Interview - Nicole Maines talks Suicide Squad: Dream Team #1 out March 12 (artist Eddy Barrows) and Bad Dream: A Dreamer Story TPB out April 2 (artist Rye Hickman)

    1. Nicole Maines, thank you for being on the AIPT comics podcast for the second time! Nathan and I are big Dreamer fans and have been greatly anticipating your graphic novel for some time, but to start, Suicide Squad: Dream Team is out March 12, can you talk about putting together this very unique lineup for the team?
    2. You’re so good at capturing the different voice of each character, I particularly liked Waller, how do you approach writing dialogue?
    3. Dreamer is still getting acquainted with her powers, some of which we get to see in new ways thanks to Eddy Burrows in the first issue. Is her acclimation to her powers a central part of her character growth?
    4. Shifting gears to Bad Dream, a true origin story for our hero, was there a guiding light as far as its focus and tone?
    5. We’re Galaxy stans here at AIPT. Tell us about your convos with Jadzia Axelrod when it came time to incorporate Taylor in the book! How fun was it writing Kat, Yvette, and Taylor?
    6. The ball in Bad Dream is one of the most joyful things I’ve seen in a comic book. Did you draw on any of your own experiences in building a found family or friend group in this section of the book?
    7. Did you and Rye do a lot of back and forth coming up with the unbelievable outfits and crowd scenes here? Take us through your collaboration in general! The dream sequences are gorgeous too.
    8. If Bad Dream was a song, what would it be and why?

18 - Fangoria Magazine with Daniel Kraus

18 - Fangoria Magazine with Daniel Kraus

On episode 18 of Our First Fears, NY Times and USA Today bestselling author, Daniel Kraus joins me in a conversation about Fangoria Magazine – the tentpole horror movie publication that debuted in the late 1970s and quickly became a shocking staple on magazine stands and in bookshops due to the gory horror makeup effects and grody titles displayed on its covers.

Daniel Kraus is the co-creator of The Shape of Water with Guillermo Del Toro, the co-author of The Living Dead with George A. Romero, and the author of the Bram Stoker Award winner They Stole Our Hearts, part two of his eery middle-grade Teddies Saga trilogy.

Daniel’s recent book, Whalefall, has been making big waves. Thrilling, grotesque, and heart-punching, it’s a science-based story about a young scuba diver who is swallowed by a whale, and what he must do if he hopes to escape. You’re gonna wanna read this one. Trust me.

Along the way, we consider the coding of Henry and Dexter’s relationship, expound upon the actual nature of boxed Yeti powers, pour ourselves some Booze Milk, then consider who qualifies as a “sack of wet,” and debate whether The Crate Creature is actually the second half of a Strangers On A Train-like murder swap! All this, plus a fantasy-infused edition of Choose Your Own Deathventure, and Billie introduces the world to the Pittsburg Laverne! "Open up and say AAHHH!!!" with us today!!

Kick back with some sauce as Creepshow Vol. 2, The Lonesome Death of Jordy Verrill, crashes into us! Here to help us pry open this meteoric segment of the movie with us is another one of the gang from We Hate Movies and a Returning Champion - the one the only Eric Szyszka!! All this, plus a version of Choose Your Own Deathventure that’s bound to grow on you, consider good luck, Greedos, and we pitch ways to rehabilitate the image of everyone’s least favorite fortified wine, Ripple!!
