Episode 5: What is a Worldview, Pt. 1?

Have you ever wondered why people do what they do or say what they say? Much of this behavior is a clear indication of the person's worldview i.e. the way they view the world. The majority of these views are largely different from the Christian worldview. Listen in as Joe, Brian, and Luke give a 'birds-eye' view of these often-mystifying and misunderstood lenses. In this first part of a two-part episode of Paratus, Dr. Holden, Dr. Nixon, and Luke Betzner discuss worldviews, providing an overview of seven prominent perspectives.

Making College Visits? How To Prepare For The College Search And The Visit | Moira McCullough, College Scoops | Back To School & Off To College Series

In this next installment of our Back To School & Off To College Series, Moira McCullough from College Scoops is here to discuss preparing for the college search, the importance of that preparation, and how it can make college visits rewarding and informational instead of fear, confusion, and dread filled.

It is important to be well-armed to make informed decisions through the college journey and Moira and College Scoops are working hard to make sure that all of your pain point questions and concerns are addressed before you invest in an on-campus visit.

Here are a few of the takeaways, but a complete list will be available in The New Old You Newsletter that you can get here:

    1. College is so expensive and such an investment these days that it is important to support your kids to get the best possible information that they need in a college search.
    2. Planning and then taking college trips and making college visits is a perfect way to spend time with your kid with a total focus on them. It is a great way to get to know them a little better at this age. You will learn things about them you never knew.
    3. College visits are the aspect of the college journey that you have control of. You can put yourself in the drivers seat. It’s important to remember that YOU are the customer of the college
    4. The interactive videos available on College Scoops are very different from the videos provided by colleges on their website. These videos answer the pain point questions of students and parents as they prepare to visit a specific school
    5. You should start looking at local college first. Just start exploring your local area schools.

    Karyl Kicenski: A Professor's Perspective

    Karyl Kicenski: A Professor's Perspective
I speak with Dr. Karyl Kicenski who is my professor in my Communications and Identity course at UCLA. Kicenski earned her undergraduate and master's degrees at Cal State Northridge and her Ph.D. at George Mason University. Her degrees cover the field of Communication Studies in addition to Cultural Studies. In her research and in the classroom she aims to uncover the links between the expression of ideas and the structures of social power and privilege. Upon taking her class this quarter I have learned about the power of perception and the making of the self. I wanted to have Dr. Kicenski on my podcast to further discuss compelling things we discuss in class as well as learn about her career in teaching. I was surprised to learn about how she barely had a C average in high school and for a long time never had any aspirations to become a professor. The conversations we have are both enriching and enlightening. They highlight that not everybody's path in life is linear, and to truly trust the educational process. Dr. Kicenski gives current college students sound advice from a professor's perspective and shares her knowledge and wisdom.
