How to Train and Ride the Rein-Back

How to Train and Ride the Rein-Back

Rein-back is an exercise that is often problematic for riders, yet it’s a very useful one to teach your horse, especially if you encounter gates to open whilst hacking out!

Before attempting to teach your horse to rein-back, it’s important that you understand what you are aiming to achieve, especially if you intend to ride the exercise in a dressage test; it’s a tricky exercise that can be a real mark-loser when not ridden well.

So, in this podcast episode, we’re going to cover the benefits of rein-back, the qualities of a correct rein-back, how to teach the rein-back, and how to ride and aid the rein-back.

(Please note: This is an updated and expanded version of our previous 'How to Rein-Back' episode)

Entitlement and reservations at the workplace

Entitlement and reservations at the workplace
What happened when KPS Gill, a ‘supercop’ slapped an IAS officer’s derrière, or bottom? For decades, sexual harassment was not seen as a crime and it took Rupen Bajaj Deol seventeen years of struggle to challenge this. But what did the court say? And why has social justice for the Other Backward Classes (OBC’s) differed from state to state and why is this contentious? This episode of The Longest Constitution tackles caste and gender hierarchy at the workplace.

Beyond the Endpoint: Wonder & Wander

The whole world is clear and open
         throughout the ten directions
              There is no endpoint
    And yet when we
         look carefully
              there is one after all
You fly out of this world
         looking backward
              riding the giant roc
into the hollow of a lotus thread
to live where heaven and earth
              were never divided

S02 E03: Combating marginalization: Reservation of seats and jobs

S02 E03: Combating marginalization: Reservation of seats and jobs

Few issues in post independence India have caused as much heated debate as the issue of reservation in government jobs and college seats. The purpose of this move as the SC famously put it, was parity and not charity. However, with the 103rd Constitutional amendment allowing reservations on purely economic criteria, that too beyond the 50% limit the SC had enforced in the past, does this goal of reservation policy still hold true?

To talk about this, we're joined by Dr Gopal Guru, editor at the Economic and Political Weekly and former professor at JNU. In this episode we go into history of reservations in India, the evolution of the term "Dalit" and the future path of social justice movements in the country.

You Can't Drive Forward Without a Rearview Mirror - Audio
You can't drive forward without a rearview mirror-- it's true. Although it seems on the surface like we don't need to look back to go forward, think about backing out of your driveway in the morning. Indeed, we do need to look back to safely navigate our way forward. In this sermon, Michael Moorhead suggests that we need to apply the same logic to our Christian Faith-- looking behind us and actively remembering our shared past so that we may find it's meaning in our own lives. This sermon is the second in the Neighborhood Church's Spring 2019 "Rules for the Road... of Faith" Sermon Series.
