Season of Giving, Spoils of War, You Decide

This Thanksgiving weekend Patti and the Pottymouth cross-trained with hockey, Led Zeppelin, assembling IKEA furniture, beer farms, and unsuccessful mousing. MLB players, however, leaned into the giving with Andrew Vaughn working with Digs for DIgnity to assist a family emerging from homelessness, Hunter Greene outfitting hundreds of kids with brand new cleats, and Pablo López supporting pet rescue through pickleball. Playoff teams voted on how to divide their percentage of the postseason gate, sharing “life-changing money” with support staff who helped them get there. Hall of Fame balloting was announced and former NCiB boyfriends are starting to make the list. Winter ball in the DR is featuring familiar faces including Tatis, Jr., Ramirez, Profar, and Aquaman. Baseball United has kicked off in Dubai with appearances by Big Sexy, cricket players, Justine Siegal, and a 6-run HR. We don’t think “moneyball” means what you think it means. Pottymouth wants you to play LVBP fantasy with her. An NBA family reminds us that players are more than pawns in the game. Next week we kick off a new group of baseball boyfriends with the A’s and Rockies. Join our Patreon so you can watch us record “backstage!”

We say “cabana injuries,” “you would have known if there were cowbells,” and “we’re only drinking barrel-aged beverages today.” Fight the man, send your game balls to Meredith, get boosted, and find us on Twitter @ncibpodcast, on Facebook @nocryinginbball, Instagram @nocryinginbball and on the Interweb at nocryinginbball.com. 164 - You're Playing to Win, You're Rebuilding, or You're the Cubs

    164 - You're Playing to Win, You're Rebuilding, or You're the Cubs

In this week's episode, Andrew, Craig and Rex discuss Colorado's sudden decision to bolt to the Big 12, some early trade deadline musings, Bartolo Colon's retirement announcement almost 5 years since his last Major League appearance and bands we would like to see come out of retirement.

    Episodes Mentioned;
    152 - R.E.M.'s Murmur at 40 w/ Tony Fletcher

Errata: The New York Yankees were 14 games behind the Boston Red Sox on July 17, 1978, but rallied to win the division in a one-game playoff. Red Sox pitcher Bill "Spaceman" Lee discussed that season in our Episode 45A - Shavermetrics w/ Scott Russell and Bill "Spaceman" Lee (Radio Edit).  Allen Collins, not Albert Collins, played guitar for Lynyrd Skynyrd. Following Gary Rossington's death, Artimus Pyle is the only surviving band member from before the plane crash.

We Want to Retire Like CC Sabathia

We Want to Retire Like CC Sabathia

You know it’s serious when Tony La Russa and his unwritten rules aren’t the worst thing in our Police Blotter. Hello, Felipe Vazquez. The Willy Adames trade sends Pottymouth’s boyfriend roster into disarray. Jesse “Da Wink” Winker hears MVP chants. Chad Pinder and Ian Happ are new men after their IL stints. Jake Cronenworth hits an inside-the-park home run for Patti’s birthday, and Mountcastle slams from her bench. A go-ahead slam for Miggy gets him closer to the 500 mark, and Nando gets to 50 homers. The COVID IL for the Mariners is an object lesson in how a personal choice not to vaccinate affects the entire team.

Can we retire like CC Sabathia? A podcast where he can go off full Pottymouth about unwritten rules, a Negro Leagues clothing line, and a rec softball team where he gets to hit. Our grooming segment features umpire footwear (It’s good!), and the Marlins’ Sugar Kings unis. Women’s baseball in the UK has begun and the Bristol Bobcats have our full support. The old guys are shining in the LMB (Big Sexy for the opening night win! Adrian Gonzalez with the first run for the Mariachis de Guadalajara!). So many Andersons.

Wash your hands, wear your masks, watch your distance, get your vaccine as soon as you can, and fight the man. Goofy But Never Abrasive

    Goofy But Never Abrasive

The League updates harassment and discrimination policies, expanding mandatory training beyond players to include staff and front office executives. A new anonymous hotline for reporting violations has been established, and although we are in favor of these baby steps, Pottymouth proposes going full public school and mandating reporting for anyone who hears of violations. Giant steps backwards in fan engagement, however, as MLB cleans house of social media coordinators. The League and the Player’s Association agreed on health and safety protocols for the coming season, learning from last year.  Expected behavior is spelled out very clearly, as are consequences, and the wearing of not-quite-ankle bracelets.

Pottymouth introduces you to some relative unknowns in our boyfriend segment, Jose Abreu for the White Sox and Nolan Arenado for the Cardinals.  Keep an eye out for these players with Cuban connections, they may make names for themselves one day.  Patti’s CWS pick of prospect Andrew “Please give me Ricky Wild Thing Vaughn’s number” Vaughn offers a chance for a romantic Valentine’s Day serenade from your hosts. For the Cardinals, Patti swaps in “family dinner” for the “have a beer” requirement and chooses brainy infielder Tommy Edman.

It’s always a good day when we can talk about Big Sexy. All this plus helpful vaccine hints, animal documentaries, and international baseball.

I’ll Take Lions for 1000, Alex

I’ll Take Lions for 1000, Alex

What a week! A couple of important wins, including NCiB going 2-0 in bets on the UniLions in the Taiwan Series. Pottymouth gives our pal, CPBL Social Media Guy Daniel Shih, dating advice and recaps the championship series. That other important win gives Patti a chance to steal a joke deftly combining the Electoral College and baseball.

No fewer than 39 professional sports venues became polling places this year to provide safe places for large numbers of people to vote. President-Elect Biden is invited to throw out the first pitch for the Nats, although what Opening Day looks like is an open question. Pottymouth processes her feelings about Alex Cora going back to the Red Sox. Tim Anderson won’t go changin’ to try to please LaRussa. The Mets clean house. Big Sexy Bartolo Colon still wants to play baseball which is one more reason you should watch the Dominican League

Hey, guess what? The Dodgers organization reports 5 or 9 post-World Series celebration positive COVID-19 test results, depending on who you ask.  And MLB lets Justin Turner off the hook because how can we expect a grown man not to cave to peer pressure.  (yeah, there’s a rant.) The Gold Glove and Silver Slugger award winners are NCiB boyfriend heavy, the way it should be. Also, CPBL pitcher Tim Melville’s mom thinks we are sassy and zany.
