Chris Cornell, “No One Sings Like You Anymore, Vol. 1” - 2 Minutes to Review

Chris Cornell, “No One Sings Like You Anymore, Vol. 1” - 2 Minutes to Review

Chris Cornell’s estate gave fans a special surprise before 2020 came to a close - a posthumous album of covers titled “No One Sings Like You Anymore, Vol. 1” recorded in 2016 with producer Brendan O’Brien. So what does the late Soundgarden / Audioslave singer sound like covering songs initially made famous by John Lennon, Guns N’ Roses, Prince, Janis Joplin, Electric Light Orchestra and more?

Find out what Matt and Zach think in Epic Footnote Productions’ “2 Minutes to Review,” a podcast that’s part album review and part competition. In each episode, both hosts are given two minutes each to review a newly released album, a recent reissue, a record they’re revisiting after years of going unlistened, or in this case a collection of new singles. Whoever gives the longest review in under two minutes wins.

Best Debut Albums (That Aren’t “Appetite for Destruction”) - “If You Have to Pick 3 …”

Best Debut Albums (That Aren’t “Appetite for Destruction”) - “If You Have to Pick 3 …”

It takes some bands a few albums to find their groove… while some bands luck out and catch lightning in a bottle with their first record. So what are the three greatest debut albums that still stand the test of time (... that ARE NOT Guns N’ Roses’ “Appetite for Destruction” …)?

That’s what Matt Gamba and Zach Shaw try to do in this episode of Epic Footnote Productions’ “If You Have to Pick 3 … ,” a podcast where we have to pick their top three choices on any given topic (bands, albums, songs, genres, whatever!). After they each share their personal favorites, they then have to come to an agreement on a final top 3.

    Chris Cornell Part 1

    Chris Cornell Part 1
Let's face it, if you're interested in this program, odds are you were either a Music fan and/or a Chris Cornell fan and know most or all of the details of losing him a scant few weeks ago so we'll save you reading the saddening details yet again.

The idea of this show is to express how much of a fan Dan Minard and Randy W. Hall were, and are, of Chris Cornell. First in Soundgarden, then as a solo artist, and also in one-off Temple of the Dog and his well-known supergroup Audioslave.

In Part 1 we discuss our own fandoms and how he was one of Dan's all-time favorite singers and how he has a degree from Cornell (as a student of the man, not the college) and his esteemed membership in the exclusive online community known as Knights of the Soundtable (it's as awesome as it sounds 😄). Randy recalls how he got into Soundgarden his junior year of high school and how he considers 'Badmotorfinger' his all-time favorite Cornell featuring album. We also broach the touchy topic of his ill-fated 2009 solo project "Scream" because we're anything if not thorough.

In Part 2 we discuss each of our favorite Cornell-sung songs in detail and Randy ( who's never met a list he doesn't like) reveals his eleven fave songs in descending order). Dan rolls his eyes and plays along as we pay tribute to one of the best voices of a generation and grieve yet again another legends untimely passing. This time it's most definitely personal.

It Is What It Is HL113

It Is What It Is HL113
"My creator. You gave me life, now show me how to live!" Audioslave sang it and I applaud it. I think it's healthy to let God know what you're thinking, even if...no, ESPECIALLY if, you're struggling, angry and ready to give up. In fact, I believe being vulnerable with your creator is a necessary ingredient to living a Happy Life, especially when life turns sour. However, match it with these 5 simple words, 12 little letters, and it will roadblock you on your path to Happy.

The songs we use in this episode are "My Creator" by Audio Slave and "Fight For Your Right" by The Beastie Boys. We don't own the rights to either.

RSR119 - Jim Scott - Multi Grammy Winning Producer, Engineer, Mixer

Jim Scott talks about his entry into the music industry and working with iconic artists such as Wilco, Sting, and Tom Petty.

CLICK HERE FOR SHOW NOTES AT: http://RSRockstars.com/119

Multiple Grammy-winning producer/engineer/mixer, Jim Scott, has worked with many artists since his start with Sting's Dream of the Blue Turtles three decades ago. His discography lists over 200 credits on his website including Dixie Chicks, Tom Petty, the Rolling Stones, Roger Daltrey, Crowded House, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Ron Sexsmith, Dweezil Zappa, Styx, Foo Fighters, Johnny Cash, Rage Against The Machine, Santana, Wilco, Lucinda Williams, Nikka Costa, Weezer, and Audioslave. So many great records I had to stop writing them down.

Jim has recorded and mixed records with Rick Rubin and also with our previous guest on the podcast Richard Dodd on Tom Petty’s Wildflowers. In 2006, he built Plyrz Studio in Valencia, CA. An inviting space to make music with a classic Neve 8048 recording console, walls of colorful tapestries adorning rooms full of vintage instruments.

We are going to dive into questions about many of these classic albums that Jim has produced, engineered, and mixed, and just how he got such wonderful sounds.

Rockcast 30 - Tim Commerford from Prophets of Rage

Rockcast 30 - Tim Commerford from Prophets of Rage
He is the outspoken bassist who is most well known for his work in Rage Against the Machine. There was of course those 3 albums with Chris Cornell as the front-man for the band Audioslave. Now Tim along with his RATM/Audioslave bandmates, guitarist Tom Morello & drummer Brad Wilk, are back with Prophets of Rage. Now on the mic though are B-Real from Cypress Hill and Chuck D from Public Enemy. Tim and I caught up ahead of the debut Prophets of Rage full length album coming out this Friday.
