As a child Glenda felt shy. Looking out her window to neighbors and passerby, she would make up stories about them. Hiding a flashlight under her bed for emergencies, Glenda used it to read her favorite books, sitting up in bed with the blankets pulled over her head, she pretended to be in a tent.Her first book, part of a series, "Periwinkle's Magic", is inspired by a bedtime story she created -about adventures with Periwinkle, a magical gnome, and Mac the McCaw, a parrot-that she would tell her daughters. Her oldest daughter; Emily, would add little tidbits to the stories.Giggling with Glenda, her kids and grandkids laughed out loud whenever she shared these stories. Glenda's message is a reminder to children that using imagination throughout reading helps you get through things, enjoy life, and believe that anything is possible.Ms. Tinsley lives in Sacramento, with her husband, near green-belt areas and a lake-with ducks, fish, frogs, geese and turtles.

Bio:
Wife, mother, grandmother, & great-grandmother of 2. Debra re-married after her first husband John died in 2016. A volunteer working with children in various capacities since 1986, including 3 years at a local primary (elementary) school from 2017-2019. She has self-published 3 Middle-Grade novels between 2017-2019, plus 3 short stories published in children's anthologies in 2019 & 2021; with some short adult stories published on Reedsy.com . Debra’s latest title is a Juvenile Fiction Chapter Book, a fun story involving a Persian cat detective, and a nefarious gang of rats. It's a bit of a spy-detective spoof for children aged 7-11 years. Debra became interested in writing for children after observing how many struggled with their reading and comprehension in the classroom. Her aim is to encourage and inspire kids to read and imagine. Debra Clewer lives in the Southern Australian state of Tasmania.

This book strangely celebrates our hard times in that we can end up strengthened... we can learn GRIT. If children can learn this concept they can find meaning and morale in their hard times. This is a concept that all of our children can benefit from. I certainly wish I had learnt it as a child.

We all feel like outsiders at some point, perhaps often. This book takes your child by the hand and helps them learn to flip this experience and actually find connection through being different.
