Enjoy part two of my conversation with John, where we go through the rest of the catalog he was a part of, as well as some behind the scenes insights and what he's up to these days.

On today's show, my sole guest, Glenn Donaldson( The Reds, Pinks, and Purples), and I discuss the labyrinth that is Fearfully and Wonderfully, as well as Glenn's love for all things Lungfish. 

Beware! You are about to enter into a stream of conversation about perhaps one of the heaviest, deepest and darkest of early Lungfish tracks. By all accounts, their first epic composition. Dan Shaw, of the band Landowner, returns to take this beast on and try and make sense of the mental carnage this song delivers. Then  author/comic book writer/musician/podcaster Patrick Kindlon (Drug Church/Self Defense Family) joins me to plumb the depths of Lungfish obsession. I admit I'm afraid,....

Have to admit, it's with a taste of sorrow that I release this episode. It's the last show covering the last album by the force of nature referred to as Lungfish. Not that there's not a handful of other albums to talk about in their catalog. There's just something so poignant and intimate about this release. At least I've got good company to say goodbye to this record with. Drew Lichtenberg is a theater worker, writer and professor. He's also a very warm guy and good friend, always up for a dive into the deepest waters of conversation. It was a pleasure having him on. Hope you enjoy. 

"Sing" is a perfectly fitting track to be released on Easter Sunday, a day of Resurrection and renewal, the morning after the pink moon of death and shedding unworthy things. This week we take the time machine back to 1985 for Gray Matter's debut lp, Food For Thought. Echoes of 60s garage, early 70s rock and late 70s English punk infuse the sound of these old soul high school kids  on this album. In addition to digging in track by track with Jeff, we talk to producer, R and B label owner and bassist extraordinaire Bert Queiroz.

A new year brings many things. This year will hopefully bring more episodes and less dis-ease. The opening one for the year is strong medicine. My guest, Paul Hutzler, spent a lot of time on the road with Lungfish and is one of the inner circle of the band. His spirit is large and his heart open, his stories riveting and his insight rare. Also on the show, for the second consecutive exegesis of You Are The War, is Brian Benke. He brings a mystical Christian perspective to the track at hand and adds much to the mystery. Well, here we are, for our first of many revisits to the Minor Threat cannon. Today we talk to  amazing punk rock photographer, Kevin Salk, Gary Bennett (Kill Your Idols/Black Anvil) and Aesop Dekker (Hickey/Ludicra). Everyone chimes in on what makes Minor Threat so damn special and gives personal insight and stories around experiences with the band and their music. In a very short time, Minor Threat left a huge legacy of both great youth anthems and also a blueprint for how to conduct yourself as a band on a mission. 

This episode we talk to the man who literally wrote the book on Outsider music, Irwin Chusid. It's a wide ranging and fascinating conversation. This week Brian and Jeff drop the needle on one of the most celebrated split records of all time. In fact, this is another record that's just too good to tackle in one episode. So this week we talk side "F". The Faith side is really the prequel to the whole Revolution Summer era, as well as Youth Crew SxE and so much more. This side is truly an enigma with a complex and insular heart. Our guest, comedian Chris Estrada, gives great insight into what this record meant to him, also what it was like to grow up in South Central, LA listening to DC hardcore in the 90s and about the intersection of punk and comedy. Put on your seatbelts, kids.This episode we're taking a road trip up to Boston! Dischord 7.5 is SSD's "The Kids Will Have Their Say", a hands-down historic and game-changing record in early hXc. Al Barile expanded Ian's idea of straight edge from a personal statement into a social and political movement with this LP. We had the pleasure of talking to Nancy Barile (a key mover and shaker in both the early Philly and Boston scenes, who writes and speaks with passion and insight about those times), Al Barile crashes the interview in the best, most unexpected way possible, and we also briefly hear opinions on "Kids" from key figures in the Boston scene (Dave Smalley, Jonathan Anastas, and Mike Gitter)! 

We've arrived at the landmark first Dischord LP. The compilation that introduced the world to mighty creativity and energy percolating in D.C. This episode introduces my new cohost, Jeff, as well as takes a deep dive into all the bands on side one of FYH. We also feature interviews with Barry Henssler, Andy Nystrom, Brian Gay and Danny Ingram! Stay tuned for more interviews and opinions when we turn the record over next week and get into side two.
