Episode Thirty-One - 31st January 1973 - Fish 'n' Rodd
After a month off to recuperate, Russ and Mark ease themselves back into the world of tomorrow with an extremely run-of-the-mill episode from 1973. It's just a week after the end of the Vietnam War and it doesn't seem like there's much going on at the moment (except the Cod War). Still, at least this makes for one of the shortest episodes of the podcast ever, so you can't complain about that.
Listen on as Derek Cooper narrates films about fish pheromones and tin can recycling, William Woollard tries to cause a gas explosion in an old lady's kitchen, Michael Rodd gets under the bonnet of a Morris Marina before examining a woman's legs, and our esteemed host Raymond Baxter keeps an eye on proceedings through his fancy new high-speed camera.
If you press on that link above here that says "Support the show", you can chuck us a couple of quid to show your appreciation for this nonsense (not that we expect anyone to do this)

Rob Fyfe: Chair of Recorp on his latest South Auckland can manufacturing plant investment
Rob Fyfe, former Air New Zealand boss and current chair of Recorp, has announced his latest investment- a can manufacturing plant operating out of South Auckland.
This plant is a $100 million dollar investment, and is set to make 500 million cans a year, as well as smelting them down on site eventually.
Rob Fyfe says that another can manufacturing plant in the country is a necessary investment, because there is a shortage of can manufacturing plants in New Zealand, and it's becoming harder to keep up with demand.
"We're actually importing a couple hundred million cans a year from Australia, flew in from the Tasman, because we can't produce enough. And I've been talking to a number of drinks manufacturers out there who would love to swap out their current plastic bottle lines."

Mexicoke Challenge
For years I have sworn that Mexican Coca Cola with its cane sugar and glass bottle tastes better than American Coca Cola with its high fructose corn syrup in plastic bottles. Coca Cola says we cannot tell the difference. I do a blind taste test to find out who is correct, once and for all!
Bryce & Jill Morrison
Bryce and Jill Morrison are the co-founders of Mom Water. All-natural, non-carbonated, and available in flavors like the Julie (passionfruit) and the Karen (lemon-blueberry), Jill and Bryce created Mom Water for their group of parent friends before marketing it to the masses in four US states and counting. The beverage gained popularity through social media sites like TikTok, but also organically through the network of moms they discovered while creating the brand. “I've discovered how moms, when they like something or dislike something, they love to share it with all their friends. It’s this tight-knit community. They want to share that thing that they found with all the other moms, even though they might not have any other common ground.”
By making what they wanted to see on the market, Bryce and Julie created a product and a brand that resonates both universally and with a specific, powerful-yet-untapped group.
Cork Free! Rose' Bubbles in a Can!
In this episode, The Wine Pair tastes and reviews three sparkling rose’ wines in a can. What did you say?!? A can?!? YES! This is fun wine, and perfect for a weeknight celebration! While on an anniversary trip in Honolulu, Joe and Carmela visited an ABC Store, found some canned sparkling wine, and decided to try it. Mind blown! The Wine Pair also talk about the magic of the 8th floor pool at the Halepuna on Waikiki, the flavor profiles of sparkling rose’, and the wonders of wine in a can. Consider the following. Cans don’t break! Cans are easy to carry and store! Cans don’t require a corkscrew! Wines reviewed in this episode include Underwood Sparkling Rose’, House Wine Sparkling Rose’, and 14 Hands Unicorn Sparkling Rose’. You have to listen to the episode to find out, but you might be very surprised to find out that the cans fared very well in the tasting and reviewing! Find out which of these taste like a Jolly Rancher, which tastes like grapefruit, which tastes like the syrup of canned fruit, and which tastes like strawberries and cream. You even get a quick lesson on how to get red wine stains out of your Seahawks hoodie.

Barrel Aged Beers: More Interesting than Hard Seltzers
This week on Beer Sessions Radio, Jimmy is hearing from three experts in barrel aging. He welcomes previous co-host Ben Keene, a beer, cider, and travel writer from Seattle, WA; Matt Lincoln from Fremont Brewing in Seattle, WA; and Jake Endres from Crooked Run Brewing in Sterling, VA.
Ben kicks off the conversation by explaining the differences barrel aging can make, highlighting the complexity and bold intensity the process brings to beers. Matt emphasizes the layering of flavors that barrel aging offers, as well as the unique characteristics of each individual spirit barrel. Then, Jake lets us in on a couple of brewing secrets, including why Black Friday is such a big day for new beer releases, and how aged hops should be your best friend. Plus, the group walks Jimmy through the aging process from brew to bottle, or more recently, cans, which they all agree have accelerated in popularity during Covid-19. Finally, Ben, Jake, and Matt offer up a couple of barrel-aged inspirations for anyone looking to try out a new brewery.
Beer List -
Ben: Ferment Brewing Company
Jake: Pen Druid Brewing and Allagash Brewing Company
Matt: Perennial Artisan Ales
