    #TheVoidProject 07: Community w/Judy Dolmatch

When we consider what becomes of the things we once owned, it might give us fresh perspective on our daily planetary impact, as well as what will be left behind when we’re gone.

    Summary

Teddy bears from childhood, life off the grid and organizing our “estate” before we die. In this wide-reaching conversation, Judy Dolmatch reflects on acquisition and disposition, staying connect with her late mother through a shared appreciation of art, and how living in a permaculture community deepened her appreciation for ecological systems. Her interest in cultural attitudes about death led to further reflections on  what becomes of possessions when we leave the planet.

It's Time to Talk About Death w/ Doulas Valoria Walker & Laura Lyster-Mensh

It seems most people feel obligated to cringe or shut down when the thought of the inevitable surfaces. But the simple fact exists that we will all leave this life at some point. Ali talks with Valoria Walker and Lauren Lyster-Mensh who are trained as end-of-life doulas, people who shepherd the dying and their loved ones through the often difficult, emotional, complicated process. They serve as non-medical advocates and holistic supporters of the person passing. Valoria and Laura talk about their experiences, the death positivity movement, death cafes and how we can all start planning for and normalizing conversations about death.

If you have questions or guest suggestions, Ali would love to hear from you. Call or text her at (323) 364-6356. Or email go-ask-ali-podcast-at-gmail.com. (No dashes)

Have you ever had a conversation with God? A real one, when God is actually communicating with you too? Our guest today John Roedel is an improv comedic, who has been called “The Unafraid Storyteller”, has "stumbled" into writing a few years ago as his life began to fall apart all around him.  During his dark night of the soul, John began to have fake conversations with "God" on Facebook to poke fun at his spiritual and personal crisis.

016 | Death Cafe: A Conversation About Dying | Lightin' Up With Kelly (@_babayaga_)

016 | Death Cafe: A Conversation About Dying | Lightin' Up With Kelly (@_babayaga_)

Welcome to Episode 16 of the Lightin’ Up Podcast! On today’s episode, I am joined by my friend Kelly, who is an end of life doula. We sat down to have a death cafe—a conversation about death & dying.

The goal of a death cafe is to simply just open up a dialogue about death. It isn’t just a grief group—a death cafe invites anyone who has something to say about death to come share. Some of us might have questions about our own death, we might have lost someone, been diagnosed with an illness, or anything else related to death, aging, & dying.

The fact of the matter is that death will come for all of us. We, & everyone we love, are all going to die—regardless of whether we face it or not. Kelly & I are of the opinion that death is something we all benefit from facing. One way to face death is to talk about it. So, that’s what we did—& we hope that you will join us in the conversation.

When we accept death as a part of life, we love more deeply. We show our affection, express our love, take the time, live in the present, remember patience, & treat others how we want to be treated.

Despite the fact that death will come for all of us, it is still obviously a very sensitive subject. So, please be conscious that this episode might bring up certain emotions if you choose to listen.

Though, the purpose of a death cafe & having this conversation is to show that death is not scary, but rather merely a part of life. It is our intention to shed LIGHT on this topic, so that it doesn’t feel so dark. We hope that by sharing this conversation with all of you, we can inspire some peace of mind around the topic of death.

This episode was recorded back in August, but due to the nature of the topic, I wanted to wait until a time that felt right to release it. Today, Dia de los Muertos felt like the perfect day to honor those have passed & talk about the potent topic of death.

Thank you for tuning in! This is a potent episode—& totally aligned with it being Scorpio season. Death, transformation, & alchemy, baby!  Grab your candle, sage, palo santo, sweet grass, & sacred smoke, & let's LIGHTIN' UP TOGETHER! 🕯As always, take what feels good & if it don't apply, LET IT FLY.Please note that this podcast is for entertainment purposes only, and nothing in this episode (or any other episode) should be taken as medical, legal, or other professional advice. #1 Eugenia Gajardo - Celebrating Life and Death

What do we know about death, if anything at all? And if we do not fully understand or even accept death, how can we possibly understand and accept life?

Today’s guest has a direct experience with this subject, because, truth be told, she is dying. Eugenia has been diagnosed with a critical illness and doctors say that she might have just a few months left to live.

Yes, I know, in our current society people do not talk about death that openly, yet this is exactly why Eugenia Gajardo is here with us today – she wants to inspire a conversation about death just the way we talk about life.

Get yourself a cup of tea, keep your mind open and get ready for a deep dive into the Truth.

When your number's up: It's time to talk about death

When your number's up: It's time to talk about death

The fifth episode in the More Than a Shop podcast series is now live and explores something we all, sadly, will inevitably face in our lives.

Elizabeth Alker discusses end of life – how to talk about it, how to plan for it – with Co-op Funeralcare’s Raegan Drew and Methodist minister, writer and filmmaker Kathleen Loughlin.

We also hear from a Death Café in Manchester. Death Cafés exist all over the world, creating a safe, informal space for people to talk about death and grief.

End of life and death are difficult topics to consider and talk about under normal circumstances. This episode was recorded in normal times and we wanted to stress that it does not reflect current funeral restrictions in place or other impacts being felt in society because of the pandemic.

Listen and subscribe to future episodes via morethanashop.coop. A transcript of the episode is available here: www.uk.coop/resources/more-than-a-shop

    Special thanks to:

More Than a Shop is a collaboration between Co‑operatives UK, The Co‑op, Co‑op News, The Co-operative College and The Co‑operative Heritage Trust.

The series is presented by Elizabeth Alker. It is produced by Geoff Bird on behalf of Sparklab Productions.

Please note: The More Than a Shop series was recorded before the outbreak of the Coronavirus pandemic.

Death | Discussing the 'Elephant in the Living Room' Beth O'Brien with Grace Gawler

Death | Discussing the 'Elephant in the Living Room' Beth O'Brien with Grace Gawler
There’s an elephant in the living room & no one mentions it; it is called death, the subject for today’s show. I work in a pro-life vocation with people with life challenging illness, but what happens when life is not prolonged & death is inevitable? How & where do you find the tools to help you navigate your way through the process? Following on from last week’s show, today I interview a lady who works with death every day; funeral director & celebrant, Beth O’Brien. Beth is a Certified Thanatologist; Certified in Thanatology: Death, Dying and Bereavement”, an international accreditation with the Association for Death Education and Counseling. She is also a qualified Facilitator of Death Café, an international movement designed to increase awareness of death with a view to helping people make the most of their (finite) lives. Today's discussion will be a valuable resource, bringing death to the discussion table. Visit gracegawlermedia.com & http://seasonsofgrief.com.au/about-beth/
