Discover how God's goodness eclipses our suffering | with Amanda Jenkins | The Chosen

Amanda Jenkins shares about the 25th wedding anniversary she and Dallas are celebrating TODAY, JUNE 13, 2023! Happy anniversary to one of our favorite couples out there. Twenty-five years is a beautiful milestone and a testament to God's faithfulness through and in you! We love you and honor the Lord alongside you.

Amanda and Stephanie talk about the crucible of suffering as the unavoidable process which our gentle Lord uses to refine us and keep us closely tied to His side, for our protection and growth. She explains how recent intense pain has led her to write the Bible Study that will soon release alongside season 4 of the show. She explains how she has discovered how God's goodness truly can eclipse our suffering - not in a pollyanna way at all, but through the pain and the daily releasing to Him who is more than able to bear it. We can only endure suffering when we are deeply rooted in who God is. As Amanda shares some of the recent personal struggles and sufferings she and her family have endured, she reveals how they have grown in the Lord through it, and what she has learned about herself and, more essentially, about God.

In our previous episode with Amanda, she talked with Stephanie about discovering new dimensions of relationship with Jesus, and the importance of experiential knowledge and resting in Him. Amanda told us how her family is faring through seasons of The Chosen, with a focus on discipling older children. She and Dallas have four children, aged 22, 20, 18 and 16. How are they parenting through the show, and towards intimacy with Christ? Amanda shared the power of intentionality and the necessity of embracing mistakes to grow from them. She told Stephanie how she and Dallas have nurtured a family culture for open conversations and for making God the center of their daily lives. She shared what it looks like to surrender your children to God at every age.

    Weekend Rewind: Vanessa DeSilvio

    Weekend Rewind: Vanessa DeSilvio

This Kingdom Conversation is from June, 2021 when The Chosen, Season 2 was still being produced and was recorded live ahead of when episode 6 was released.

Quincy had the privilege of speaking with stage, film and commercial actor and voice over artist Vanessa DeSilvio. She brought to life the character Photina (the Samaritan woman at the well) in The Chosen. We learned that The Lord ordained the opportunity for Vanessa to play the role on the first-ever multi-season series based on the true stories of the gospels of Jesus Christ by moving her to Dallas, Texas years before creator/director Dallas Jenkins began work on the worldwide phenomenon. Vanessa shared with us her heart for combining her love of God and love to perform while she also pointed out what it was like to be on set and prepare to bring the first commissioned evangelist by the Messiah to life. She shared her love for her family, her respect for the production team and her awe of the response people have had to her portrayal in our 30-minute conversation.

The Chosen | with producers Chad Gundersen and Chris Juen

The Chosen | with producers Chad Gundersen and Chris Juen

Episode 123 – The Chosen is with us again today! This special episode is one of our Christmas 2021 Gospel Spice gifts to you 🙂

Chad Gundersen and Chris Juen, Producers for The Chosen and owners of Out of Order Studios, join Stephanie for an exclusive conversation to talk about all things The Chosen Christmas, and so much more! With great humility and passion, they both describe themselves as the ones who come alongside Dallas Jenkins to make his vision come true—and today, they tell us how they do that, every day! So, join us today to experience The Chosen from the inside!

We start the conversation with “The Messengers,” the special Christmas with the Chosen movie, and then take it further and deeper. You will hear unique insights into the making of the show, the behind-the-scenes of how relationships with actors, fans, and the team grow and evolve over time.

Chad tells us about the philosophy behind The Chosen – the desire to serve the fans and the audience by providing a Christ-centered experience. He vulnerably shares “One of my biggest prayers is, 'Lord don’t let me mess this up.'” How we at Gospel Spice can relate to this!

Chris shares how the entire team consistently yields to the Lord’s guidance and direction: “we have a very loose hold on our plans, and time after time after time, His plans are so much better… and almost unachievable.”

Stephanie loves both men’s passion for Christ, so representative of the spirit of The Chosen. They also go personal, and tell us about their wives’ roles, and how it is a family and team effort that requires much sacrifice, too. The Chosen is the real deal, and Gospel Spice fully loves all things The Chosen!

Amanda & Dallas Jenkins | The Chosen: taste & see the spice of the gospel!

Amanda & Dallas Jenkins | The Chosen: taste & see the spice of the gospel!

Episode 88 – Stephanie welcomes Amanda and Dallas Jenkins on the show today. Dallas is the creator, director and producer of the global TV phenomenon, The Chosen. And his wife Amanda is the real MVP behind it all 🙂

If you are NOT familiar with The Chosen, well, might we lovingly encourage you to drop everything and start watching right now? We encourage you to stick around and “come and see” or, as our Gospel Spice motto says, “taste and see”… Gospel Spice will add depth of flavor in your relationship with God just as The Chosen has. We alternate interviews like today’s, with Bible teachings that provide in-depth spiritual insights into the first century Jewish culture to help you fall in love with Jesus more. We have thousands of listeners in over 100 countries, and we hear it all the time: “Gospel Spice has helped me know and experience God more deeply.” So, come and see! There’s only one way to find out…

Stephanie is a huge fan, and has watched countless videos, so she was looking to chat about things she had not heard Dallas talk much about... So, on today’s interview, they talk about The Chosen series, of course, but also about the behind-the-scenes for the Jenkins family: what it took to get where they are, how it affected their marriage, parenting, and more.

For example, Dallas and Amanda tell us how they used their own personal experiences to depict the various personalities, struggles and successes of the main characters of The Chosen. Whether it be Eden, Simon-Peter or Nathanael, we can relate to them all because, fundamentally, we are like them—maybe not in the particulars of their struggles and failures, but in the general condition of sinfulness.

Dallas and Amanda are candidly honest about the struggles that have surrounded the last few years of their lives in marriage, parenting, and career. They point us to Jesus every time—and not in a cliché way. This conversation is refreshing, insightful, and inspiring.

Amanda shares with us her experience of how to support a significant other in our life when they are going through grief, whatever its source. Dallas shares about the process of parenting their children through The Chosen, several years in.

We talk about the importance of humor, and the role of controversy in The Chosen. How do Dallas and his team decide which scenes to include, and when to insert humor (haunted grandma room, anyone?).

Have you ever wondered how Dallas cooks his burgers? The wait is over, and the mystery is revealed today! We include the exclusive #DallasBurger recipe, not to mention a tasty tip or two on spicy smoothies. Also, if you’ve ever found yourself on a very cold morning filming outdoors, Dallas has just the spicy treat for you. There’s only one way to find out how Dallas literally spices his team’s lives with the gospel…

As we move to bitter yet salvific spices, we focus on the much-dreaded “Season 6” which will feature the crucifixion and death of Jesus. How are any of us, Chosen fans, supposed to survive it?? How is Dallas planning on having the fortitude to direct this season? And what about Season 7—the one that will take our breath away like no other? Stephanie asked, and Dallas answered—with poise and grace.

Finally, we talk about the creative writing process, season by season and episode by episode: how does the team find the stories that are already nestled within the pages of Scripture? And what does that have to do with God crushing Dallas, as a spice is crushed to extract its flavors?
