    102 - White Rabbit Project (2016) "Heists!"

This week we return to everyone's least favourite Mythbusters spinoff for an episode which sets out to tackle a series of heists, varying from impressive to embarrassing.

Join us as we do our own (much better) rankings, discuss how bad the hosts are this time & decide if any of the stories are actually heists at all.

Sam has also been watching the new eleventh season of Futurama, and gives us a rundown of his first impressions. Meanwhile Lewis has been watching Danny Boyle's Beatles tribute Yesterday.

We've also both managed to watch the entirety of Marvel's Secret Invasion and give our rundown of the series as a whole, trying desperately to find bright moments in an altogether dull experience.

    Unsolved SkeleTales

Happy New Year! Or rather, Happy Boo Year!

This weeks episode will lead you scratching your head in wonder and confusion as the ladies delve into the mysterious and unresolved world of unsolved mysteries.

Alissa gives an update on the Great Glitter Conspiracy and puts forth a theory as to who or what is using all that glitter. Here’s a hint: Vaginas.

You’ll then get lost in Britt’s tales of the polygon that everyone born before 1999 loves to fear, that right she’s talking about the Bermuda Triangle. Ships, planes and all you can eat cruise buffets - only the lucky ones survive its deadly geometry.

And speaking of luck, the Nebraska 15 are the topic of Alissa’s next yarn. In 1950 15 members of a church choir avoid certain death due to an unexplainable series of coincidences. Britt then wraps up the episode with a mystery involving serial killer John Wayne Gacy and a man who came back from the dead.

HILF 03: DB Cooper with Maile Flanagan

HILF 03: DB Cooper with Maile Flanagan

It was the day before Thanksgiving, 1971, when the last passenger boarded a short flight from Portland to Seattle. With no ID's required to fly at the time, he paid for his ticket with cash ($20) and signed in as 'Dan Cooper'. He  then sat alone in the back row drinking bourbon and smoking cigarettes.  Later that night, he would parachute out of that plane with $200,000 ransom and never be heard from again. His name was probably not 'Dan Cooper' - but it certainly wasn't 'DB Cooper', the alias almost everyone refers to him by today.  His name, however, is only the beginning of what we do not know about the person who pulled off the only unsolved skyjacking in American History.

Dawn's special guest, Maile Flanagan, assigned her this subject because - like many others - she had a vague memory of hearing the general story and was eager for all the F-able details. In this episode, Dawn delivers.  Not only a detailed play-by-play of what happened that fateful night, but a dive into some of the most interesting suspects to have emerged from the 50 year old investigation.

    PART 1

00:02:15 - The History of my guest, Maile Flanagan: Voice of Naruto and Terry Perry on Lab Rats (among many other credits.)

00:05:05 - Today's HILF: DB Cooper. Who is he and what happened?

00:13:01 - The evidence and what we know.

00:14:50 - The Mystery creates an immediate Legend.

00:22:00 - Introduction to Florence Schaffner & Tina Mucklow - the flight attendants who interacted with Cooper.

00:32:00 - Dawn's Favorite Suspects! The FBI identified over 1,000 "viable" suspects - here are 4 of them:

00:33:08 - Suspect #1 - Richard McCoy: A copycat who almost got away with it.

00:36:47 - Suspect #2 - Duane Weber: A deathbed confession and an angry widow.

    PART 2

00:42:55 - Suspect #3 - Walter Reca: His recorded confession to a best friend has a lot of people convinced.

00:47:12 - Suspect #4 - Barbara Dayton: Born 'Robert Dayton' she had a grudge and the expertise to pull it off.

00:52:22 - Some honorable mentions including Kenny Christiansen, LD Cooper and Robert Rackstraw.

00:58:58 - Ending credits, thank you's and announcement of next episode: President James K Polk with guest, Meryl Klemow

The Mystery of DB Cooper - Who Was He? #68

The Mystery of DB Cooper - Who Was He? #68

Who was D.B. Cooper?  This week on Solvable Mysteries we investigate the strange and famous case of D.B. Cooper, a hi-jacker who parachuted from a 727 in 1971 with $200,000 in ransom, never to be heard again.

D.B. Cooper has become one of the most famous mysteries of the 20th Century, because the crime was so daring and unusual, and has never been definitively solved.  D.B. hijacked a flight from Portland to Seattle, and then parachuted out over the Washtington state wilderness with a parachute and a massive backpack filled with money into the cold November night, thousands of feet in the air.  He was never seen again, and only a portion of the ransom was ever found, on a river back in Tina Bar, Washington.  It is a case that has been talked about for almost 50 years since, and much imitated in both fiction and reality. On this episode of the show we review all the facts of the case, including looking at new evidence about who D.B. Cooper was. We also review the best suspects for the case, including Robert Rackstraw, John List, Kenneth Christiansen, Richard Floyd McCoy Jr., Duane Weber, Walter R. Reca, William Gossett, and William J. Smith. We also present new evidence and theories around D.B. Cooper potentially being a CIA agent gone rogue, and the possibility the F.B.I. covered this up to prevent embarrassing the U.S. government.
