In recent years the run of summertime Southern Bluefin tuna available to Melbourne anglers has become more consistent, with fish being taken trolling, casting and jigging within a kilometre or two of the coast in 20-30m of water.

Southern Bluefin Tuna have become a genuine target for South West Victoria's lure fishermen in recent years. Advances in trailerboat technology have opened new waters, while recovery of the SBT fishery means more fish are coming close to the coastline. It all adds up to a spectacular fishing opportunity!

Southern Bluefin Tuna (SBT). They're one big, tough customer that can test any angler (if they're lucky). 

Stu Nichols has been a professional charter operator specialising in catching SBT for 20 years. In 2016 alone he caught and released 1000 Southern Bluefin Tuna. Plus, he's caught 95 barrels in his career so far.
