    "Best of" - We Asked Dr. Joy to Tell Her Story!

    Genesis 3:16 had been mistranslated. Many harmful misconceptions had arisen. Many harmful practices had been propagated.

    In her research Joy opens up the 7-point chiasm in Genesis 2-3 and especially the patterns related to Genesis 3:16. It turns out that God didn't curse Eve (or Adam) or limit woman in any way.

    You can discover these insights and more in her books available from Tru316.com/trubooks

    1 Peter 3:1-6 The Weaker Husband

    1 Peter 3:1-6 The Weaker Husband

    Witnessing wives and husbands. The passage of 1 Peter 3:1-7 is about those Christians who are married to unbelieving spouses. They are unequally yoked. They are praying for their partner to come to Christ. Peter gives sensible advice how to please God and how to win their spouse.

    Is this passage about hierarchical marriages with wives submitting to their lordly husbands? Are all wives somehow the "weaker vessel"? NOT AT ALL! The weaker spouse does not yet know Christ and needs to be won to Him.

    How to Handle Wayward Church Leaders. 1 Timothy 1-3

    How to Handle Wayward Church Leaders. 1 Timothy 1-3
    • When you study 1 Timothy do you take into account Paul's Three Sins?
    • Do you keep in mind the reason Paul left Timothy behind in Ephesus?
    • Have you noticed how God judges people differently based on whether they are first degree or second degree sinners?

     Focusing on these key items unlocks the tangled web of competing and confusing interpretations of 1 Timothy!

    Women and men who were wayward leaders are identified and corrected by Paul in 1 Timothy 1-3. Jesus, the faithful Word, could restore these former church pastors, Paul says!

    But many people are teaching that women should NEVER be pastors. Are they right? No, they have misread the passage!

    Overview: 7 Key Passages on Women and Men

    Overview: 7 Key Passages on Women and Men

    God didn't punish or restrict women in Eden or in the Church. But many people think that is just what God did. Before The Eden Podcast was launched, and The Eden Book Series was published, the Reverend Bruce C. E. Fleming, DEA, taught a major series of lessons you can now find on YouTube that are here being made available for you on Season 11 of The Eden Podcast. The so called "clobber passages" are each made clear in this series.

    Saddleback Church Kicked Out of the SBC Over Women’s Ordination: Why To Care & What To Do

    In this week's episode I talk about Saddleback Church's exit from the Southern Baptist Convention over the ordination of women. This even gets at a deeper issue. I discus the doctrine of complementarianism, the divide between men and women that needs healing and give some advice on how to bring change to your faith community.

    TRU Talk by California Pastor Mike Davis

    TRU Talk by California Pastor Mike Davis

    I started from Genesis to understand the egaliltarian / complementarian issues and do my research. The insights of Dr. Joy and Rev. Bruce C. E. Fleming really made a difference.

    Over in Genesis 3 there was talk about Eve and Adam being cursed but I wanted more research scholars. I came across the work of Dr. Joy Fleming and it really made a big difference in how we interpret the text. It changed how we see the relationship between men and women and much more.

    Feedback was "Thank you SO much for clearing that up. It's nice to know that we're not cursed and that God is not down on women!"

    TRU Talk by Dr. Bev Nyberg, former State Department Senior Advisor

    Upon learning the Tru316 insights my response included relief, disbelief and amazement! As a result of what I learned of the Bible from Joy and Bruce I really felt free to use my gifts and desires to the full. (Sadly, up to that point she had been given to believe she couldn't use her gifts because she was a woman.)

    I feel the Tru316 insights are really, really important for many reasons. Here are three:

    1. My relationship with God.
    2. The effectiveness of the church.
    3. Our witness to the world.

    Joy Book. Part 6. Tru316.com

    Joy Book. Part 6. Tru316.com

    Many people think Eve was struck by God with severe punishments. Dr. Joy Fleming reveals that is not what the 11 Hebrew words say in Genesis 3:16. In her dissertation she points out the good news / bad news pattern present in Gods' words to the woman and man. This reflects the good / bad result from eating from the Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil

    Joy Book. Part 1. Tru316.com

    Joy Book. Part 1. Tru316.com

    Here is Part 1 of our serialization of Dr. Joy Fleming's book Man and Woman in Biblical Unity, Theology from Genesis 2-3.

    The human race was and is God's delight. This early part of Genesis tells of two human beings, each specially "handmade" by God. It speaks of how they related to their Creator's care and command. Because two people were created, societal interplay is observed between them. And because they were responsible for their own actions, the Creator deals with each one individually.

    In Genesis we discover that both persons share equally in

    • the image of God (Gn. 1:26-27);
    • the charge to be fruitful and multiply (Gn. 1:28);
    • the mandate to rule over the world God created (Gn. 1:26-31);
    • the enjoyment of God's gracious bounty in the Garden (Gn. 2);
    • and even in the name "Adam" (Gn. 5:2).

    Neither person of either gender has greater intrinsic value than the other. They are partners in the grace of life. The text of Genesis 2 and 3 tells us of the Creator who graciously reaches out to the two sinners, and how the first couple experiences God's love as well as the consequence of sin.
