you want. A life experience that feels good, that feels BETTER and more you, right now. Today is an opportunity to affirm what that life is like.

#24: If You Don't Ask, They Can't Say YES! - Max Ivey (aka. The Blind Blogger)

Continuing with our ASK Challenge, we interview Maxwell Ivey (aka, The Blind Blogger)

Maxwell is a "blind blogger," podcaster, speaker, life coach,  author, self-taught web developer, and chuck full of wisdom and a delight to talk too.

Max helps people "ask for what you want and need in life and get it."

"Because if you don’t Ask, They Can’t say Yes!
This applies to everything in life.
    It all starts with asking.
You will have to ask yourself if you have the courage to try.
And you will have to ask others for support, encouragement, information, and more if you want to succeed."

Max's "Rule of Four" to help you achieve your dreams
Remember and follow my Rule of Four, which goes like this:

    1. If you can do it, then take action right away.

    2. If you can’t do it, then can you learn it?

    3. If you can’t do it or learn it, can you get someone to do it for you?

    4. If you can’t do it, learn it, or get someone else to do it; then ignore it and focus on the things you can do something about.

Here is a link to Max's book we dig into during the interview "A Blind Bloggers NYC Adventures"

78: Asking For What You Want & Getting What You Need - with Amy Fish, Author of I Wanted Fries With That

Amy Fish is the author of I Wanted Fries With That. In her book, Amy encourages standing up for yourself (and others) by complaining effectively.

Her suggestions will appeal to anyone who wants to speak up and isn’t sure where to start, including managers navigating workplace disputes, couples who argue about the same things over and over, and even someone with a friend with bad breath.

Illustrating her points with funny real-life stories, Amy reveals pragmatic methods to redress grievances with civility, honesty, and fairness for everyone involved — whether you’re trying to right the wrongs of the world or just claim the french fries you ordered.

Amy is also Chief Complaints Officer, known as the Ombudsperson, at Concordia University in Montreal, Canada. She is responsible for promoting fairness and making sure everyone's voice is heard.

Amy regularly teaches, speaks and writes about how to complain effectively (i.e., stand up for yourself and ask for what you need.) She also teaches writing workshops at the Quebec Writing Federation, Hippocamp Conference for Creative NonFiction and at her kitchen table. She specializes in humour writing and memoir.

Amy's work has been published in Hippocampus Magazine, Readers' Digest, Huffington Post and several other journals.

In this episode, we touch on successfully communicating one's needs, speaking up for yourself, effective conflict resolution, focusing on what you can control, the power of listening, and more.
