The Blogging Lifestyle - with Lizanne Dooner

The Blogging Lifestyle - with Lizanne Dooner

When she's not stuck in a cubicle at the 9-5, you can find Lizanne ordering a latte, catching a flight with her beau or family, or adventuring with girlfriends. The Finding Fire crew had the opportunity to meet up with Lizanne over Zoom and talk about the full perspective of what it's like to be a travel/lifestyle blogger. We talked everything from what it takes to build true partnerships with companies, the time it takes to plan out an epic adventure, and the true benefits of pursuing passion.

Lizanne's blogging career started through something she loved, the love of exploring new towns and cities discovering its hidden gems. Most importantly, this passion has allowed her to inspire so many people to get out of the house and create experiences that they will never forget.

Tune in for some great takeaways about blogging and some true inspiration that is evident in Lizanne's journey.

Personal Growth and Healing through Creative Writing with Molly Gibson Kirby

Personal Growth and Healing through Creative Writing with Molly Gibson Kirby

Molly Gibson Kirby was born in Liverpool, England, and grew up in Liverpool, Nova Scotia. Growing up in a town with one stop light allowed her to create her own story. All she knew was that one day she would be living a life that she always dreamed up, beating the odds she faced in Liverpool.

Molly moved out when she was 14, dealing with hard mental health battles. She eventually graduated college with a major in Broadcast Journalism through the Radio Television Arts program at NSCC. Her passion was to tell stories, whether her own stories or others.

Molly always knew that she would have to make a move to start her career in Journalism, but she never expected the move to be in northern Manitoba. She accepted a morning news position in Thompson Manitoba, 8 hours north of Winnipeg.

There, she lived life to the fullest. Molly experienced northern life and it gave her a better understanding of the world, First Nations and how Canada is failing them. She saw the northern lights every night, went to trapping festivals, saw homes with no lights or water in the middle of a city, went snowshoeing and eventually became the only reporter at the Thompson Citizen Newspaper, writing about 80% of the newspaper every week.

After two -50 degree winters, she knew her time was up and that she needed to venture even further west. At that point, Molly had never gone to BC and it was never a thought on her mind to move out west. But, again, she accepted a job in Kelowna, googled the city and knew in her heart this was the place she was supposed to be.

Since living in Kelowna for nearly 6 years now, Molly has had the chance to open up about her mental health on a larger scale, hosting and speaking at mental health events. Kelowna is also the place where she's grown my passion for yoga, sustainability and low to zero waste living.

Her blog thebookofmolly.com is the place where Molly shares mental health wins, lessons she's learned through yoga, sustainable tips and travel diaries. It’s her place on the internet to show others that not everything you see on social media is a staged photo with a professional behind the camera. She is determined to keep it real, share insights in her life and tips on people hoping to feel better and get better. After working so many years in journalism and covering so many tragedies, Molly decided she would focus her time on doing better, being better and helping others see the better in the world.

In Kelowna, Molly works in real estate marketing and is working to build her career as a full-time freelance writer.. She loves Kelowna. She loves the possibilities, the environment, the people and the desire for the citizens to do better.

Molly is committed to continuing to better herself through yoga practice, sustainability, saying no to fast fashion, sharing her mental health journey, and swapping to zero waste alternatives.

    Do newswires have a future?

    Do newswires have a future?

News distribution has been an essential part of the PR and marketing playbook for decades, but how does it fit in a world where journalism is so fragmented, between traditional news outlets, upstart news providers,  bloggers, social media influencers and independent journalists? Gregg Castano, CEO of News Direct, an upstart staffed by newswire industry veterans, discusses how newswires and content delivery continue to evolve and the ways PR and marketing pros can take advantage of these changes.

Escaping the Rabbit Hole: my journey through depression with Tracey Maxfield

Since the release of her book, Escaping the Rabbit Hole: my journey through depression, Tracey Maxfield has become a staunch advocate for Mental Illness and Mental Health Awareness and Bullying and completed the course, Bringing Mental Health to Schools. She has met with teenagers ages 11 to 15 years to talk about bullying and mental illness and has appeared on numerous podcasts, live radio shows and ABC KOMO News 4, KSHV 45, and NBC News 6 television shows. In June, Tracey was featured in a series of articles by HelloCare magazine in Australia.

In September, Tracey embarked on a new life journey: she sold her home, donated most of her possessions to various charities and made a commitment to try and make a difference in the world and is spending six months traveling in the USA, talking about mental illness and bullying in children and teenagers. Her philosophy is to Engage children and teenagers, to Educate them about mental illness and bullying and to Empower them to develop confidence and skills to continue to move ahead in their own life journey.

Kara and I have read the book Escaping the Rabbit Hole: my journey through depression and it is excellent. I highly recommend you buy and read it, if you or anyone you care about is suffering, or has suffered, from depression. It's now available in paperback, Kindle and audiobook
