    18. Crocs, Barry Bonds, VW Bugs

    18. Crocs, Barry Bonds, VW Bugs

Phil and Jake continue their record-breaking streak of adding items to the List of Every Damn Thing by ranking the clog-like footwear known as Crocs, controversial home-run king Barry Bonds, and the Volkswagen Type 1 (aka "Beetle" or "Bug").

If you have something to add to the List of Every Damn Thing, let us know by sending an email to list@everydamnthing.net (or get at us on Twitter and Instagram).

    SHOW NOTES:

    • In the episode, your humble hosts wonder what material Crocs are made of. It turns out to be a proprietary foam resin called Croslite.
    • Phil and Jake also speculate over where Crocs come from. Phil was closest when he said he thought they're from Boulder, Colorado; Crocs, Inc. is based in the nearby town of Niwot. All their manufacturing is outside of the U.S., though.
    • Here’s a Croc in chill mode, and here’s one in attack mode.
    • We weren't sure about the opening of AT&T Park (now Oracle Park) in relation to Bonds' steroid use and home run record-chase. It looks like Bonds started steroids in 1998, the baseball park opened two years later in 2000, and Bonds started breaking home run records in 2001. Here's an article about a book that traces the timeline.
    • We discuss a number of high-profile athlete doping stories, including Alex RodriguezLance ArmstrongSammy Sosa vs. Mark McGwire, and Jose Canseco (whose Twitter feed is wild).
    • Jake's great-grandfather Arky Vaughan is a hall-of-famer who's been called the second-best shortstop in MLB history (after Honus Wagner).
    • Here’s an article about the 1960s VW U.S. ad campaign that Phil references, and here's some info on the Hozbrenner (wood-burning) Beetles that Jake talks about.
    • The type of hat that Sherlock Holmes wears is called a deerstalker.

#53 ONE YEAR ANNIVERSARY SHOW (w. Beetle, Freedom Walker and Julie Novak) "SEASON TWO, it's All About the LOVE"

Hey hey HEYYYYY! It's our one year anniversary to us! We’ve been bringing you 2 interviews of incredible females EVERY WEEK for a year.. and we’re going for another season 🌘 finally launching the podcast, including street interviews, road trips and more... Our joke to have a show of us laughing became a reality, AMAZING! We are so grateful for all you listeners, hope you keep tuning in! Theresa talks about her experience during the Women's March last weekend and shares a quote from Elizabeth Cady Stanton in honor of the women out there working hard to keep the movement going. "I think if women would indulge more freely in vituperation, they would enjoy ten times the health they do. It seems to me they are suffering from repression. So long as women are slaves, men will be knaves."

Today we are celebrating with our fellow Radio Kingston Hosts and it's a fun, wild ride. Beetle: "I’m Beetle. I’m a writer, blogger, novelist, sometime performer, and hysterically infrequent embodiment of the things most people expect of me." Please watch this clip of Beetle performing at TMI #blackstories matter and if you need a good laugh this one. Freedomwalker "I’m FreedomWalker. I’m a certified creative art therapist and an accredited practitioner of the healing arts. I’m spiritual, a fine artist and a writer. I’m happy to share my gifts and passion with the listeners." Here's a clip from FreedomWalker talking about how she received her name. Beetle and Freedomwalker have a show at Radio Kingston: The Black Meta. Julie Novak: "Julie is a radio host at Radio Kingston, No One Like You! She has been performing around the New York Tri-State area for the last 15 years. Her comedy combines a keen look at the politics of queerness, gender variance, and everything in between. She studied comedy and improv at Second City in Chicago and Upright Citizens Brigade Theatre in NYC. She has performed stand-up in Chicago, New York, Philadelphia, and Washington DC. She participated, along with such comedians as Lewis Black and Kathy Griffin, in the Serious Laughs Comedy Festival in Kingston, NY headlining “Queerstock”, a gay and lesbian cabaret. In 2010, Novak co-founded TMI Project, a non-profit organization offering transformative memoir workshops and performances where people learn to tell the parts of their stories that they usually leave out." Julie is MC'ing a benefit for a new Kingston recovery center, Samadhi, this weekend, January 27th at the Colony. AND join us all as we celebrate the one year anniversary of her show, No One Like You, February 23rd at BSP in Kingston, NY. Tickets available soon...be there and be square! Today we chatted about oh so many things from overcoming fear to the challenges of living in a society where we are both finding our unique tribes and allies yet also trying to celebrate our differences at the same time. How do we evolve and grow together? Tune into their shows, they are both amazing, thought provoking, comedic and heart-centered. It's all about love anyway!!!

Next week, we welcome Lea Garnier and Dee Solin! Thanks to Manuel Blas and Warren Lawrence from Radio Kingston for engineering this wild and crazy ride today. We heard clips from Ubaka Hill during this past weekend's Woodstock Women's March and music from Shana Falana. Until next week, love yourself and uplift another.

Today’s show was engineered by Manuel Blas of Radio Kingston, www.radiokingston.org.

    Seibertron.com Twincast / Podcast #214: Bumblebee
The Transformers live action film franchise's latest installment is out, with Bumblebee hitting theaters last week. The Seibertron.com Twincast / Podcast brings you its review of the movie, with one of its regular podcasters Jon Bailey bringing his insights after providing the voice acting talents for Soundwave and Shockwave in the film. Along with this insider perspective, the cast discusses each significant part of the movie itself, beginning with the "Generation One" inspired opening scene on Cybertron. The new human and robot characters presented in the Earth based adventures are also reflected on, with the cast agreeing that this latest movie is a measurable tonal departure from the approach of previous films in the franchise. After talking through the entire movie's plot and characterizations, speculation about what comes next for Travis Knight, Michael Bay, and the Transformers live action movies comes next. A quick chat about the movie's tie-in toyline follows, and the show concludes with a quick round of holiday season bragging rights about the cast's Transformers related gifts.

Episode 98: 2019 VW Beetle, Puebla Mexico Factory Visit, 2019 VW Tiguan, Jeep Gladiator, Toyota TRD, Weird Animal Car Names
What's it like to drive a dead car on Mexico's Day of the Dead, in Puebla City, Mexico? Benjamin tells the sad tale of the end-of-the-line for the Volkswagen Beetle, which marks 2019 as its final year of production. He also tours the plant where the Beetle is built and gets to go on a check-out ride right off of the line with VW test engineers. Sami laments the 2019 Volkswagen Tiguan SUV as being not quite enough of anything to feel competitive in its segment, just before the pair dive down a rabbit hole of TRD Camrys and Avalons, Jeep Gladiators, and a theoretical list of weird car names that may or may not include the word 'EarthSnake.'

Seibertron.com Twincast / Podcast #211 "On The Prowl"
Seibertron.com Twincast / Podcast #211: On The Prowl
"On The Prowl", episode 211 of the Seibertron.com Twincast Podcast, begins with the typical recurring ending segment of the show with the cast talking about their latest Transformers toy acquisitions. The newly revealed BotBots product line from Hasbro is discussed next, with varying opinions on the appeal of these upcoming toys. Various newly revealed Movie Studio Series toys are analyzed, with forthcoming figures such as Deluxe Class Shatter, Cogman, and Scrapmetal, Voyager Class Long Haul, and Leader Class Jetfire getting a look. The latter's combination abilities with another Voyager Optimus Prime figure is also a topic of conversation, along with speculation on the Leader Class Megatron inspired by the character's appearance in 2011's Dark of the Moon. After all that, the retrospective look at the "Super Car" era of Transformers Masterpiece toys from Hasbro and Takara Tomy continues with discussion of MP-17 Prowl, MP-18 Streak, and the retooled MP-19 Smokescreen. Their repaints are talked about next, including the recently released MP-17+ version of Prowl. MP-20 Wheeljack and the enigmatic MP-23 Exhaust get a look, with perspective on Philip Morris' objections that complicated Exhaust's release. The show finishes up with a chat about MP-21 Bumblebee and the red repaint of the toy, plus the gold G2 version.

Episode 89: 2018 Mercedes-AMG CLA45, 2018 Volvo XC40, Exploding Chevrolet Colorado Airbags, Death Of The Beetle
The 2018 Mercedes-AMG CLA45 will cost you $20k more than the base CLA-Class, but is it a real AMG car? Benjamin thinks so, and while both he and Sami have reservations, it's a major improvement over the standard version of the vehicle. Get ready for more gushing about the 2018 Volvo XC40 SUV, too, as Benjamin hauls tires in class and style. Finally, the pair talk about the Chevrolet Colorado's airbag problem (hint: the explode when you go off-road), and the death of the new new VW Beetle.

    Episode 14: Issues 28-29

    Episode 14: Issues 28-29
Giant-Man becomes Goliath and the Avengers finally remember to rescue Wasp from some cosmic hoarder named The Collector. Then Black Widow recruits Power Man and Swordsman to seek some old-fashioned Communist revenge. Wasp loses to a bird and a tree while Goliath gets stuck at ten feet tall. Sounds about right...
