Bubba Ho-Tep / Stimson & Ben: Reminiscence Pt 1: Vengeance (Guest: Stimson Snead)

Bubba Ho-Tep / Stimson & Ben: Reminiscence Pt 1: Vengeance (Guest: Stimson Snead)

Award winning Director (Tim Travers & the Time Traveler's Paradox), writer, producer, actor, illustrator, PNW person, and ten-year veteran of the indie scene, Stimson Snead (Mr. Snead appears courtesy of Skyline Wine) prepares for inevitable bed sores as we tuck in for his choice "Bubba Ho-Tep" (2003 ((wide)) Dir. Don Coscarelli) Starring: Bruce Campbell, and Ossie Davis. You should be sold by the title of this movie alone, but if on top of that, the plot didn't sell you (I weep), we go DEEP into the annals of the past, present, and future, to uncover the secrets of this not often seen horror/comedy. We spend time examining the social impact and nuance of "The Minions," franchise. We take a look at the incredible Bruce Campbell oeuvre. And we make a case for "Dorff Lundgren" as Elvis, based on his look as the original Frank Castle for the screen alone.

Plot: When residents of their nursing home start dying of dubious causes, an aged Elvis and an African-American senior who claims to be President John F. Kennedy discover that the perpetrator is an Egyptian mummy with murderous intentions.

    69. Phantasm (1979)

    69. Phantasm (1979)

Phantasm. What is it? Fucked if we know! A young boy must fight against the forces of evil that include a killer flying metallic ball, warbling dwarves and a mysterious Tall Man. This is as straightforward of a plot description that you’re gonna get folks, because if you’re looking for horror that’s got balls… IT’S FOUND YOU. (And yes, that bit about balls is an actual tagline.)

HALLOWEEN SPOOKTACULAR DOUBLE BILL With Jim Knipfel

HALLOWEEN SPOOKTACULAR DOUBLE BILL With Jim Knipfel
It's October. So naturally, or should I say supernaturally? No, naturally's probably right. The point is that naturally, because it's October, I invited Jim Knipfel on the pod to talk scary movies. Jim has long been a champion of_ Halloween III: Season of the Witch, the misfit outcast entry in the Halloween film series that's about druids, killer masks and Irish robots instead of Michael Myers. And he's right to champion it. _Halloween III is a great, fun, weird movie despite its reputation. And Phantasm is weird and odd and terrific too. Jim blew my mind clean off a couple times with background info about these two cult masterpieces, particularly with respect to Angus Scrimm's non Phantasm career. Also, I blunder into a wild moment of amateurish ignorance by revealing I didn't know Michael Oldfield's "Tubular Bells" was the theme from The Exorcist. I only watched The Exorcist once and I forgot the soundtrack. "Tubular Bells" is a sample in a DJ Shadow song and I never connected it to The Exorcist. Let me know if I have to turn in my gun and badge. Jim's defense of Halloween III is here (https://www.denofgeek.com/movies/halloween-iii-season-of-the-witch-deserves-another-look/). Subscribe to Jim’s Patreon (https://www.patreon.com/jimknipfel/posts). it’s terrific.

    Sellout October: Phantasm (1979)

    Sellout October: Phantasm (1979)

Welcome to Sellout October, the month where we watch and discuss films that normal people have seen! On today's episode, we spend a lot of time in mausoleums, fight Jawas, look awesome in a black 'Cuda, and deliver ice cream right to your door with a smile and a jingle! Speaking of, for some reason this episode is the most musical one we've had yet, so enjoy our dulcet tones between discussions of "wow " tractor beams, our dreams of a Phantasm cartoon starring Flavor Flav, a Freddy Krueger/Tall Man buddy sitcom, and our unadulterated love of Reggie Bannister!

    The Beastmaster (1982)

A film about a shirtless man who can talk to animals and needs to save the kingdom. Kyle wishes this was more like Dr. Doolittle. Dave wishes everyone would just shutup. The Machine enjoys the swordplay.

Titans, Animal Allies & Yor (Clash of the Titans, The Beastmaster & Yor: The Hunter from the Future)

Time to cleanse your palate of all that horror! Grab your swords and sandals, call out to your animal allies and get ready to cut some choice dinosaur meats! First up, Perseus must find a way to become the Gorgon slayer, or the Princess Andromeda will be served up as fish food for the Kraken, in Clash of the Titans (1981)! A complete lunatic, and his trio of witches, are out to sacrifice the children of the local townspeople to their god. It's up to Dar, along with his furry and feathered pals, to put an end to the madness, in The Beastmaster (1982)! And then from there, a science fiction/fantasy epic, featuring one of the most incredible theme songs of all time! It can only be Yor, the Hunter from the Future (1983)! Beware the beast of the night, or you'll need a lot more hemp before you're through with this journey!
