Brain Unblocked: Learning to Live “Optimized AF” after Infertility or Pregnancy Loss- Part 2 (with Carolyn Robistow, M.Ed., LPC, Clini-Coach, & Certified BSP Practitioner)

Brain Unblocked: Learning to Live “Optimized AF” after Infertility or Pregnancy Loss- Part 2 (with Carolyn Robistow, M.Ed., LPC, Clini-Coach, & Certified BSP Practitioner)

This week we are sharing part 2 of my interview with Carolyn Robistow, a Licensed Professional Counselor, coach, and certified Brain Spotting Practitioner.

If you haven’t listened to part 1 of this conversation (Episode #009- you can find it here) I highly encourage you to stop right now and go back and listen to that one first. In part 1, Carolyn shared her personal journey of experiencing infertility to now embracing and thriving in her amazing childfree life, and she so beautifully explains the amazing science of brainspotting, how you can start doing it right now,  and how brainspotting can be used to manage triggers, emotions, and unhealthy thought and behavior patterns specifically for those of us who have experienced infertility or loss.

In this episode, Carolyn and I pick up right where we left off and dive into discussing the 3 pillars of change and how brainspotting can also be helpful to use in any type of habit change- whether that’s an unhealthy thought pattern or reaction we continue to find ourselves stuck in or a behavioral habit that we recognize isn’t serving us or empowering us to be our best self. I know for a lot of us on this journey, there is so much we wish we could change. While we can’t usually change our circumstances or the outcomes, we can change our thoughts, our behaviors, our routines, our habits, and the way we respond to stressors in our lives. Carolyn explains the science behind habit change and how we can use it to our advantage to get “unstuck” when we feel like what is working for everyone else isn’t working for us.

I know this is one conversation that I plan to personally listen to again and again as I find myself in a place of wanting to create change in my own life. As always, I hope this episode sparks courage and ignites hope for you in the week ahead.

Welcome to the latest show! A few areas we will touch on are EMDR, Brainspotting, Trauma, PTSD, Anxiety and much more.

This is A Mental Health Break - the podcast where we normalize the conversation on mental health. Weekly interviews each Tuesday since January 2020.

This week's spotlight story will cover Brainspotting

If you have been listening to the show over the last year, you have heard a message from Tampa Counseling Wellness in the beginning of each episode. It is now time to interview the amazing staff over at TCW! Big shoutout to Carlos and his staff for all of the amazing work he is doing there and continuous support of the show.

    Meet Dallas Trese:

I am a therapist who regularly talks during session, frequently providing feedback & perspective to help guide you in developing your own opinion and reflections for your life. I will never know you better than you know yourself, however I can help you navigate a more nurturing and compassionate way to better understand yourself, and those around you. I am passionate & trained in the mind-body connection by utilizing techniques such as EMDR, brain-spotting, & meditative yoga practices.

In our sessions together we will incorporate all parts of you. Your emotional needs, beliefs (mental), physical symptoms of struggles (body), and spiritual aspects (questions about existence and future) will be addressed in our sessions together. If desired we can discuss utilizing a mind-body therapy to integrate the physical body in treatment as well.

My overall training has provided me the opportunity to work with all types of individuals who are struggling and desiring to grow in various areas. However, I am particularly passionate about working with trauma survivors, adolescents, college students, young adults, and female entrepreneurs. Let me pour you a cup of coffee or tea, and let's talk.

Orientating Towards Our True Selves | Karen Sprinkel Ancelet

Author and Somatic Experiencing Practitioner (SEP) Karen Sprinkel Ancelet joins KJ today in a conversation about bridging our highest identities so that we can truly thrive even while there is suffering.

Dear friends for over fifteen years, KJ and Karen "Sprink" explore evidence that healing IS possible. In her work, Sprink acts as a witness to the process and offers direct guidance and techniques to help one attain the life they want to live with ease and wisdom.

    Compassionate Considerations from this Story:

    • Our healing and self-nourishing are to be embodied every single day.
    • To begin opening up to deep uncovering/recovery, take 30 seconds at a time.
    • We are conscious, phenomenally-minded mammals
    • Rest is an integral part of the whole healing process.

    23. EMDR: The Basics of a Powerful Therapeutic Intervention

Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) is a treatment approach that was originally designed to alleviate the distress associated with traumatic memories. EMDR shows that the mind can, in fact, heal from psychological trauma much like the body recovers from physical trauma. In this episode, we feature expert Marisol Solarte-Erlacher, M.A., LPC. Marisol is a trauma expert, speaker, and trainer that specializes in post-traumatic growth and resilience. She is also the creator and host of the podcast Resilience and Resistance, which features successful Black, Indigenous, and Women of Color who have overcome trauma and become resilient.

As the primary therapist of her own practice, Marisol works with high-functioning adults who have experienced developmental trauma. She improves employee wellness and functionality as a consultant for corporations and nonprofits. Her dedication to Latino community is evident in her research and public-speaking engagements as well as through her previous work with the non-profits Sisters of Color United for Education.
A leader in her field, Marisol has served as a clinical supervisor, curriculum developer, report, writer, and board member for educational, non-profit, and governmental entities. She resides in Denver, CO and enjoys mountain adventures, coffee, and live music.

    S2 E26: Perfectionism, Anxiety & Brainspotting - Patrice Flanagan-Morris

    S2 E26: Perfectionism, Anxiety & Brainspotting - Patrice Flanagan-Morris

Perfectionism is the belief that everything must be perfect all the time. A perfectionist sets impossible goals, and feels crushed when they are not achieved.

    Perfectionism can look like:

    • Having a very high standard for yourself. You should achieve goals faster and better than anyone else.
    • Focus on results over the process itself - outcome focused
    • Living in a highly critical state
    • Beating yourself up for any mistake dade- making it hard to learn from mistakes because they can be so paralyzing.
    • Your worth is tied to the outcome.

    What is brainspotting?

It’s a mind/body therapy that works with your emotion brain instead of your thinking brain. When working with the emotion brain we are processing old narratives and old stories. We are reorganizing them in the brain and sometimes it looks like:

    • Gaining perspective on a situation
    • A new understanding on a situation
    • Grieving to shift the past to stay in the past.
