The discussion delves into the intricacies of business growth, with specific attention given to Mark Asquith's journey with Captivate and other ventures.

The conversation begins by exploring the concept of a business mindset and rapidly moves into the narrative of Captivate—its inception, rapid development, and eventual acquisition. Mark Asquith emphasizes the importance of building a business with customer-focused product development and exceptional service, discussing his experiences before and after the acquisition. Integral to the talk is his approach to entrepreneurship, financial management, and achieving work-life balance as a business owner and family man.

    Key Takeaways:

    • A business mindset comprises the integration of personal passion with problem-solving for customers, leading to a successful balance of work and life objectives.
    • Building a business involves meticulous financial planning, understanding market demands, and strong product development.
    • The acquisition of a business can align with personal and professional aspirations, especially when culture and values are echoed by the acquiring entity.
    • Navigating the landscape of podcasting requires adaptability and recognition of various content consumption platforms, including traditional RSS feeds and modern multimedia channels.
    • Legacy in business transcends material success, reflecting in the values passed down to future generations and the societal impact made through entrepreneurial ventures.

60 Seconds for Wednesdays on Whidbey: What Happens When You Engage Your Audience With Your Heartfelt Story?

60 Seconds for Wednesdays on Whidbey: What Happens When You Engage Your Audience With Your Heartfelt Story?

Hello to you listening in Sofia, Capital of Bulgaria, Europe!

Coming to you from Whidbey Island, Washington, this is Stories From Women Who Walk with 60 Seconds (and a bit more) for Wednesdays on Whidbey and your host, Diane Wyzga.

Albert Einstein, a world famous scientist, asserted, "Imagination is more important than knowledge." Why is that? The reason is simple: our imagination isn't just a creative tool; having an imagination and using our imagination influences everything we do, think about and create. Our imagination is the driving force behind our theories, dreams,  inventions, ideas, innovations, creations, and solutions. Without the power to imagine and dream we could not unlock the boundless possibilities our minds can envision.

But wait! There’s more to this tale. Imagination is the beating heart of storytelling! It allows both storyteller and listener to co-create mental images and emotional connections with the narrative. Imagination is the bridge between the words or images used in the story and the experience of being in the story. When you engage your listener’s imagination with what I call a “heartfelt story artfully told” you invite them into the very heart of your narrative where they can see parallels in the story's plot and characters, and the events and people in their own life.

    Question: How does this work?

Answer: To learn more click this LINK to listen to my newly launched Quarter Moon Story Arts NewsAudioLetter where I talk about the role of imagination to captivate, invigorate and empower your audience. About Vicki Noethling

Vicki Noethling is a speaker, trainer and coach focusing on public speaking and leadership. She also has an anti-aging/wellness business which compliments her public speaking business well. Helping entrepreneurs, especially women find their voice is a passion. She is a best-selling author and host of The Find Your Leadership Confidence Podcast.

    Show Notes

Leaders have to coach, counsel, encourage and motivate. How we say what we say matters.

By first writing down our thoughts we  become better speakers, teachers, mentors, and coaches.

Issues in speaking (and teaching, mentoring, and coaching) come from a lack of clear, concise communication.

Our words, and tone, need to come from our gut.

Before we respond it's critical to take time to listen to the other person. Actively listen to what is said.

When speaking publicly in person arrive early enough so you can talk to people in the audience. Make sure your talk is going to resonate by asking what brought them today, what they hope to learn, what their experience has been, etc.

When speaking on Zoom, arrive early and engage with people there. Use the chat. Invite people to answer your questions in the chat so you can hear from more people. Ask the same questions you would in a live event.

During your talk, when telling your stories, do it in a way that makes the person who is listening see themselves in the story (i.e. the same thing happened to me! Or, I feel the same way). Be relatable.

Be yourself and connect with the people who resonate with you and your story. You don't need to try to be anyone else (like a speaker you admire or who has trained you).

Use your facial expression and gestures to connect with people. Vary your expression, your tone, and your energy.

Make your talk like a song. Songs have hooks, verses, choruses, bridges, dynamics, intros, and outros.  Listen to music and notice all the ways songs keep you engaged. Use the same ideas to make your talk engaging and keep people leaning in.

Listen to the radio announcers to understand vocal variety.

Use This Framework to Tell Stories That Connect (and Convert) with Marisa Corcoran

Use This Framework to Tell Stories That Connect (and Convert) with Marisa Corcoran

Episode #220. “Storytelling is our oldest form of communication. Studies show that parts of the brain literally light up when stories are being told and that people tend to absorb information better. With a story, it’s an easier pill to swallow.”

So HOW do we tell stories that captivate and convert our communities? That is why I invited Marisa Corcoran to join us! I’m a big fan of frameworks, but with storytelling, sometimes frameworks can be too stifling or complicated. Marisa’s approach, the story strip-down method makes it easy to figure out which stories to tell and how to tell them!

PLUS…I ever-so-bravely volunteered to workshop a story using this method! You can hear us in real-time working through it and bringing it to life!

    In This Episode You’ll Learn:

    • The must-have tool to help streamline (and uplevel) your copy
    • Marisa’s philosophy on copy (hint: it’s EVERYTHING!)
    • The actor-training technique you can apply to your own storytelling
    • The step-by-step framework for telling compelling stories that convert!
    • How to figure out which stories to tell

    Favorite Quotes

“Copy isn't the icing on the cake. It is the cake. It’s the butter, the flour, the eggs. It's how all these other things that we want to make come to life in our business happen.”

“Storytelling is our oldest form of communication. Studies show that parts of the brain literally light up when stories are being told and that people tend to absorb information better. With a story, it’s an easier pill to swallow.”

“Writing is a skill that’ll really serve you no matter what stage you're in. Especially if you don’t want to hand your work over to a copywriter, at some point, you're going to be more well-versed in your own voice and what you want it to sound like and have a way better relationship with that.”

    More about Marisa:
Ready to discover what to say and how to say it to magnetically attract your dream clients? Then you need Marisa Corcoran in your corner...

    Mistaking Identities - John 1:19-34

    Mistaking Identities - John 1:19-34

And this is the testimony of John, when the Jews sent priests and Levites from Jerusalem to ask him, “Who are you?” 20 He confessed, and did not deny, but confessed, “I am not the Christ.” 21 And they asked him, “What then? Are you Elijah?” He said, “I am not.” “Are you the Prophet?” And he answered, “No.” 22 So they said to him, “Who are you? We need to give an answer to those who sent us. What do you say about yourself?” 23He said, “I am the voice of one crying out in the wilderness, ‘Make straight the way of the Lord,’ as the prophet Isaiah said.”24 (Now they had been sent from the Pharisees.) 25 They asked him, “Then why are you baptizing, if you are neither the Christ, nor Elijah, nor the Prophet?” 26 John answered them, “I baptize with water, but among you stands one you do not know, 27 even he who comes after me, the strap of whose sandal I am not worthy to untie.” 28 These things took place in Bethany across the Jordan, where John was baptizing.29 The next day he saw Jesus coming toward him, and said, “Behold, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world! 30 This is he of whom I said, ‘After me comes a man who ranks before me, because he was before me.’ 31 I myself did not know him, but for this purpose I came baptizing with water, that he might be revealed to Israel.” 32 And John bore witness: “I saw the Spirit descend from heaven like a dove, and it remained on him. 33 I myself did not know him, but he who sent me to baptize with water said to me, ‘He on whom you see the Spirit descend and remain, this is he who baptizes with the Holy Spirit.’ 34 And I have seen and have borne witness that this is the Son of God.”

    1.   Why do you think it’s so hard for the world (and us) to recognize who is Christ?

    2.    Is there anything or anyone in the world you confuse with the work or person of Christ?

    3.    Have you ever experienced a change in your sense of identity as you experienced some success or notoriety?

    4.    In what situations do you need to be reminded that you are not Christ?

    5.    What captivates you?  How does it shape your life?

    6.    Can you imagine for yourself being captivated by Jesus like John is?  Do you want that?  If so, what do you hope to do about    it?
