    Dear Mamas...(Mother's Day Episode)

    Dear Mamas...(Mother's Day Episode)

In this episode, ahead of Mother's Day, Quai discusses the importance of mothers and how we should acknowledge and show gratitude to our mothers every day. She discusses her 3 children & gives some highlights and lessons learned during her own 15-year motherhood journey. Quai also reflects on her moms and how influential they are and have been in her life. She touches on maturity, reflection, forgiveness, understanding and forward movement; healing past maternal hurts in order to appropriately and effectively move forward as she raises her own children. Sometimes it takes us becoming mothers for us to better understand, respect and appreciate our own. Whether you're a mother or not, HONOR and CHERISH yours. Tupac said it best: "There's no way I can pay you back, but the plan is to show you that I understand...you are appreciated.

    HAPPY MOTHER'S DAY, MAMAS!

43: Your Story with Tershone Phillips

43: Your Story with Tershone Phillips

    The “Your Story” Series

This week we are excited to be shifting our story narratives from parents to a daughter! Tershone Phillips, host of “The Right Mistake Podcast,” is joining us to share how her body image was challenged at the pivotal tween years and the protective measures that her parents took to help her maintain her confidence. We know parents can’t solve or control everything, as much as we wish we could, but we love the perspective of what we can try our best to accomplish in the home environment to raise confident kids inside and out.

Where we are raised can greatly impact our body story, as we discuss this week, due to the sub cultures that vary from community to community. We are grateful for our listeners from all over the world and, as you all listen along with us this Season and rewrite your body story, our journal prompt for you is this: how was where you were raised, where you currently live, and the sub cultures that come along with your geographic locations, contribute to your lived experience in your body?

No matter where you live, as parents it will be crucial to attempt, to our best abilities, to have our children exposed to various places and people to build kindness and awareness of diverse body sizes and shapes, races and ethnicities, religions and cultures. We are excited to hear Tershone chat today about her story, how her parents were a support to her, and give some great insight to us listeners who are parents about how we can keep our kids focused on what really matters!

Finding the Good in a Hard Situation and Season

Finding the Good in a Hard Situation and Season

Whew, it's a lot going on in the world today. But you also may have a lot going on at any point in time. Finding the good in your situation can certainly help you get through it.

This week I'm talking about what I'm taking away from the quarantine and social issues regarding racism that have come up once again. There are things that I'm able to do that I would have missed out on or not done if I was at work all day being my normal distracted self.

I also shared what some of you said you were taking away from all this into your "new normal".

Day 20: Black Mommas are weathering the storm

Day 20: Black Mommas are weathering the storm

This is an episode straight from the heart. No script. Just a Black Momma pleading for someone to hear me and my sisters to help us get healthy enough to birth our next generation.

Weathering as a phenomenon that has been found in Black women and is one of the reasons we see an increase in fetal and neonatal mortality and morbidity It has been found that in Black women, the younger we are the healthier our children are born and the older we are, the more complications our unborn children deal with. In comparison to other races, it's the opposite.

Why? Because the older we get, the more stress we build in our bodies. This stress causes chronic disease and complications in future pregnancies. By the time we get to late 20s, our mind, body, and spirit are broken. No matter that we are more financially stable, our wombs are stressed.

This episode is a talk from my heart on how others can help decrease the stress Black women face everyday which will help us birth healthier babies to help lead the next generation.
