    91. Revival of Unionism. George Elliott Clarke. Toronto, Ontario, Canada. 08/23/22 Part 1 of 2.

Happy Labour Day!  In Part 1 of our Labour Day Special, George Elliott Clarke  and Dave transcend time and space and discuss how Mother Nature has forcefully reminded us we are part of creation.   George and Dave explore the challenges of consumer capitalism and how the pandemy has lead to greater inequality. People are responding through a revival of Unionism.  George shares how people are generally smarter than their governments and most people want what's best for everybody.  Part 1 ends with a passionate performance of George's poem, King Bee Blues.  Next week in Part 2 George plays Poem Title in the form of a Pandemy Question, inspired by Nardwuar the Human Serviette in Vancouver, British Columbia.

#21 Is Socialism still relevant? - Part Two (Malayalam)

#21 Is Socialism still relevant? - Part Two (Malayalam)

In Part one of this two part series,  we addressed why Capitalism failed to deliver on its promises. In this episode we are looking into the economics and morality contrasting Capitalism and Socialism. Does Socialism solve the inherent instability and unsustainability of capitalism? We look into how socialism can make the economic process more democratic and ethical.

We will also discuss a number of practical ways socialism can be implemented through the process of democratization of the workplaces and how worker Cooperatives (Workers self directed enterprises) can be a real game changer for achieving economic justice throughout the world.

#20 Is Socialism still relevant? - Part One (Malayalam)

Is socialism or communism still relevant today? Is it an outdated economic system? Has it’s past failures indicate socialism cannot be revived? These are some of the questions we are attempting to address in this episode.

In part one of this series, we want to analyze how capitalism is failing to deliver on its promises, the economic divide it created globally and its built-in inequality.  We touch on the history of both socialism and capitalism, it’s origins, failures and the effects in the global economy.

In part two, we will look into potential solutions to some of the problems capitalism has created,  and attempt to lay out the future and practicality of socialism through the democratization of our workplaces.

    Sing This at My Funeral

    Sing This at My Funeral

In this episode, presented in collaboration with the Australian Centre for Jewish Civilisation, Monash University, we investigate Sing This at My Funeral: A Memoir of Fathers and Sons, written by David Slucki and published in 2019. The title of the book references "Di Shvue" – the anthem of the Jewish Labor Bund. Dr. Slucki, the Loti Smorgon Associate Professor in Contemporary Jewish Life and Culture at Monash University, shares with us about his family’s history with the Bund and discusses the ways in which that history speaks to a variety of cultural and societal considerations in Australia and beyond.

Orwell’s Early Years (& the Victory Gin Martini)

Orwell’s Early Years (& the Victory Gin Martini)

George Orwell offered so much political insight, but his writings and views are widely misinterpreted by conservatives and leftists alike. We begin season 2 of Cocktails & Capitalism by telling the story of George Orwell’s evolution into an anti-imperialist, anti-capitalist democratic socialists who would risk his life to fight fascism.

The first chapter in this Orwell trilogy explores the author’s childhood and the time he spends serving in the British imperial police force in Burma. This experience teaches him to despise the oppressive violence of the British Empire. Leaving his position, he lives on the street until a publisher offers him a writing assignment to report on the misery of the working class.

With fascism on the rise in Italy, Germany, and Spain, Orwell volunteers to fight in the Spanish Civil War.

Tune in the next two weeks to hear the rest of Orwell’s story.

Socialism Series - What About when Socialists are Right?!

Socialism Series - What About when Socialists are Right?!

Surely, Socialists are wrong about everything, right?! Not always. How should we respond when Socialists make a good point, such as the need to care for the poor? Is there a Biblical model for this? Let's look at what God says and how we should be careful to listen and respond Biblically to arguments made for Socialism. You might just end up buying lunch for a socialist...and giving them the Gospel while you do it!

This is part 3 of a 3 part series taught at my local church's young adults Sunday School.

Socialism Series - Progressive Christians and Socialism

Socialism Series - Progressive Christians and Socialism

It can be shocking to hear that someone who claims to follow Christ also supports Socialism/Marxism. So, why do Progressive Christians support socialism and what are the basic tenets of Progressive Christianity? More than any political party, Progressive Christians may provide an even harder challenge to those who faithfully follow Jesus, due to their isolation and twisting of scripture. Find out the basics of this movement and stand firm in your faith.

This is part 2 of a 3 part series taught at my local church's young adults Sunday School.  For a more detailed analysis of Progressive Christianity, be sure to check out The Alisa Childers Podcast and specifically the  Progressive Christianity series created by Alisa Childers and Mike Winger.

Socialism Series - Is it Biblical?

Socialism Series - Is it Biblical?

Let's review the modern American Socialist movement through a Biblical lens. Socialism is much more than just economics and politics; it is an entire worldview whose very foundational assumptions must be scrutinized against scripture. This is part 1 of a 3 part series*, and while I certainly do not cover all possible points, it provides a basic understanding which I pray will be of value. Feel free to share with your youth group, young adults, or anyone else who may be helped by it.

Ricardo Vaz on Venezuela's Popular Resistance to U.S. Sanctions and Imperial Aggression

What's up to my mellifluous collectivists and marvelously barbarous Bolivarians!

I'm quite stoked this episode to introduce you all to esteemed writer, editor and political analyst at Venezuelanalysis.com, Ricardo Vaz. Ricardo's articles have appeared on Mint Press News, Monthly Review, Truthout, Counterpunch, and many other alternative media sites.

Ricardo joins us all the way from the northernmost range of the Andes to talk South American geopolitics, regional Populism and the Venezuelan grassroots resistance to American imperial aggression.

Venezuelanalysis.com is an independent pro-Bolivarian news outlet, and an invaluable source of popular, on-the-ground information about the current state of affairs in Venezuela. The site's main objective is "to provide a counter-narrative to mainstream media coverage of the Bolivarian Revolution, based on the perspective of leftist and grassroots movements in Venezuela. We aim to cover daily news about Venezuela, as well as to contextualize these developments with in-depth analysis and background information."

Solidarity Forever: Unite the Working Class!

What's up all you fabulous ruffians and trend-setting dandies!

This episode is the 2nd installment in the BNP's Current Events Kernel series. We explore the shady past of Attorney General William Barr in light of his recent threat of "sweeping crackdowns" and "significant escalation" against sanctuary cities for undocumented migrants living in the U.S.

We then take a deeper look at "interim" Venezuelan President Juan Guaido, whom the U.S. State Department and their Intelligence Agency federales just helped install via military coup, in order to replace democratically elected Socialist president Niklas Maduro. Maduro is the successor to Democratic Socialist president Hugo Chavez, and was in the midst of overseeing a continuation of the wildly successful democratic socialist policies Chavez had spearheaded, which have lifted millions of Venezuelans from grinding poverty to the middle class.

Finally, I discuss the current historical moment we find ourselves in the United States, as we bear witness in real time to the nascent rise of a legitimate Populist Movement and domestic class struggle here at home, and what it would mean for the millions of people negatively impacted by American Imperialism around the globe.

Where Do We Go From Here?

Where Do We Go From Here?

    Whats up beautiful people!

This episode is a quilted menagerie of brain tidbits and mind morsels.

We begin by journeying back to 1967 for an iconic speech by Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., Where Do We Go From Here: Chaos or Community. This is not the speech you heard in school. Dr. King speaks frankly and powerfully about class struggle and the need to radically restructure American society, including redistribution of wealth.

Following the speech we take a look at Lebanese-American writer and visual artist Khalil Gibran, and then go for a visit with the founder of Portland Peppermills, Jonathan Glowacki, for a conversation about framing one's own subconscious architecture for optimum manifestation efficiency. Check out Jonathan's hand-crafted wooden globes at: www.turning-time.com.

Finishing off the ep is a tidy lil ramble by yours truly regarding fractal electro-magnetic complexity.

The book I couldn't think of in my convo with Jonathan is: The Fifth Mountain by Paolo Coelho.

Enjoy the episode and please spread the word about the BNP!
