PROOF – Capital Punishment Deters Crime (In Japan)

PROOF – Capital Punishment Deters Crime (In Japan)

Have you heard that America has twenty times the homicide rate of Japan?  Have you heard why that is?  You have probably been told it’s because there are so few guns there.
That’s not it at all.  There are cultural differences which are significant.  But there are differences in their criminal justice system which are huge.  One of those differences is capital punishment.
The Japanese like the feeling of safety they enjoy in their country.  The majority also support capital punishment.
Is the execution of a criminal abhorrent?  Yes.
    Murder is worse.

Cassie Connection - Domestic Violence in Division I Football, Hollywood and at Oxford High

Cassie Connection - Domestic Violence in Division I Football, Hollywood and at Oxford High

Jennifer Crumbley is going to prison, caught in the jaws of power abuse.  The prosecutor is more interested in personal fame than in justice, and shining a light on domestic violence would expose her own culpability.

Follow the trail from small-town tragedy - the Oxford Targeted Shooting - to Division One football, the corporate world and Hollywood, not to mention the mainstream media and even academia, because the individual most at fault for the tragedy has powerful connections in each of these worlds.

Connections moulded in the fire of domestic violence.  Violence committed by a Division I football coach and a rap star, Sean Puffy Combs.

It's easier to prosecute a helpless mother - Jennifer Crumbley -  with no resources, than to attack a woman with powerful friends, one whose dereliction exposes that prosecutor's own culpability.

And it gives a selfish prosecutor much more glory to lead "the first prosecution of parents" than it would to simply identify the one employee at Oxford schools who had the power, and the job description, to have prevented the massacre.

Feeding the hungry mob of "Moms Who Need a Cause"  is an added bonus.

Correction: The mention of Stanford U is an error; it was Vanderbilt

Call Me "Irresponsible" I'm Immune, I work for the SCHOOL!!

Call Me "Irresponsible" I'm Immune, I work for the SCHOOL!!

You’re in charge of children’s safety at a high school.   When a shooter attacks, you would be in lots of trouble, right?   Maybe not.

The parents of the shooter are in jail without breaking any laws, but the administrators of Oxford Schools are either unaffected or benefitted from the tragedy, despite proof of being in violation of policy by an investigation.

Five are named in the investigation; none are punished and one is actually praised.  What happened to each one?

What punishment have school staff received for real infractions?

    None, I'm afraid.

Jail the Parents? Maybe You'll Be Next

Jail the Parents? Maybe You'll Be Next

In part two of the series on the aftermath of the 2021 Oxford High School shooting we contrast the fate of the shooter's parents, jailed for their son's actions, with the apparent immunity of school administrators despite identified failures. The epsiode scrutinizes the accusations against the parents, including the purchase of a gun and alleged negligence in foreseeing their son's violent behavior, highlighting the lack of legal basis for such charges.
The investigation, conducted by Guidepost Solutions, is critiqued for its focus on blaming the parents while overlooking the school's failure to follow its own policies and standard security practices. The facts indicate that the school's decision-making, particularly regarding the shooter's behavior and the handling of the situation, contributed significantly to the tragedy.
Further, the channel explores broader issues of gun ownership, societal attitudes towards guns, and the role of schools in managing student behavior and potential threats. It questions the effectiveness of current approaches to school safety and gun laws, suggesting a need for more comprehensive strategies that address underlying issues such as mental health and bullying.
The episode concludes by calling for a reevaluation of school policies and societal attitudes towards gun ownership and mental health, advocating for a more engaged approach to prevent such tragedies in the future.

"Bully High" - The Oxford School Shooting Backstory

"Bully High" - The Oxford School Shooting Backstory

An independent investigation says Oxford High could have prevented the deaths of four and woundings of seven others in 2021.  That statement is incomplete. The school caused the attack.

Previous video showed how schools in America emphasize sports scholarships over progress for all students.

Our schools marginalize kids and create bullying situations.  Did that happen at Oxford high? Yes.  Bullied students were suicide victims in 2012 and 2013.  In 2017 they were featured on ABC news.

Authorities have been silent on bullying in the Crumley case, but he was exposed to significant risk factors in his life.

The failure of the school to prevent the attack is now well recognized.  Why the attack became inevitable; this factor has been ignored, and the professionals who failed go unpunished.

153: Gun Culture Deserves to Disappear

153: Gun Culture Deserves to Disappear

At the beating heart of this community and culture is the idea that all men are created equal. That there is no distinction between citizen and soldier when it comes to rights. That there is no difference between free man and party member when it comes to using logic and reason to regulate ourselves and our country.

Or at least that is the ideal. This scathing criticism of Gun Culture comes at the heels of yet another case where our enemies amass social and fiscal capital to be wielded in economic warfare against us, while we complain to our hearts malcontent in order to eek by another day and another year.

And that is the way we will move forward: step by bloody step. We will be discouraged, but we will not be defeated. We will be downtrodden but we will not be made to beg. We will be betrayed, but we will not give up hope that this culture and this community, and this moral philosophy which grounds our rights as free men will never be wiped from the face of the earth until every one of us is no longer here to carry it in our hearts.

In the Muppet justice system, the Muppets are represented by two separate, yet equally important groups: the podcasters who investigate the crimes, and the other podcasters who prosecute the Muppet offenders. These are their stories.

From Retribution to Restoration: A Conversation about Restorative Justice with Vanessa Slater

From Retribution to Restoration: A Conversation about Restorative Justice with Vanessa Slater

"The retributive focus of the colonial legal system results in much trauma, particularly with respect to criminal justice. The enlightenment that comes with becoming trauma-informed can assist lawyers, decision makers and others involved in addressing conflict to overcome deep-rooted systemic hurdles. Viewing conflict through a relational lens which embraces principles of restorative justice supports relinquishing control over the achievement of “justice” and instead focusing on restoration." - Vanessa Slater

Recall, George Gascón, and the troubles of progressive D.A.s

Recall, George Gascón, and the troubles of progressive D.A.s

Los Angeles County Dist. Atty. George Gascón has a policing pedigree like few others. Army veteran. Patrol officer in Los Angeles. Police chief in San Francisco before becoming D.A. there. Now, he’s in charge of the D.A.’s office in L.A., one of the largest in the country. He’s part of a wave of progressive district attorneys who have won elections in some of America’s largest cities with a promise to radically reform their offices. And he’s currently the subject of a recall effort. Today, we tackle this blowback, talking to L.A. Times crimes and policing reporter James Queally, a member of the Recall Gascón campaign, and Gascón himself.

From the Classroom to the Courtroom with Darleen Cantelo

From the Classroom to the Courtroom with Darleen Cantelo

The law is definitely not static. Once you’re in it, there are many paths you can take. This is exactly what Darleen Cantelo found as she found herself entering law school. Now she’s taken many different twists and turns and is sharing her experience from the classroom to the courtroom.

Darlene’s mother was also an attorney and pushed all throughout her childhood for her to take a different path, but the law kept calling her. She took Latin in high school, majored in political science in college, and was set to do her part in the legal system.

But she wasn’t against finding other opportunities as well. She took an internship at a business while she was working on her Bachelor’s degree that only solidified her need to go into law school.

What she found however was that the law is extremely diverse. She was very interested in intellectual property law and all the different facets of protecting ideas and patents, but found that in order to specialize in that field she had to have a science background.

After finishing law school, she started in business law and took on a few Innocence Project cases as well. She has practiced many different forms of law and been involved in tons of different cases.

Listen as she shares her story and why it’s important to approach the law from the lens of your own experiences and interests. If you’re a huge video game buff, bring that to the table in law school. You’d be surprised to find how your interests can make your legal career even more exciting.

    In this episode:

[01:58] Welcome to the show, Darleen!

[06:51] She speaks about her mom and her response to her being an attorney.

[11:53] The most famous intellectual property is a trade secret which is the recipe for Coca Cola.

[15:47] What you need to think about when deciding what type of law you want to practice.

[19:19] Lots of people start out in public practice to get experience and then go to a private practice.

[23:13] Take an internship to help you decide if you want to be a lawyer in the first place.

[26:10] Cases that she is proud of.

[28:10] What made her transition from working on the Innocence Project to working in compliance.

[30:59] She is helping the agency she works for to meet goals that are required by the federal government.

[34:03] Three pros of being in law.

[35:48] And she shares the cons of practicing law.

[40:58] Final thoughts about practicing different types of law.

[42:04] Thank you for being on the show!

CONFESSION: Jesus is Lord. Crime and Punishment. "Sins" vs. "sin." Lying games.

Confession refers to a public acknowledgement. The New Testament describes two specific contexts in which Christians confess, and we will touch on both. We will discuss what it means to call Jesus your Lord, my takeaways from my very first Russian novel, the distinction between confessing sins and confessing sin, and a bit of a confession of my own regarding my gaming habits.
