My Girl To Me (with Nic Palmeri)
Here’s one from the archive! In March of 2021, we sat down with Nic Palmeri for a special guest breakdown of My Girl To Me. Bassist for indie americana band The Bellegards, host of “The Blue Collar Bass Player” podcast, and 100%-certified Dawes fan, Nic offers us a fresh perspective on Dawes’s musicality. You won’t want to miss his stories about bass-making, awkward run-ins with exes, and cuckolding flautists.
Outro song: Old Fashioned Hearts (Bleed Like Cherries) by The Bellegards
Coming Back To A Man (with Michael Ballesteros)
Distinguished Dawesian, honorary DC sister, and most generous donor from our Save the Music live-stream fundraiser, Michael Ballesteros, joins us to break down a song of his choice! In our first-ever foray into Nothing is Wrong, we figure out what a Tuesday night looks like, what it means to be a man, and how to spell serenddjfiaspiety. Well, kind of.
When The Tequila Runs Out
Enjoy this director’s cut of our first ever live-streamed episode of Dawescast! We drank Tequila (until it ran out), champagne (also until it ran out), chatted with Dawesians in real time, and raised money for an amazing charity all while managing to stay (somewhat) coherent for this extra special fan-filled webisode.

Crack The Case
We should have done this sooner! In this episode, we break down ‘Crack The Case’ open and honestly—whatever that means… Seriously, what does that mean?! Also, we can spell.
Live at SummerStage in Central Park
This episode chronicles our experience of Dawes Live at SummerStage in Central Park. We met a great deal of Dawesians, distributed scads of stickers, and had our minds mushroomed by the new tune Dawes previewed for us under the Manhattan skyline. Join us for a jaunt through the epic setlist while we share fan stories and reminisce on our first Dawes concert with one another.
All My Failures - Live at the Hotel Cafe
Didn't you hear? Love's not for words! We heard, but we didn't listen. In this episode, we check into the Hotel Cafe to examine all things fierce and correct: an early Dawes masterpiece, a 2008 treasure, bonus tracks galore, and Applebees.
Olympian Dominique Dawes on How To Find Fulfillment
Dominique Dawes is a three-time Olympic gymnast who helped Team USA to its first ever gold medal at the Summer Games in Atlanta in 1996. She is the only American gymnast to medal in the team competition at three different Olympic Games and is the first African-American gymnast to win an individual medal. But the success came at a price. Now, Dominique is helping to change the culture inside the sport she loves with the opening of the Dominique Dawes Gymnastics & Ninja Academy. On this episode, we talk about finding your greater purpose and defining success in your own terms.
Things Happen
Welcome to the TH episode of the DC! In this installment, we catch up on some Dawes news (nudes?), search for relationship advice (again?), and tell our best fake ID stories (sorry, Mom). Bronze your baby's shoes and join us on a different and/or higher floor for our breakdown of this DGH (Dawes Greatest Hit).

Episode 13 - Paul Defiglia - In Daylight - Part Two
In this week's interview, I sit down with Paul Defiglia. Paul is currently the owner and operator of the Daylight Recording Studio located in Nashville. Tennessee. Previously, Paul was the bass player for Langhorne Slim and The War Eagles. Next, he temporarily stood in as the Avett Brothers' bass player before landing a full-time position on the keys, touring for several years. In 2020-2021, Paul played bass on and co-produced Langhorne Slim's, "Strawberry Mansion" and produced his first full-length solo album, "In Daylight." In part two of this two-part episode, we discuss Paul's journey from his time as a junior high trumpet player, his transition to bass, attending UNC's high school college conservatory, and eventually traveling to NYU to study bass in the Tisch School of the Arts. After college, Paul toured with Langhorne Slim for over four years before taking a break from music. Sometime after, Paul received a call to sub for Bob Crawford as the touring bass player for The Avett Brothers. This part-time job eventually leads to Paul's somewhat serendipitous metamorphosis into the Avett Brothers' full-time touring keys player, amazingly "learning" how to play the keys in front of sold-out shows across the country as he toured with The Avett Brothers. Please enjoy part two of my discussion with Paul DeFiglia.
Text Sets in Action: Stories from the Classroom
In the upcoming Text Sets in Action: Pathways through Content Area Literacy, Mary Ann Cappiello and Erika Thulin Dawes demonstrate how text sets can prompt serious thinking more effectively than any single text. Teachers who adopt this approach find that the texts’ various lenses enable students not only to meet curriculum standards but also to experience engagement and encourage inquiry across the disciplines.
In this podcast, Mary Ann and Erika share their background and the origin and definition of a text set, what educators will learn from their new book, and are joined by Lorraine Leddy, a classroom teacher from New York, for an in-depth discussion about her experience collaborating with them to introduce text sets in her third grade classroom and the benefits of a text sets approach in curriculum design.
