    The Northman

    The Northman

The Northman, stórmynd þeirra Robert Eggers og Sjóns, fjallar um hefnd í heimi ofbeldis og örlagatrúar og blandar saman Hollywood-leikurum á borð við Nicole Kidman, Willem Defoe, Ethan Hawke og Önnu-Taylor Joy og norrænum leikurum á borð við Alexander Skarsgård, Claes Bang, Ingvar E. Sigurðsson og Björk.

En hverjir eru snertifletirnir við aðrar víkingamyndir eins og Hrafninn flýgur eða sjálfan Hamlet? Já, eða miðaldamyndir á borð við Excalibur, Conan the Barbarian og The Green Knight? Og eru Íslendingar líklegir til þess að fara að vinna meira sjálfir úr þessum sagnaarfi eða er það mögulega alltof dýrt?

Við fengum þrjá leikstjóra til að ræða allt þetta og meira til, þá Ragnar Bragason, Ásgrím Sverrisson og Hauk Valdimar Pálsson, en sá síðastnefndi kom lítillega að leikmyndahönnun myndarinnar, hannaði meðal annars leikmynd eftir málverki Da Vinci. Við ræðum einnig heimsbíó frá Ástralíu, Kóreu, Frakklandi og Úkraínu og margt fleira.

Alþýðufélagið styrkir Samstöðina. Alþýðufélagið hefur það markmið að auðga og bæta umræðu í samfélaginu. Allir geta gengið í Alþýðufélagið og styrkt þar með efni og útbreiðslu Samstöðvarinnar. Takk fyrir stuðninginn

249 - H.P. Lovecraft, the Cthulhu Mythos, and the Horror You Love Today

Hope you have as fun listening to this one as I had making it! I had no idea prior to digging into this topic, that Lovecraft was so influential on modern horror. Like Stranger Things? Heavily influenced by Lovecraft. Like Stephen King's It? The cosmic monster who presents as Pennywise is a creature who could have come directly from the Cthulhu mythos. Much of the Twilight Zone, the X-Files, the BBC's Black Mirror and more - so influenced by Lovecraft. And, in a way, fictional universes like the Marvel cinematic universe and George Lucas's Star Wars universe - influenced by the cosmic worldbuilding of Lovecraft. We feel a lot of his influence today - but who was the man? We'll take a look at that as well - including the ugly parts. And we'll meet some of his creatures and dissect the structure of some of Lovecraft's most influential stories. A very Weird Tales edition of Timesuck awaits!

    #044: Top of the Pulps

    #044: Top of the Pulps

As an homage to the spooky fiction that laid the groundwork for the genre work that Your Generals enjoy these days, this week they take a look back to the pulp fiction of the early 1900s. Particularly they have zeroed in on a few stories from three celebrated authors, Clark Ashton Smith, Robert E. Howard, and H. P. Lovecraft. The stories that Zac and Tyler will talk about today are "The Return of the Sorceror", "The Tower of the Elephant", and "The Rats in the Walls" respectively. Come join in as they take a trip back and see how weird things got when three masters of the craft ply their trade. Also with news from The Witcher, Ms. Marvel, and more!

Zac's Recommendation: Worms of the Earth by Robert E. Howard and Kings of the Night by Robert E. Howard

    Tyler's Recommendation: Solomon Kane
