Not Gonna Be Able To Do It

Not Gonna Be Able To Do It

This episode discusses the benefit of working hard even when you feel you are not going to be able to do what is required. The Savage Siblings take a dive into the appeal of what is easy in life.  Andre and Anitra connect this concept to the sibling experiences and responsibilities that they didn’t want to do from simple chores to complex decisions.  They discuss the consequences of choosing the easy way rather than the “right” way.  They share examples of the importance of ethical choices in life that have a direct impact on your future.  This episode is for you if you’re struggling with learning to embrace the challenges that life brings and are tempted to find an easy answer rather than building courage, fortitude and patience.  If you find that your ethics were shaped by negative childhood experiences that you find difficult to change, take a listen!  If you reflect on how you enjoy meeting the challenges, don’t go anywhere, this is the episode for you. The Savage Siblings give you hope and incentive to meet the challenges of life in spite of the appeal of easy.

Episode 5: What is a Worldview, Pt. 1?

Episode 5: What is a Worldview, Pt. 1?

Have you ever wondered why people do what they do or say what they say? Much of this behavior is a clear indication of the person's worldview i.e. the way they view the world. The majority of these views are largely different from the Christian worldview. Listen in as Joe, Brian, and Luke give a 'birds-eye' view of these often-mystifying and misunderstood lenses. In this first part of a two-part episode of Paratus, Dr. Holden, Dr. Nixon, and Luke Betzner discuss worldviews, providing an overview of seven prominent perspectives.

The Unity of Body and Soul: Truth About Gender (Special Podcast Highlight)

The Unity of Body and Soul: Truth About Gender (Special Podcast Highlight)

Do you know someone who struggles with gender ideology? You may feel confused, conflicted, and not sure of how to show true compassion. You can get sound encouragement and advice in this podcast.

In the clip of "Trending with Timmerie," the main focus is on the teachings of the Catholic Church regarding the body and soul, especially in the context of the contemporary gender identity crisis. Key points from Timmerie include:

    1. Identity Crisis: The modern world is facing an identity crisis where individuals are questioning their identities, beliefs, and purpose. There are some who hate their bodies and who God created them to be. This is not limited to the transgender community but is pervasive across different groups of people.

    2. The Body and Soul Unity Document: The San Francisco Archbishop Salvador Cordileone and Oakland Bishop Michael Barber released a joint document titled "Body and Soul Unity of the Human Person." It emphasizes the teachings of the Catholic Church on human sexuality, gender, marriage, and their implications for the gender crisis.

    3. Gender Ideology: The document acknowledges the rise of gender ideology in today's society. This ideology is seen as contrary to the Church's teachings as it denies aspects like male and female differences, the unity of body and soul, and the anthropological basis of the family.

    4. Body-Soul Unity: The Church emphasizes the unity of body and soul, asserting that one cannot be a different gender trapped in a body. The belief is that body and soul are created together at conception, making them inseparable.

    5. Image of God: Being male or female is seen as a divine creation and is viewed as a good, willed by God. The complementary nature of males and females is understood to reflect the Trinitarian nature of God.

    6. Challenge of Gender Ideology: The Church acknowledges the challenges faced by those struggling with their gender identity. While the Church stands by her teachings, it also stresses compassion and love towards everyone.

    7. Compassion vs. Approval: An essential distinction is made between being compassionate towards someone and approving of their choices or behavior. True compassion, according to the Church, involves both truth and charity.

    8. Guidance for those with Gender Dysphoria: For those experiencing gender dysphoria, the Church recommends approaching the issue with a combination of understanding the teachings of the Church, seeking genuine Christian charity, and focusing on the truth about the human person. The emphasis is on loving the person while not necessarily endorsing every choice or behavior.

Get In Where You Fit In ~ Part Two

Welcome to part two of Get in Where You Fit In.   This episode emphasizes the importance of enjoying who you are and what you’re doing to be your authentic self.  Andre and Anitra evaluate examples of unique people who refuse to conform to the norm, but have the confidence to embrace their individuality. Dre unpacks how the position of the older sibling has inherent expectations that limit choice and can create frustration and Anitra speaks from the perspective of the younger sibling and the difference between “have to” versus “get to.”

If you wonder why you didn’t feel like you belonged to your family, you will relate to this episode.  If you wondered how your family felt overwhelmed with family expectations, take a listen.  The Savage Siblings reflect on the difference between being needed and belonging to the family. Most of know the story of Jonah, but maybe there's a lot that we missed! And maybe the parts we missed are the most significant parts of the book. The book of Jonah is so much more than a book about a guy running from God who gets thrown into the sea, swallowed by a big fish, was saved by God, and then learns his lesson that you can't run from God. Jonah had much bigger problems than sitting in the belly of a fish. He had really bad theology and had no compassion for unbelievers - both the sailors and the people of Nineveh. Join us as we go dive into the book of Jonah and unearth some of its treasures!

What's It To You!?! Part Two

What's It To You!?! Part Two

This episode discusses understanding the differences between valuation and validation in our lives. How and what we value in our lives and what we consider valid in our lives.  Andre and Anitra share examples of how we use this knowledge to make decisions and the importance of your sibling relationship in defining valuation and validation.

Have you ever wondered what determines your value system?  Or even the relationships that you consider valuable and how we justify and validate those relationships.  The episode explores the impact that value and validation have on each other and how we use that scale to invest in or disconnect in the relationships in our lives.

Let’s take a deep dive into defining value and validity and the influence of our family experiences based on the choices that come from those definitions. This episode is for you if you question your worth, if others seem to lack value in who you are in their lives, and/or if you often do not feel accepted in your current relationships.  The Savage Siblings share ways to avoid indecisiveness, understand your worth and choose to move forward beyond validation to purpose.

What's It To You!?! Part One

What's It To You!?! Part One

Episode 186 - The Game Plan - Going for the Gold Part 14

Episode 186 - The Game Plan - Going for the Gold Part 14

Every individual or team going for the gold needs a game plan! For the Christian church going for the crown, that is liturgy. Liturgy is not formal, traditional worship as most believe. It's actually just the order of the worship service - It's the game plan for Sunday mornings. What does the Bible tell us about the worship service? Does it give suggestions of music, sermons, prayers, or anything else? More specifically, what does Paul have to say about it in 1 Corinthians 14? Join us as we are in the homestretch of Going for the Gold in 2023!

    Episode 9 - Blasphemy!! Leviticus 24:10 - 16

In Leviticus 24:10 - 16, an Israelite man blasphemes God and God orders that the man be stoned to death.

What exactly is blasphemy? Is it really deserving of death? Is Old Testament blasphemy anything like blaspheming the Holy Spirit in the New Testament?

Episode 180 - The Free Agents & The Rookies - Going for the Gold in 2023 Part 8

Whether we are a rookie Christian or a veteran, we have been given Christian liberties. The Bible gives us freedoms in many peripheral issues like smoking, drinking, getting a tatoo, playing video games, listening to secular music, etc. But some Christians will argue these aren't peripheral issues at all, but absolutes.

Paul has a lot to say about this issue in 1 Corinthians chapter 8. If we are free to do certain things, does that mean we always should or even ever should? If a weaker brother or sister feels like we are making them stumble, do they have the right to demand we cease and desist our behavior?  Where does consideration for the weaker brother or sister become tyranny by the weaker brother or sister?

Episode 74 - Literally, the Beginning.

In this episode, we explore the story of Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden and the many ways in which it has been understood and interpreted throughout history.
