This Montrealer Got Hit By A Car and His Inner Cartoon Saved Him!
Roger Rabbit and the Christmas Factory (w/ Tim Babb)
What’s up, dudes? In 1988, “Who Framed Roger Rabbit” was a huge hit, and introduced us to the titular character. Disney then thought it was a great idea to give him his own Disneyland show! I’ve got Tim Babb from Can’t Wait for Christmas with me to talk all about this bonkers Roger Rabbit Christmas stage show! Yes, it’s “Roger Rabbit and the Christmas Factory!”
It’s Christmas Eve, and Santa’s still looking to hire an elf to help him meet his quota before the big delivery. Subsequently Murray, the elf foreman, hires Roger Rabbit. Roger is in charge of using supercomputer MACS to produce toys. As he falls behind, he cranks up the speed and accidentally halts production. Attempting to fix MACS, Roger accidentally clones himself. After he completes his repairs, he begins to once again manufacture toys. Unfortunately he picks up speed and, in a moment of sheer desperation, hits the panic button. With the supercomputer down, and the Holiday Clock reminding him time is short, Roger must rely on Santa to fix the situation.
New York accented head elf? Got it. Toon Town stylized SkyNet AI? It’s in there. Anthropomorphic Christmas trees and computer manual “Manuel?” Well… So grab your elf hat, head to Disneyland, and enjoy this episode full of Roger Rabbit Christmas shenanigans!

Bugs Bunny’s Looney Christmas Tales (w/ Robert Nicholas)
What’s up, dudes? I’ve got Robert Nicholas from Behind the Bells with me to talk all about the anthology special “Bugs Bunny’s Looney Christmas Tales!” Released in ‘79, right on the cusp of the ‘80s, it’s got 3 newly animated shorts held together by a loose framing device! Oh, and it’s quite fun and spectacular too!
The meta aspect of the special begins as Bugs Bunny, rehearsing his carolers, tells the tale of A Christmas Carol. Yosemite Sam is the miserly Scrooge who fires Porky Pig’s Cratchitt. Bugs, mischievous as ever, takes it upon himself to play the Ghost of Christmas. Sneakily, he haunts Sam by banging drums, pouring snow in his hot bath, and threatening to take him to see the “other” guy in the red suit.
As Bugs and gang sit for Christmas dinner, they congratulate each other on their acting performances of the Dickensian characters. Meanwhile, Wile E. Coyote eyes the turkey and immediately wishes he had roast roadrunner. The chase begins! Time and again the coyote is stymied by Acme products. His snow machine wallops him repeatedly, his sled dogs try to eat him, and his rocking horse leaves him.
Returning to the choir, Bugs leaves to read his nephew A Visit from St. Nicholas. Unbeknownst to the rabbits, the Tasmanian Devil escapes his confinements and accidentally hijacks Santa’s sleigh team. Trying to avoid being eaten, Bugs tricks Taz into eating an inflatable raft, levitating him away.
Taz in a Santa suit? Check. Stuttering characters trying to sing? Yup. Wile E. Coyote constantly getting crushed by snow? Definitely! So grab your acme rocket skis, bang your drums really loudly, and trick your way into this episode about “Bugs Bunny’s Looney Christmas Tales!”

Daylight savings time and routines
This episode was recorded on Sunday March 12, the first day of 2023 daylight savings time. It's amazing how much a one hour time change can upset your daily routine. We talk about that, some of the things we discussed and learned during a react speaking event in Milwaukee, and think back to the Bugs Bunny episode Bugs' Bonnets (the one where each character's personality changes when different hats land on their heads.)
Next week we'll have a special guest join us on the podcast. Reggie D. Ford. Reggie is a motivational speaker and best selling author of PTSD: Perseverance Through Severe Dysfunction. Reggie’s mission is to help people build mental resilience and lead fulfilling lives through life’s challenges. We're looking forward to the discussion.

Episode 101: A Disney World/Cape Cod Connection?; An Ounce of Prevention 80s PSA; Weirdest Music Videos; Remembering My Uncle Eric(1-12-2023)
Episode 101 fully kicks off the new year. We'll look at some intentions for 2023 and perhaps a little preview of coming attractions.
It begins with a look at The Dome Restaurant formerly of Woods Hole. Located inside an authentic geodesic dome this restaurant provides a direct link between Cape Cod and Walt Disney World thanks to the dome's creator R. Buckminster Fuller.
We go way Back In the Day to look at the Ounce of Prevention PSA short film. 80s kids will likely remember the shorter PSAs from this film that featured several beloved Looney Tunes characters warning about the dangers of getting burned inside the home.
There will be a brand new Top 5 as we gather up some of the weirdest music videos of all time. They are not necessarily all nightmare fuel(a few are), but they are no doubt different than the typical music videos. Watch them after at your own peril.
There will be a new This Week In History and Time Capsule as well.
The episode will be special and somber as well as I take a few moments to remember my Uncle Eric who passed away last week. He was an important person and leaves a large hole in the family. This episode was changed on the fly to make sure that there was a chance to reflect on his life.

TRUMP'S NOT JULIUS ROSENBERG! HE'S JUST DAFFY DUCK! 11.15.22
EPISODE 76: COUNTDOWN WITH KEITH OLBERMANN
A-Block (1:44) SPECIAL COMMENT: New leak to Washington Post clearly confesses Trump stole documents, but insists he didn't do it for evil reasons, he did it for EGO. He's not a TRAITOR! He's just a hoarder! He's not a foreign spy who might face the death penalty. He's just a collector! He's like YOU: YOU'D keep a White House cocktail napkin wouldn't you? So HE kept a White House Ultra-Classified Document (or 200 of them) (3:28) This transparent attempt to minimize the charge and the sentence again suggests it's not only unbelievably bad for Trump but it's far worse than we could possibly imagine. (6:30) "He seemed motivated by a more basic desire not to give up what he believed was his property," the Post writes, and suddenly I'm watching Bugs Bunny and Daffy Duck breaking into the den of the 40 Thieves and Daffy sees all the diamonds and gold and screams "IT'S MINE! DOWN, DOWN, DOWN! GO, GO, GO! MINE, MINE, MINE!" He's not Julius Rosenberg! He's Daffy Duck! (9:35) The Guardian also reports evidence secret documents were mixed with post-presidential letters in Trump's desk drawer. What collector doesn't do THAT? (10:15) Trump still scheduled to formalize his 2024 candidacy today, even as a London paper reports Murdoch called him personally to withdraw support.
B-Block (16:08) EVERY DOG HAS ITS DAY: Spaghetti, again (16:58) POSTSCRIPTS TO THE NEWS: Not only did Katie Hobbs win, but she was right about not debating Lake. And we need to worry about the phenomenon of not just TV types, but TV newscasters, seeking office. Plus Jay Leno is recovering and he's nicer than you know, and NBC suspended the reporter who ran the fake Pelosi conspiracy theory (21:31) THE WORST PERSONS IN THE WORLD: Virginia's hypocritical lieutenant governor takes on Elon "Bloatware" Musk and Herschel Walker attacking how Senator Warnock is raising his kids, for the dishonors.
C-Block (25:00) THINGS I PROMISED NOT TO TELL: Not one but two of my ex-ESPN colleagues entered the media wing of hockey's Hall of Fame last night. One saved my scoop about the retirement of Mario Lemieux, and the other was in the booth the night New York player Sergio Momesso was called "Sergio Mimosa."

★ Support this podcast ★About Tricksters
In mythology and the study of folklore and religion, a trickster is a character in a story who exhibits a great degree of intellect or secret knowledge and uses it to play tricks or otherwise disobey normal rules and defy conventional behavior. Today I speak with Dr. Shepherd Siegel, author of the recently published book titled Tricking Power into Performing Acts of Love, as Siegel’s work weaves together delightful stories of mischief from famous tricksters and rereads a buried historical current of people who use creativity and play to challenge authority and envision new possibilities—through music, comedy, writing, visual arts and politics.
