    03 - Theological Romanticism, Higher Criticism & Post-Modern Fascism: A German Odyssey

    03 - Theological Romanticism, Higher Criticism & Post-Modern Fascism: A German Odyssey
While it is true skepticism toward the Bible as an authentic revelation from God began in England with the meteoric rise of the scientific revolution during the 1600s and 1700s which gave birth to the Enlightenment and the secular religion of Deism that tried to outlaw God’s miraculous intervention into providence and history, it was the German response and reaction to the Age of Reason that led to an all-out assault against the historicity of the Scriptures. English Deism only went so far, but Germany took it to heart, and then even worse, assuming its scientific conclusions were relatively true concerning the biblical record, tried to fix it—but not by returning to the Protestant Reformation. Instead, German scholars of the 1700s and 1800s came up their own semi-secularized natural theology that rivalled and later replaced Deism with what is known today as Theological Liberalism ...

13 - Theological Method and John Nelson Darby

13 - Theological Method and John Nelson Darby
The father of modern dispensationalism came on the scene of history at a salutary moment, and he read his Bible with rare devotional abandon just prior to and throughout a lifetime of writing. His vast and challenging written record presents volumes of meticulous theological correspondence, popular tract- and pamphlet-writing, and a body of argumentative discourse that would leave little doubt as to his opinion on theological matters from Greek grammatical structures in the New Testament to the application of biblical principles in 19th Century British political life. From this record one can distill a rigorous and thoroughly detailed system of theology, though the desirable task of cataloging and prioritizing said systematic theology was sadly one accomplishment Darby never undertook. Darby would probably remark that the Bible has its own system, and therefore the closest thing we have to his systematic theology is his Synopsis of the Books of the Bible. This magnum opus, originally published in French, took him the better part of twenty years to complete, and in five volumes it presents a system that must be derived inductively. Darby’s priority of the Bible—illuminated to the believer by the Holy Spirit—over human reasoning was his constant appeal.

12 - African Tribal Religion and Its Influence on American Culture and the American Church

12 - African Tribal Religion and Its Influence on American Culture and the American Church
I spent 37 years in ministry as a pastor here in the US. In 2010 my wife Pat and I moved to Liberia, West Africa where we served for five years with SIM, Serving in Missions (formerly Sudan Interior Missions). I have spent countless hours interacting with Africans and learning about their culture and their traditional beliefs. As we returned to the US in June of 2015 I was surprised to see many of the aspects of African Tribal Religion (ATR) finding their way into the American culture and in the American church. Illustrations of ATR Influence on our Culture: We can see the influence of African Tribalism in much of the American culture. Fashion, hair styles, body piercing and scaring, tattoos, ear plugs, and music. This is the invasion of an eastern world view on our western culture.

    4 - Babel – Implications and Evidence of Early Advanced Culture—Part 1

    4 - Babel – Implications and Evidence of Early Advanced Culture—Part 1
Most world almanacs list 193 independent countries in the world. Linguist John Oller Jr. claims that there are 6912 distinct languages with 94 different language families in the world today. Where did all these nations and these many languages come from? The answer to this question is unknown to the secular world. Their best explanation is that all these must have come as a result of many years of evolutionary development. But the best answer is given to us by revelation, the account of Babel in Genesis 11. The secular world does not view the account of the Tower of Babel as historical. Even most believers do not consider Babel as important as other major events, particularly in the book of Genesis. However, like the Flood and the Fall of mankind, the impact of Babel continues to influence our world even today. In fact, Babel has far-reaching implications. Babel explains the origin of national entities as well as our struggles to communicate with those from other cultures. I am reminded of this each year that I go to Ukraine to teach. Without a translator, I am close to useless there.

2 - The Kadesh Barnea Paradigm as a Solution to the Problem of Hebrews 6:4–6

2 - The Kadesh Barnea Paradigm as a Solution to the Problem of Hebrews 6:4–6
The warning found in Hebrews 6:4-6 has provoked difficulty and disagreement among Bible interpreters and exegetes. Gromacki observes that this passage is “Probably the most controversial passage within Hebrews…” As a result of this difficulty, various interpretations have arisen. Most Calvinist and Reformed interpreters insist that the warning passage is too strong to apply to believers and thus unbelievers are in view in these verses. Arminians contend that the passage is speaking of genuine believers who are at risk of losing their salvation. Others argue that these verses are speaking of genuine believers and the severe warning constitutes a mere hypothetical scenario. Still others contend that theses verses speak of believers who are in jeopardy of losing blessings. Who is right? How are interpreters to make sense of this difficult passage?

12 - How Were People Saved in the Old Testament? - Keynote

12 - How Were People Saved in the Old Testament? - Keynote
The most significant question that anyone can ask is, “What must I do to be saved?” The only authoritative answer is found in the Bible. To most Christians the words save and salvation immediately call to mind the meaning of deliverance from the lake of fire after death or perhaps “go to heaven when you die.” But this idea of salvation is not the most common meaning of those terms in the Bible. The various Hebrew words translated, “to save,” or, “salvation,” rarely relate to personal salvation from eternal judgment or ultimate entrance into heaven. The New Testament words save and salvation also have a variety of meanings in different passages. If one assumes that every occurrence of the word save or of the word salvation refers to deliverance from the lake of fire, it will inevitably lead to an incorrect interpretation of many passages. It is important to understand that most of the time when the words save and salvation appear in Scripture they mean something other than, “final deliverance from the lake of fire.” Click here to download the Visualized Bible Verses ZIP file, compliments of James F. 11 - Middle East Meltdown – Ezekiel 38–39 - Part 2

    11 - Middle East Meltdown – Ezekiel 38–39 - Part 2
Part 2 In this session entitled "The Middle East Meltdown" we are going to focus our attention on the famous prophecy found in Ezekiel 38‒39. However, it's a meltdown only from the human point of view, not the divine perspective. A subtitle for this presentation could be "The Coming Islamic Invasion of Israel." There’s a very interesting Chinese saying that says, "May You Live in Interesting Times." I think the time period that we’re living in now would qualify as interesting. Given the choice, there isn’t a time period in history that I would rather be living in than now. Why? The Lord seems to be setting the stage for His return as never before. One of these major stage-setting trends that we are currently seeing is the rise of a coalition of nations that harbors a hostile intent toward Israel. No matter which presidential administration comes into office in this nation and no matter how the calendar turns, this is an issue that doesn’t seem to go away.
